I think metallics is a subject you can soon get lost in, but this really helps to simplify things down to the perfect practical level. Great video 👍

Thanks again Nigel for this video very useful and informative keep it up... Stop worrying about your nails bud. You've given me inspiration to have a go at metal finish I've got a mk24 spit that I was going to go the easy way and do it in the camo scheme but after seeing what can be done I'm going to be brave and have a crack at the metal scheme.

Isn't that Mk24 painted silver Mike?? I hear LP11 is good for the colour, as mentioned in the comments to this video.

Very very informative video Nige. I was just looking at metalic paints yesterday and went for LP's instead of the MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE other metalics. This video just proved what can be achieved with the LP's at a much lower cost for in my opinion a much better wearing effect... Good on ya mate👍🍻👍🍻
@NigelsModellingBench3 жыл бұрын
Glad I could help. TBH, I find all these new metallics a bit of a faff other than the Mr Color and Tamiya LP. They all have issues with masking, getting cold in Transit, washes.. the list goes on...

@@NigelsModellingBench yeah, I've heard the good side of them, but in my opinion the bad out weighs the good I'm afraid Nige, besides, I build for the enjoyment not for competition shows🍻👍

I tend to use the paints I can get a hold of. Fortunately our local model shop has Tamiya LP and acrylic paints. If their range of colours were better I wouldn't use anything else.
@Andy.Gledhill.Models.3 жыл бұрын
Not tried the LP paints myself. I must get some. I have a few of the Ammo Mig Metal colours. I find them OK. I like the Jet Exhaust Burnt Iron one they do. That colour is good as a base coat on 1/35 metal type tank tracks. As well as on Jet Exhausts on Aircraft. Also putting down a heavily thinned coat of the Tamiya Clear Colours such as Clear Blue on top of a base metal colour can give good effects. You can get a good Blue sheen on something like the exhaust area of a Phantom for instance.

LP1 on the Tamiya gloss black, Nige. Have to say the Alclad metallics have been a favourite since the nineties - gorgeous paint but it ain’t half whiffy.
@NigelsModellingBench3 жыл бұрын
Agreed Phil, Alclad are awesome.. probably a little less whiffy than Tamiya LP's though?

@@NigelsModellingBench not yet tried LP’s as I can’t ventilate properly - but I’m due to move and my new place will have proper access to a window. My booth will be set up like yours is currently.

Nigel do you have to use a gloss black paint underneath these finishes like alclads
@NigelsModellingBench4 ай бұрын
In a word, yes, if you want a glossy metallic finish.

Some of the Gunze MC paints are more sprayable than others. Dark Iron is particularly bad in the airbrush. What I do is pull the needle back just a hair and lock it in place, then pour in the well-stirred Dark Iron. Then blast away. Of course the paint is blown through in seconds, but no tip dry. Cleaning is a pain…

You know, Nigel, I am ashamed to say, I had no idear that one has to rinse the sprues in warm soapy water to rid it of the release goo. I always wondered why the paint never went on good. My buddy told me 5 years ago to rinse the dang things before painting. Now I know..

For brush painting Sarah, i would go with the Mr Hobby Metallics. They are awesome, as are the Humbrol enamel metal colours. You will need lacquer thinners for Tamiya and Mr hobby Lacquers.

Nigel quick question how often should I totally clean my airbrush
@NigelsModellingBench3 жыл бұрын
How long is a piece of string..... if you are using metallics, a lot!! If you always use one type of paint. ie, Tamiya and Mr Color, or Vallejo and AK, once a month should be enough if you do a "normal" amount of painting. I recommend Mr Hobby Rapid thinners for cleaning the airbrush.

@@NigelsModellingBench If you take a brush and dip it in unshaken bottle of dark iron,let it evaporate for a few seconds before using it.Its a deep black mettallic unlike anything else ive seen.The 10 sec cement is vey 'sticky',has another ingredient.Used it on \32 toryu,sticks fast with plenty of adjustment time.Only a bit thicker than Tamiya ET but doesnt evaporate as fast.Love the Dragon \32 review,i built \48.Almost same parts in both kits,enjoyed build,bit like GWH.Happy xmas,or 'Stug'mas.Sorry been quiet,had op got clear results on 18th.I'm going to have to paint all those panthers now,and enjoy it.
