Hello Ang thank you for reacting to this masterpiece. As someone said before they competed against each other in Sanremo 2001 with these songs, "Luce" by Elisa and "Di sole e d'azzurro" by Giorgia, Elisa won 1st place and Giorgia 2nd place. This was kind of a tribute and a gift to their long time fans, they are good friends in real life and Elisa went to support Giorgia I think also because Elisa never stopped singing while Giorgia did stop for a while, she said in an interview that she even stopped doing the vocal exercises for a long time and resumed recently. It shows how better Georgia sang with the help and support by a friend, I think she was a bit anxious to come back on the spotlight after a long time but I love that she did. I saw her live when I was 10-11 (30 now) and I remember being so in awe, she was my musical awakening

not so many as should, know that this two songs went very close to become the first and only ex aequo first place of Sanremo to date. A couple judges screwed it up for Giorgia and then passed it as letting the newbie(Elisa) win; biggest revenge is instead of becoming rivals they became super tight and are still very much super tight more than 20 years on. What you see on stage happens off stage as well, they're that close and always there for each other. Best two singers we have in Italy by far. I don't think a lot of people realize how lucky we're that these two ladies are our connationals to call, that we've been listening to them for more than 20 years(length of their careers is a testament to their greatness and im 26 so i dont remember a day without them in my life)and how extremely lucky we're that in her darkest hour Giorgia chose life.

Hello Mad... the Sanremo Festival was born 73 years ago as an Italian SONG festival. In the early years, a singer sang more than one song. Always unpublished. Over the years there have been evolutions such as the pairing of Italian singers with famous foreign singers who sang in Italian, etc. (the historiography of Sanremo is very interesting). However, it has always remained like the Italian song festival (unreleased songs sung and played live). That of Giorgia and Elisa is a duet with already famous songs. On the fourth evening of the Festival, for some years now, the singers with their respective unpublished songs in the competition, accompany themselves with other artists and sing already famous songs to make the event more beautiful and interesting. The competition should therefore only be between the songs... but then we know how everything can be seen in other ways.Ciao

Più che aveva, ha ancora. Da Mara Venier a Domenica In speciale Sanremo ha accennato uno dei suoi maggiori successi e la voce c'è ancora. Solo che lei stessa ha detto che le piace sperimentare e cambiare. Ed è un peccato che torni poco a quel tipo di repertorio. A me piacciono i cantanti che sperimentano, però poi ci sono stili in cui splendono di più. E giorgia brilla quando apre le sue corde vocali e canta ballad. Poi sai, credo che molto centri anche il ricordo di Alex Baroni, che Giorgia non ha mai dimenticato, poiché quei range musicali li usava molto nel periodo in cui stava con lui. (E lo stesso Baroni aveva canzoni potenti come "Cambiare" come Giorgia.)

I actually think Giorgia is the best voice as well as Elisa is the best artist. Elisa is a soprano voice, takes higher notes then Giorgia. She is an ecletic artist, a songwriter and musician too. Please listen three Elisa's cover, Wuthering Heights of Kate Bush playing piano, Whole Lotta Love of Led Zeppelin (she sounds like Janis Joplin) and the Halleluja of Cohen.

Luce was not written by Zucchero: as Elisa herself confermed, the song was composed by her, originally, music and lyrics (but in english). Zucchero only helped to traspose the lyrics in italian (actually, only the ritornello).

Actually, the song was written by Elisa in English (title: "Come speak to me") in 2000, but was rearranged and translated in Italian by her with the help of Zucchero for Sanremo 2001. I read that the only verse that was wholly invented by Zucchero is "Siamo nella stessa lacrima".
