I’m the one who requested it, and I can’t thank you enough. My dad passed away December 2015 from stage four cancer and so I asked this around his birthday. He got to name me after my mom named my sister. He was prepared to have a boy so when they found out it was a girl, we was scrambling. He heard on the radio one day an interview with Greg Allman and how he decided to name the song “Melissa”. After hearing his story my dad knew that would be my name. And my mom loved it as that was her childhood best friend’s name. So as much as I miss my dad, I know I’ll always have him because of my name. And hearing people love the song, especially for the first time makes me emotional because that raw feeling is what I have every time. And I just find that amazing ☺️

Duane, his brother and guitarist died in "71" on his Harley by a peach truck. Hence the album "Eat A Peach." Greg is the Blonde guy singing. Dickie betts is one of the great guitar players. In their day, they played the best Blues you could find, Listen to the live album "Live at the Fillmore." It's iconic.

I though this as well. Duane hit a regular flatbed truck, not a peach or watermelon truck. It references something Duane said in an interview just before his death. "Whenever I'm in Georgia I eat a peach for peace."

The founder of the Allman Brothers Band was Duane Allman an accomplished studio musician playing on tracks by varied Artists from wilson pickett to Boz Scaggs, arytha Franklin, Herbie Mann. Considered to be a virtuoso in many guitar styles, he replaced Eric Clapton in Delaney, Bonnie and Friends, and later was asked by Clapton to play on the double album by Derek and the Dominos named "Layla and other assorted love songs" In fact, Duane created the opening riff on the title song "Layla" and played on 10 of the 14 songs on the double album. Eric asked Duane to join Derek & the Dominos, however he declined as he had already formed the Allman Bros Band in Jacksonville, FL. The original band included Duane (lead and slide guitar) Brother Gregg (vocals, organ, piano and guitar) Dickey Betts (Lead guitar & vocals), Berry Oakley (Bass guitar & vocals) Butch Trucks & Jai Johnny Johanson, AKA Jaimoe (as the two drummers & percussionists) The Allman Brothers were initially signed to Capricorn Records in Macon Georgia. They lived in a very large home near Mercer College named "The Big House" which is a very popular museum paying tribute to the band. I highly recommend googling The Big House Museum for a virtual tour. They came to gain international recognition after the release of the double album entitlied " The Allman Brothers Live at the Fillmore East" in 1971. Many ctitics acknowledge this work to be "Best Live Recording" in the rock/blues genre. Their music was heavily influenced by taj mahal, early american blues players and jazz greats such as miles davis, John Coltrane among others. Tragically the band suffered many losses throughout the years. Less than 6 months after the release of the live album, The Band Founder, Duane Allman died in a motor accident in Macon with Bassist Berry also dying in a motorcyle accident about a year later. Gregg Allman had a severe addiction problem which he was able to overcome in late 1990's, received a liver transplant in the early 2000's and died in 2016 from liver cancer. Shortly thereafter, Butch Trucks killed himself due to owing the IRS $800,000. In the late 1990's Dickey Betts was asked by the band to go into Rehabilitation for Alcholism which resulted in legal dispute and Betts leaving for good only to die of COPD and Cancer in late April 2024. With Jaimoe being the only surviving original member. The Allman Brothers music is still being kept alive by children of the original band memberd such as Duane Betts, Berry Oakley, Jr and Devon Sllmam as well as Derek Trucks, nephew of Drummer Butch Trucks. Finally, on March 20th 2020 the more recent members of the Allman Brothers recorded a Sold Out concert (sold out in 2 hours at Madison Square Garden under the title"The Brothers". It is available as both a DVD or CD. The band included members of the most recent ABB musicians and prior members: Jaimoe -drums, Marc Quinones, Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes, Chuck Leavell (former ABB pianist, now musical director and piano player for "The Rolling Stones"), Oteil Burbridge, Duane Trucks (Brother of Derek & drummer for "Wide Spread Panic"), Reese Wynans from "Stevie Ray Vaughn Band" Pete C.

The lead guitarist is Dickey Betts, who cofounded the band with Duane and Gregg Allman (Gregg is singing here). They spanned a range of stuff from blues to southern rock, and were the best jam band of their era. If you want another by them, I suggest this instrumental a few other people recommended: "Jessica". You can do a 6 min version, featuring Betts kzbin.info/www/bejne/hIOoZHWsZsyir6s or, if you want to try a long version, this is 13 min. with a much later lineup including Derek Trucks on lead guitar: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYiVZp-Go9RmfKc Both are great.

The Allman Brothers Band were a Southern Rock and Blues influenced band who did some acoustic and even has some Jazz influence. They had ballads and rockers. You've probably heard Ramblin' Man which actually is a little bit on the country side. Suggested songs from me would Whipping Post, One Way Out, Statesboro Blues but there are so many great ones since they made music for about four decardes. Oh, my friend, you have some work to do! And it will be so much fun! I'm an old guy, and we relate to "albums", and that's really the only way to find out ALL about a band. The albums The Allman Brothers Band, Idlewild South, Live at Fillmore East (Greatest live album of all time, according to many!), and Eat a Peach all feature Duane and the rest of the original lineup. It gets complicated after that......Brothers and Sisters comes next in summer 73 with the addition of Chuck Leavell and Lamar Williams. I would suggest: Whipping Post from Fillmore East, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed from Fillmore (instrumental), Midnight Rider from Idlewild, One Way Out, Ain't Wasting Time No More, and Blue Sky from Eat a Peach, and Jessica from Brothers and Sisters. That is indeed Gregg singing Melissa, with Dickey Betts and Warren Haynes playing guitars. Warren and Derek Trucks were the guitar players in the last version of the band, and you owe it to yourself to check out some of the excellent live stuff on You Tube with that band. Derek is a monster slide player, as well as conventional, as is Warren. Very Deep Rabbit hole indeed! See you down there! I've been in it since 69!

Eat a Peach was the 1st album I ever purchased. And it was a double album. I don't even think people today know what a double album means anymore. lol. They always kept it simple musicianship wise. If you were a guitarist you were figuring out there songs easily because you didn't have to wear out the needle on your record player. lol. Vocals were pure. None of this autotune pitch perfect singers who almost all sound the sound from today's so called artist. Just a great band with many hits back then. I have a question about a video you must have uploaded which I got notified from by KZbin, but it got deleted. It was a song called "Sucker" by Courtney Hadwin from her Vevo channel I assume. I've been waiting for a reaction by you from her for months since I last requested it. Many have reacted to her channel's videos and had no problems from copyrights. But it does occasional happen to reactors. Hopefully you liked it as much as anyone else who watches any video from her. My suggestion is to instead react to this video of her audition on AGT.
