Is there any clear resin to seal over a flat pebble and grout shower floor? Seems like this gets so stained from scum and hard water would love to seal it with a smoother finish.

I'm trying to put epoxy to cover the tiles in my foyer and bathrooms. How or what material did you use to cover the grout lines to get an even prep surface before you applied your primer? Would it work for porcelain tiles? Let me know.
@Garage_Kings8 жыл бұрын
+Kyle Gillard Prep is King! Spray 409 or a degreaser over the tiles. Soak it. Let it sit for 20 minutes. Wipe and clean up. If your grout lines are deep make a slurry to fill them. Epoxy and sand ( play sand will work). Use about about 1 40lb bag per 3 gallons of 100% solids epoxy ( it's a bit of a feel thing). Fill the line and make it level with the tile and let it cure. Now the the floor is level you can epoxy over the whole floor. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions

What did you use to bond to tile? Ceramic tiles? Thought nothing could stick to ceramic?

was that final coat added with the black second coat dry or still wet?
@Garage_Kings8 жыл бұрын
Still wet Michael! It lets the colours flow and marble really nicely.
@Garage_Kings8 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, The black was still wet. Thats called a slip coat. When you put a colour down first then a second over top it allows the colours to blend more. Some times we will ribbon out two colours at the same time then blend other times we will put a slip coat first then apply the second colour right away

what black base do you use for the metallics? is it just epoxy with a black pigment or special black primer that's different from the rest of the colors and materials?????????
@Garage_Kings8 жыл бұрын
it is called an epoxy paste paste. Their are 3 main types of colours for epoxy. Paste, mica's, and liquid mica's, and now a 4th category has emerged glitters

You mention a concrete polymer but in comments suggest a sand epoxy slurry, which would you recomend? Would self leveling concrete work tonfill grout lines?
@Garage_Kings7 жыл бұрын
+Sean Crowne sand epoxy slurries are the strongest. It's more expensive to do but it's worth doing it that way. Self levelling concrete is a lot weaker than a slurry.

can I do this over my kitchen tile without messing anything up? is that concrete over lay heavy we have a crawl space?
@Garage_Kings8 жыл бұрын
+Shawna Swayne No matter what you always have a risk when going over tile. Scratch it, clean it ( soak with spray 9 or fantastic. Let it sit for 15 minutes before wiping up) then you can do a thin slurry ( sand & epoxy) as your first layer then do normal epoxy coatings after your base cures

can you go over a garage floor that has already been sealed with out grinding it or sanding?
@Garage_Kings7 жыл бұрын

Doing this to my business floors but question Can I do this on top of concrete floors? How long does it usually take? Is it just different color epoxy mixed with a top coat? What chemicals can’t be used to clean these floors? And can me and my grandfather do this?
@Garage_Kings7 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for your comment! It is possible to do, but you definitely want to make sure you are prepared with proper concrete grinding equipment and good products. We always recommend working with a professional - we love teaching and making it look easy, but it’s not something you want to do twice! Visit garagekings.com and see if we have someone in your area that can help.

Do I take up my tile first?
@dadangsutarman7097 жыл бұрын
how thick is the base and top coat?
@Garage_Kings7 жыл бұрын
+Dadang Sutarman normally we put the base (prime coat) at 200 sq ft per gallon. Thin to win is the key with your first coat the thinner the better. The main coat we usually put it on at 50 square feet per gallon. This floor, and any tile floor usually need 3-4 coats and use a swing machine in between coats to flatten it out.

what would happen if you roll it after you trowl it?
@Garage_Kings8 жыл бұрын
Hi Tyler, we typically do metallic epoxy with a very high build so the colours flow nicely. Rolling afterwards will risk trapping air in the epoxy (resulting in bubbles as it cures) or at the very least it will smear or muddle the natural marbled design. Thanks for the question!
@jerryjunoirmint8 жыл бұрын

@Garage_Kings8 жыл бұрын
+jerryjunoirmint Glad you like it! You can track us down through GarageKings.ca - let us know where you are and set us up with your info and we will take good care of you!
@Garage_Kings8 жыл бұрын
Hi Tyler! Yes you can roll it after you trowl it. That is just a personal preference. If you roll it you will get the thickness more consistent but you also risk putting more air into the epoxy which could leave more surface imperfections. Both ways work it just depends on the look you are going for.

How did those guys manage to walk around without leaving footprints on the wet surface?
@Garage_Kings7 жыл бұрын
+HELEN JONES Hi Helen. We use epoxy/spiked shoes. They make tiny little marks but the epoxy self levels and the marks disappear before it hardens.
@Garage_Kings7 жыл бұрын
+HELEN JONES we use speciality epoxy tools to do this type of work. That means Spiked shoes are worn so we can walk on the wet surface. Epoxy self levels, so the tiny pinpricks created by the spikes fill in instantly.

Can we just put the epoxy straight on the primer? I dont care about the tile grooves. What is the easiest way to Prime the floor without a million steps and again I don't care about the appearance of the grooves I'm actually doing my kitchen countertops that are covered with ceramic tile? Again I don't care about grout joints, unless there is a quality or endurance issue connected to the thorough prepping? Bumps, grooves, and joints add character, or at least I'm able to justify my laziness by using that as an excuse to NOT do SO MANY steps. Also we own a garage door company and are considering using your product to redo people's garage floors is that something you may be able to talk to us about buying that much quantity to cover that large of a surface at a reasonable rate? Here's our business website www.academyoverheaddoor.com
@mathewmacias67726 жыл бұрын
If you don't smooth out the joints the metallic pigment will flow into them and you will have a metallic grid pattern. These are self leveling products so the will flow to the lowest point.

There are a lot of pertinent questions- it's too bad you don't answer any of them - people watch your video, are interested and spend time to ask a question and it's a complete waste of time. Plus you ask at least twice for questions- why. There are lots of similar companies out there who actually respond to potential customers- I'll spend my time and effort on them. Too bad I'm researching for several hundred thousand sf in 7 states. You never know what you lose by being non-proactive.

Garage Kings do you let the floor dry in between the first base coat? And what do you mean by slip coat
@Garage_Kings7 жыл бұрын
+Dr. Obvious Real - the prime coat goes down and dries. Then depending on the results we want to achieve, we often use a super thin 'slip coat' and do a higher build marbled coat over top while still wet. This creates a much more natural looking marbled effect. Make sense?

Your finish is only as stable as your base. If it's a DIY project, go for it. If it's a paying customer remove the dang flooring and bond to the subfloor.

+Yes Brandon Landis we couldn't agree more! Every situation is a bit different. Getting to bare concrete is always best and we prefer to do repair work with slurries not concrete to fill voids.

+Brandon Landis Couldn't agree more! Every situation is a little different but getting down to concrete should always be the goal. With patch work we always use slurries ( not concrete to fill voids).
@Garage_Kings8 жыл бұрын
+Brandon Landis - Thanks for the comment! This client was familiar with the building and was concerned that removal would create more problems, surprises, and wanted to work within a set budget. All things being equal, we would always prefer to work with good concrete. That said, if the tiles are solid and you can achieve a good bond there, it was the right answer for the client. As expected, there have been no issues with this floor since then.
@brandonation858 жыл бұрын
That's good. I know every situation is different. It's just good that people don't think this is optimum. Especially if there is a vapor issue.
