The thing I love about Metallica covers is that they somehow are ALWAYS able to make the song sound undeniably Metallica-like... and yet still keep the essence and feel of the original track with enormous respect to its author!
@gregbillings7 ай бұрын
I hadn't heard the original before and checked it out on spotify - the drumming, the guitar work, enough of the original tempos and feel and then the 'tallica piece added in. With James divorce in the rearview, the lyrics seemed right at home for Pappa Hetfield.

Didn’t realize how well suited this song was to be adapted by them, and it’s been one of my favourites since forever. The dual harmonized guitar part in the intro definitely had the quintessential, old-school Metallica vibe à la Master of Puppets when James walked up beside Kirk to play it. They also used the source material as an excuse to do things you normally would not hear from them either, one example being the high note vocal harmonies with the “Oooh’s” towards the end. Don’t think I’ve ever heard James sing that high before in my entire life, lol! Amazing cover all around though. I think they fuckin’ killed it!🤘🏻
@trulyunoriginal7 ай бұрын
I'm pleased for James that he got to play in front of one of his idols. I think some people forget that Metallica didn't grow up listening to thrash metal. They're hard rockers who helped create a genre, perfected it, outgrew it, and have been doing whatever the hell they like ever since, because they can.

Yes indeed! Thats why Metallica is the most adult-wise metal band among the other. Their influence is so wide, zz top, iggy pop, lynyrd skynyrd, thin lizzy, budgie, and many more.
@olm88296 ай бұрын
@@IswanjanaHariAdiI agree with you on that fully. I used to be one of so called “metal purists” in my teens and used to shit mercilessly on everything Metallica did after AJFA just because “it’s not metal enough” and because everyone did it. Now, ca. ten years later, Metallica is one of the few metal bands I still come back to, and I really enjoyed “Load”, “Reload” and three latest albums. I like their music, but I like their lyrics even more, in fact, James is one of my favourite lyricists in any genre. He has some sloppy lyrics here and there, but the majority of them are great and work great with the music. They are one of the few metal bands that cover themes like mental health and other personal issues, and do it really well, and I really appreciate them for it.

Metallica took on the chore and DID it live and in front of Elton and Bernie. Perfect arrangement that both takes the song in different directions as well as paying homage to the original. Just what a great cover should do. Much as Brandi Carlisle has done with another Elton/Bernie masterpiece, Madman Across the Water. I've been listening to Metallica since I was 11 and I'm now 50. And I never thought I'd hear Metallica do a cover of Elton John... this band continues to surprise me in a good way and I love their open-mindedness. Metallica have always been incredibly good at covers and they're proving it once again. When can we expect another Garage inc?
@bobabooey45377 ай бұрын
I'd say no to another Garage Inc. They did it once, thats it....just my opinion. I saw them in Toronto for the Garage Inc mini tour, club show, 1100 people, give or take. Metallica cover band "Battery" opened for them. And the same for me... started with the band as a kid when RTL came out and have been there ever since. Im 51. Peace bro.

I've got chills! That was in my opinion the greatest cover of any song of all time. Amazing. Bravo Metallica!🤘

I keep coming back to this. This one of the greatest performances I've ever seen. It's wild to think about how Metallica linked with Elton John like this. For Years my music library would rotate between Metallica and Elton John. Two totally different styles of music, but there's something about both artist's that coincide's with another. It's not about how technically good you are in the song business. It's about the songs and how they can fill your soul.

GRUMPY 71 year OLD MAN EMBRACES THRASHER METAL BAND Last month we were watching the Gershwin Award which is present annually by the Library of Congress and broadcast by PBS and funded by viewers like you and T&D. The 2024 award celebrated the collaboration between Elton John and Bernie Taupin. Many guest celebs presented their covers of the extensive library of works written by John/Taupin. It was fun to see their reaction to another artist's take on their music. As the show progressed I got a Gardar alert of a ruggedly handsome mature man sitting in close vicinity to Elton.; just a few brief sightings as the cams panned the audience. A few performances later the host announced the next artists was the band Metallic. I knew the name from years ago but never imagined they'd still be preforming. The performance began and there his was! Turns out it's James Hetfield, lead singer and rhythm guitarist. I was immediately smitten. The performance of Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding was excellent. Over the past month I have listened to the extensive library of Metallica on KZbin and Apple music. I'd recommend "Whisky in the Jar" an Irish pub song dating back to the 1700's and James Hetfield's composition "Nothing Else Matters". Both songs are available in "Metal" and acoustic versions by Metallica. In the past year Elton and Miley Cyrus have recorded a duet of "Nothing Else Matters" Elton says that James's composition is one of the most melodic songs he has ever recorded. Howard Stein has an interview video on KZbin with Metallica, Elton John and Miley along with a separate video of the Metallic and Miley preforming the song. The last 3 years I have tried to listen to types of music I never considered when growing up, in college and all of my adult life until recently. Try it yourself, I bet you find something you enjoy, brightens your day. Maybe you'll be smitten by James Hetfield, or some other artist. People my age don't have too long to do this. Get any of the streaming music apps and start listening to your old favorites and add a new artist every day or so. Let me know how this works out for you.

Can we all agree we actually like the snare sound? Its perfect!
@tommortlock87836 ай бұрын
I think Lars is in the unusual position of having both the best and worst drum sound on a metal record (The Black album drums and snare especially are monstrous and then St Anger is the absolute opposite, which was the point but we all wish it hadn't been)

I saw Metallica in 1984 in Milan and one of my friend said perfectly "They will be the Zeppelin of our generation ". But Metallica are the Zeppelin of the 80's, the 90's, all the next and the actual generation. The greatest rock band of all times...period.
