The end of your argumentation is a bit weak, if I may. Metallica's genre has been twisted to meet mainstream (vs Slayer) after "And Justice for All" (nobody, even them, denies it). I like mainstream music too but that's not my point. So what I say is that they've abandon the magic they've brought to the genre, to mimic what other rock bands do for decade (and better than they do IMHO). In this regard Meshuggah, Scarve (among hundreds) are more faithful to the old Metallica than they are.

That's exactly what has made Slayer such an awful band over the years, they've stayed the same. They release new albums where you only care about 2 songs on there, the rest are just too typical and boring Slayer. The only spark of talent in that band is Lombardo who does all kinds of side projects too, the others can't even jam properly as Lombardo puts it himself. I'm glad Metallica went this way, they're interesting, and they kick Slayer, Meshuggah, Scarve and Mastodon's ass anyday.

actually they abonded as you call it. the heavy and trash music cause they had grown tired of it and wouldnt just stick with something they didnt wanted to do. Just like cliff taught them, to be open minded about all kinds of music styles and sounds but comparing slayer and metallica is god damn stupid and pointless they have two very diffrent ways. though they are very good friends. but metallica has always been populair even in cliffs time they were populair.

Among the most boring drummer on earth ("poom tchak - poom tchak"). When I was listening to this album years ago, I never thought these guys we'll be the Rolling Stone substitutes, a mainstream sugar coated rock band. And ... oh my ... Rob (Trujillo) what are you doing here ? (except money). Hopefully Slayer is still neat and real guys like Meshuggah, Hacride, Scarve or Mastodon... tons of them (you name it) just make us forget about this terrible waste.
