when it comes to fast tempos in metal, the main appreciation is not the difficulty level, it is the adrenalin rush. the “Go” in the song before Kirk’s solo, is also a call to the moshpit 🙂

Absolutely. I honestly don't know where they got the impression that hardcore metalheads only appreciate songs based on how difficult they are to play from. While I enjoy the channel, it's a bit annoying when they keep claiming that metal fans only care about skill. Most of us are just looking for well-constructed riff-based music when it comes to metal. Sometimes that may be technical (like stuff from Coroner or Atheist), but a lot of times it's not very technical at all (like stuff from Celtic Frost or Sodom). In fact, music that's all about technical skill with no substance (like djent) is actually disliked by most people I'd consider "metal elitists."
@bakkdavidlaszlo
@bakkdavidlaszlo 2 ай бұрын
@@SuperWoodgod i agree that djent can be very technical to a point most people loose their interest, but a very big chunk of djent riffs have meshuggah-like structure, where people headbang to the 4/4 (sometimes 3/4, 6/8, 12/8) feel of the polyrhythm, provided by the snare and cymbals, while the kick drum and guitars do the more complicated stuff. It’s all about the groove, which you have to learn to hear, if you are into grooves, like Ryan ang George ( they didn’t like Meshuggah, and it was clear that they didn’t hear the groove, or they were distracted by the harsh vocals and the polyrhythmic music).

IDK if anyone might've mentioned, but the reason this has such a spacey, soft opening is because it's right off the heels of the slow fade out that Orion had. So the two songs blend right into one another. Back in the day I would never listen to Orion without letting it go right into Damage, Inc. They go hand-in-hand for me. Just my opinion.

actually to be disappoint. likely not. every time i meet a 20-30 something "metal head" or at least hear them listening to modern metal bands, i go up and ask them, hey that sounds good, sounds like Death a bit yeah? And they don't know who the fk that is. Then i play it for them and they are like, oh wow, yeah there's definitely a resemblance. what is awesome is that we lived like 4 great eras of music, no matter the genre, and can still appreciate new stuff because some of it is - literally unbeknownst to the younger generations, a harkening to roots that are exceptionally old at this point. For instance i remember being like 11 in 1981, and hanging out with my grandfather, he was listening to 30's 40's music, in 1981. There was no music in any popular to semi popular fashion 40 years later in 1981 Huge gap. You could say that dude was cvlt as fk >D But since the late 70's to 2024, metal is just metal. All kinds of metal, things not even metal associated with metal and bands like Celtic Frost (sic) (rip) literally selling more tickets than they did 40 years ago. pretty insane actually.

This is one of a number of songs in the Metallica library that is really more of a “live” song. I personally don’t choose to listen to this on my headphones or stereo, but saw them play it live and THAT is when you realize what this song is meant for. I think you guys don’t need to worry about not liking it. Get yourself some Metallica tickets, and even if they don’t play this, the energy of their show will help you understand and appreciate it- even if it’s not playlist material.

This is not a song I'd reach out for in the age of streaming, or even one I'd skip to on a CD, but it's worth remembering that when this was released EVERYONE was used to listening to albums start to finish and a song like this plays a specific role in the composition of the album as a whole. This is not a great single, but it's a great album finisher. It's far better in context of the other songs on the album.

Nowhere close to Master Of Puppets! The degree of skill and creativity is at an all time high on Puppets - The Black album is purposely watered down, with rudimentary riffs and simplified song structures, with more ballads, which were geared for mainstream radio play. I will credit the production values on The Black album - sonics are incredible! Metallica fans that were there from the jump (me!) were stunned by the blatant stab at commercial success from a band that before this Black album, was dangerous, independent, thrilling.....they were our (metal heads) band!

A lot of other reaction channels will be like "that was sick!!!!!!!!!" even though you can tell that they didn't really like the song, but you are keeping it real man. It goes back to what you've said in some of your other videos; even if you don't like something but can tell that it is done to the utmost peak of the creators' abilities, then it's fire.

Best memory of Battery. It's May 8, 1986, Frank Erwin Center, Austin, TX...Metallica. I'm 25 years old and I brought my 15 year old sister along to experience something she'd never forget. We're 3rd row-center in those fold up chairs that were all connected in each row. We're patiently waiting for the show to start when the lights go off and everyone starts shifting and the buzz of the arena begins. Then the intro to Battery starts and it's like aw shit, it's about to go down. I stand up on my chair with my sister. Then the curtain falls, the lights illuminate the stage and the hard music starts and suddenly everyone is on top of each other. Everyone is pressing against everyone moving forward and backward, left and right. It's sheer mayhem. All-of-a-sudden my legs fall through the chair to the floor when the back of the chair folds up. My legs are trapped and my I'm trying to protect my sister. I was terrified not just for the possibility of my legs getting broke but for the safety of my sister. I look at her face and she's laughing her head off at everything going on around her. She's having the time of her life jamming' to the crunch and being a part of the hysteria. I finally got my legs out and back on top of the chair and everything was right with the world the rest of the night. Wasn't my first Metallica show or metal show but one of the more memorable ones.

Its pretty fair to say that thrash and groove are sort of at odds with each other, both sonically and for the effect it has on the listener. The best thrash bands know how to mix the two but they usually don't coincide. On Damage Inc, all that thrash at the start, really sets up how impactful the groove is on the middle section. Still get chills at that transition decades after first hearing it.

I love that you guys are finishing up MOP. However I already know how's that gonna go as MOP isn't just one of the best thrash albums but probably amongst the best rock albums broadly. what I'd REALLY LOVE to see you guys react to are some songs off the LOAD album. Load is when Metallica started getting a lot of hate as the album is pretty much not thrash though it's an excellent bluesy rock kinda album and it's extremely divisive. I personally hated the album when I was younger and heard it for the first time after hearing their first few albums and it sounded different from the sound that i was used to. However, i started getting into it about 6 years ago and now I think that the outlaw torn and bleeding me are some of the best works that Metallica has ever done. and that's saying a lot. I'd really like to see you guys react to some polarizing stuff by Metallica.

I really like Load actually. I was surprised when I heard it, but I wasn’t disappointed or angry. Sure, it was a huge change from the Metallica of the 80s and the Black album, but you can only do the same thing so many times before getting bored. Metallica has never been one to do what’s popular or what anyone demands, but just do what they feel at the time they wrote the album. The exception is St. Anger…that seemed to be catering to the style of the time, unfortunately. Death Magnetic and Hardwired are back to them doing what they feel. Either way, I’d love to see how they react to songs like Outlaw Torn, Hero of the Day, etc. I think they’ll probably like them, since there’s no super speed songs and the album is full of cool transitions. Load has a pretty heavy country and blues influence on it, but I don’t mind. I enjoy it as something different from the rest of their catalogue.

Yeah I really like the take about this song. This is my fav album of all time, but I have be in a certain mood for Damage Inc. which I do love. A lot of people react to everything as though it's the greatest thing they've ever heard, which somewhat cheapens their praise. It was more of a statement that said we are the fastest, angriest, most metal thrashing mutha f*^kers out there!
