Super Junior rocking every genre in their way! So this was during the time when SMentertainment combined rock/metal with pop/rap. It was darn awesome! Things change rapidly though so the next phase was the more electronic dance style that came with Sorry Sorry. I think at their core though, SJ has a jazz base with R&B mixed in with dance/pop. They do enjoy throwing in some rock elements though here and there through their over...I think it’s over 800 songs now? Heechul loves rock though...his “solo” stuff with guitarist Jungmo is more rock based. It’s really hard sometimes to pin an actual genre on Super Junior. They’ve done it all. They have also mixed up genres of their songs during their Super Show concerts. If you haven’t done so, please check out Super Junior “House Party”! It’s different as well. Thank you so much for reaction to SJ as always! 💙

This isn't their debuted song. Don't Don was the lead single on their 2nd album of the same name in 2006. Their debuted song is called Twins (knockout) in 2005. It wasn't well received by the public. But it was a great song and video. You should check it out.

Well rock isn't korean's cup of tea. If they keep going with this kind of style i bet they will never as big as now. I stan them for more than 13 years and the song that got me into them was "U". Back then they don't really recognized by korean till they released "Sorry-Sorry" and getting hype not only in korea but all around the world. If they don't change their style that time i'm not sure k-pop industry are gonna be like now cuz "Sorry-Sorry", "Bonamana", "Mr. Simple" by Super Junior gave a huge impact for k-pop industry. Not forget to mention Bigbang aswell

I suggest you listen to their first ever track. Twins Knock Out! :) and also Bonamana rock version. This style is SMP or SM Performance. They're debut Twins sounds like this. The growling is Heechul. He has that rock ballad style voice that suits this style. The violin player is Henry part of super junior M - they're the Chinese sub unit of super junior. Ps: Twins was released November 2005 ( debuted with 12 members) the main vocal and maknae Kyuhyun was added to super junior 2006 he is in the Dont Don video. Twins is the reason I became an ELF back 2005 I love the rock mixed with kpop its not so often you see that before.

I heart you for reacting to my favourite song ever, not just in Super Junior EVER! This was released in 2007 but re-uploaded to youtube in 2009. It remains the only mv with 14 of 15 possible members (only Chinese member Zhoumi was missing and the guy on violin, Henry Lau, also a Chinese member, would later become a member of Super Junior M sub-unit; this mv was his debut). Lee Soo Man (the founder of SM Entertainment) loves rock music and it's his influence that had them start out with rock music (Twins, U and Don't Don). As Lee Soo Man stepped back and another CEO took over Super Junior became the "let's try this untried concept" group, lol. They nail it every time, too! A few b-sides that still have rock influence that you might also enjoy: Rock This House, Man In Love, and Now - the first two have live performance videos from Super Show but as far as I know they've never performed Now outside of the studio. Another SM group that you might like is early 4 member TRAX (Typhoon of the Rose Attack on Xmas=Jay Kim, No Minwoo, Jungwoo and Kim Jungmo). Two member version of TRAX after Rose and Attack left, was good, too but not as rock sounding. mv rec's Paradox and Scorpio - TRAX is now disbanded but you can still enjoy the music they made! Kim Jungmo also had a band with SJ Kim Heechul called M&D (Midnight & Dawn) - Close UR Mouth is their debut and their most rock sounding release. Kim Jungmo was also the featured guitarist in J-Min's OST hit Stand Up from the K-Drama To The Beautiful You I recommend watching the band version of the mv; at the time it heavily reminded me of Roxette's sound (RIP Marie). ~FM :)

Did not expect you'd react to Don't don.. But, hey..no complaints from me LoL.. Thank you for giving Don't Don a listen. Kpop is korean pop and the "match" to kpop are idols, trainees that are trained for several years for dancing, singing, acting. Where as K-rock, Korean rock, is a genre that only small group of korean people like. Suju struggled during their debut song, and was not well received despite they have a huge fandom since the beginning. If idols were to continue this genre they would not be as big as they are now. But still, there are Korean bands that are considered as idols too, that brought this type of music, they are FT Islands, & Trax (already disbanded though), they are considered from the 2gen . One of the greatest korean rock group is called Boohwal. You should check these groups out.

Hmm thinking SM was trying out rock because they were testing the waters.. TVXQ's Rising Sun (which came out I think few years before this SuJu song ) was like rap rock fusion and did pretty well (it was in Fast & Furious 4) so I think SM wanted Super Junior to try alternative rock to see if it'd be a hit but from what I've seen it seems only pop rock like CNBlue, FTIsland, Day6 do decent in korea... (rock definitely does better in Japan compared to Korea) But SM jumped on edm once everyone was hopping onto autotune trend back then, so not surprised rock was pushed aside.

Koreans don't really like rock music. That's why they don't really do that kind of music any more. Their debut song Twins (Knockout) is a similar style. @FM mentioned M&D - Heechul and Jungmo also have a song called No Dap which I think you would really like, although it doesn't have a video and there's a live performance of them on a tv show called Immortal Songs singing a song called Spring Days Of My Life which is pretty cool.

Kpop are not really a genres. They're basicly just korean pop music. The "stereotype kpop" is an idol side of kpop. Idols are not really taken seriously by korean, but are popular outside korea. why they change concept? i don't really know alot about super junior but idols ussually are treated more like market money maker. Lot of song they perform may not really their preferred style. Dreamcatcher was a "cute group" called minx before(they hate it especially siyeon) idols are more than what you think tho. Shame that most of their creativity freedom and talents are blocked by company. Try reacting more to Idols who have creative freedom : Sunmi: "tail" G-idle: "oh my god" Nature: "girls(uncensored version)" Purple kiss: "ponzona" Dreamcatcher: "red sun"
@btsarmy-xs6cx3 жыл бұрын
True. What's the point of those really crazy intense training when they're not going to let those talents and skill shine. When idols have a chance to do their own things. They really go off lol.
@mushroomexpress30493 жыл бұрын
@@btsarmy-xs6cx the thing is the industry seek convention. They probably would cut off a group that are doing diffrent thing unless they're from big 3 company. And those big company probably see the idols as marketing objects. The only unconventional successful group that still survive despite beeing from small company(that i know) are probably dreamcatcher. They can almost do everything they want (tatoo, no diet rules, roasting haters, creative freedom) the reason dc survived other than talents are probably because the company genuinely want to help dc. Other company probably would just throw the girls when they failed in minx.
@btsarmy-xs6cx3 жыл бұрын
@@mushroomexpress3049 yeaa. The industry are really frustrating and problematic tbh. Bts are from a really small company. I admit that even bts do lot of "convention" stuff to survived. Extreme diet, overworked, fanservice that make them uncomfortable etc. There's even a period where they said they almost disbanded.

@@mushroomexpress3049 for super junior (they have said it themselves) basing their music on their solo style is boring and monotonous, super junior has been characterized as a group that never repeats the same concept, each comeback is different, many musicians have listened to super junior albums and are surprised that there is a variety of musical genres in the same album, trot, r & b, ballad, trap, Latin music, rock, rap, dance, etc. super junior was the first group to make Korean music for Latin America and Mexico, despite having great success with the song " lo siento" and the collaboration with a Mexican group, their next comeback was the opposite, a song with happy rhythms in where they played between them called "super clap" the next was hip-hop, currently super junior has its own sub agency and record label called "label sj" the members themselves decide the concept, songs, costumes and promotions, and In the group there is a director who directs the camera angles and the scenography, his most recent comeback is a song that seeks to raise spirits in the midst of this pandemic, because it is such a versatile group and with a great capacity to reinvent itself. They have maintained as a group for 17 years and continue, each one is more than 30 years old today.
