Iconic i'd give to For Whom The Bell Tolls, it's arguably one of the most recogniseable songs of their, but Blackened is definitely right behind it, absolutely beautiful harmony And the song is probably my favorite, with tight drums, rythm and meaningful lyrics ... And Justice for Jason version is superior with beefy bass covering the whole chabang

Man. I totally remember the first time I heard this song. I fell in love with it. It reminded me of Master of Puppets, but so much more grown-up sounding. And its so spastic and random that to this day, I never bothered to learn it. I've listened to this song 1000 times, and it still throws little off-time surprises at me. Its like an old school Metallicas answer to Rush's La Villa Strangiato.

Likely because it was at the end of the set and they’re tired, they do this with battery and the interlude part as well. They’re older and just can’t play it as well anymore, as well as Kirk has said he sometimes has a hard time remembering how to play the solos
@danjamesstew
@danjamesstew 3 жыл бұрын
I wish they would pull out the full version too. I suspect they just want to keep the song moving. They've done the same thing with songs like Battery and The Four Horsemen. It certainly isn't due to difficulty/lack of Kirk's ability, as it is nowhere near the hardest material he has to play. And they've been doing this for a long, long time, so it isn't reflective of age.

Got to love the odd meter crazyness of this tune. Opening riff in 7/4, verses in 6/4, and the lead up section to the 1st guitar solo with 6/4 to 7/4 back to back phrasing or 13/4. Lars keeping it groovy is amazing.

Some bands get to a point where they need to stop because they just don't sound good anymore. Metallica is one of those that has gotten better with age. The sound is really tight. James' voice has never sounded better and watching his right-hand play the intro to this just absolutely slays me. Kirk's soloing is so killer & he knows when to do a bit of improv or do the studio version. Happy Birthday by the way, Kirk. 🎂🎉. Rob's a beast doing an amazing job of holding up the low end which is no small feat considering the two guitarists he's playing with. Lars has traded in some of his power for finesse which seems like it just pushes the band to get even better. So glad they're still doing this.
