During these Metallica Reacts, Lex always has this look on her face like she is about to open a Christmas present. Like she is shaking the box, trying to figure out what's inside, but never can 100% guess whats inside...opens it up and says *"BEST PRESENT EVER"*

I am a black man in his mid 50s I used to go to Metallica concerts and gigs before they hit it big due to a friend that turned me on to it. I was made fun for listening to this "white boy music" I listen to all music. It does my heart good to see people appreciate the greatness of the band for what they are and the genius behind the lyrics.

I'm curious? How well-received was you by the fans at the time you went to the concerts? I'm going to venture a guess and say that you were probably well received? Being a longtime fan I know the kind of people that go to those shows and they accept everybody from my experience. I've always felt that the 80s and 90s people didn't care they liked you or dislike you based on your character. Plus we had some of the best music came out of those two decades

@@Cosmictraveler71 I was well recieved for the most part. Of course there was the occasional stare even a "What are you doing here the (insert rap name here) concert isnt today." comment but heres the thing they wont tell you. There are alot of black folks who are into Metallica. More than youd think. The more annoying thing is I now live in Europe and have some younger Metallica fans tell me who they are.

This song is just about the heavy metal culture, especially in the eighties when this stuff was new. If you were a part of it, you lived it, it defined who you were. The jean jackets with the patches and pins. The long hair and rebel attitude. This was my time and there will never be another like it.
@Frostrazor

I was there! i lived it. had the hair, the earring, the jeans jacket and patches and pins, and leather boots. That was my crowd and my vibe. I found Metallica in 1986 after puppets was released and changed my life. My first experience was hanging out at the local youth "Teen Center" and someone put on "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" and i was mesmerized by what I was hearing - had never listened to hard rock/metal prior to that. Before that I was a top 40 pop fan (Madonna, Jackson, Prince, etc).

This song was a challenge to the music industry and to other bands. They put out Kill Em All, then Ride The Lightning... then this song, to close out their 3rd album, Master Of Puppets. “We chew you up and spit you out.” They we’re on the scene. Only a few short years into metal, and they basically had pioneered Thrash Metal. Is it selling out, when you INVENTED the genre? Some people would say they sold out later, after Cliff Burton died, after this album tour and the next album ( ...And Justice For All ) but that was not when this song released. This song... at this time, they were the king of the mountain. They were there to kick ass and to take the fuck over. “Fuck it all and fuckin’ no regrets... Damage, Incorporated” Metallica was here, and here to STAY. They were making a statement that they were the only band to hear, and they were taking no prisoners, holding no quarter. “METAL UP YER ASS 🤘”

@@Tateorsomething But that's the point. It does mean something. Not that it matters since I like every Metallica album, but they were selling out since the very first album. Jason even went on record in saying that every member of Metallica could have retired after the first album as well. It's sad that trolls like you always try so hard to justify hating on the current music of a band you used to like because they don't play the music that you think they should.

R.I.P Cliff Burton. He was the fiber of Metallica for the heaviness. So talented, and this album was the end of the first phase of Metallica. Everything changed after his passing (some great, and some not so great). You can see the difference in the music and writing after this album. You can feel some of Cliffs influence on And Justice For All album with that hard edge, but then it drops off for me. Like all the greats (Randy Rhoads, Stevie Ray, Dime, Jimi), if Cliff lived what would have been? Would have been fucking awesome for sure, but I will be grateful for what he gave us until his passing. Stoked to see you guys getting into all of the music. I love Metallica, have seen them in concert 4 times back in the day and wore out multiple cassettes of Kill Em All, Ride the Lightning, MOP, and AJFA, but could never stand Slayer and most other metal acts to be honest. Metallica is unlike any other metal band. I was a skateboarder into punk and hardcore and Metallica was the first metal act that appealed to me. Pantera was another metal band that came along and appealed to my punk rock sensibilities. I’m still not a big metal fan, but can appreciate the musicality and talent that goes into it. Since I was a kid, metal went batshit crazy and branched off into about a hundred different genres. Some are just mind bogglingly weird and leave me wondering how the hell there is even a fan base large enough for some of it to exist. Like some stuff I heard that had ultra fast guitar and all of the vocals were done in whispers. If that’s what you like, great, enjoy it. Play it at work or the family reunion and go crazy whipping your hair around. Whatever floats your boat. All of that being said, for whatever it’s worth, I vote no on doing any Slayer reactions.

This song is not so much about "war" in the traditional sense. It's about the fuel, energy, and kick-ass vibe of metal music - this was "thrash metal" for its time and was essentially their statement that they could still do it better than anyone else. They pretty much started that trend and this was just showing the critics and fans, they still did better. So it was kinda cultural war to illustrate their dominance in the genre. Then their bassist died while on tour. And their sound changed a little. Their next album "...And Justice For All" (which hosts the song ONE that you did a reaction to) took on a more technical appeal, long songs with lots of transitions and change-ups, and very complicated compositions and meticulous riffs packed into one song. IMO the greatest heavy metal album ever recorded from a composition standpoint as the songs were all very technically skillful.

No one is ever disappointed by Metallica, especially the old albums which we lovingly refer to as "mandatory Metallica"! There's always so much depth to explore musically, lyrically, and ideologically. They defined metal since the 80s. Well now youtube is filling up with Metallica reactions. I'll keep pushing for different bands and different tunes. I'd love to see how you react to something else, and hopefully bring you something new. For lyric videos, FEAR FACTORY has a number of them that are visually stunning and fun to watch. They are one of the innovators of industrial metal for decades. Lex I am a 45 yr old Metal head. I have listened to Heavy Metal my entire life....Watching you discover Heavy Metal with that smile and giddyness makes my heart happy. Heavy Metal is music to let that inner aggression out. Its a way to get all the bad stuff out without hurting anybody. You can see by your beaming smile that you truly enjoy it and its great watching you. That smile says it all. You look like a kid at christmas!! Keep going...keep exploring the genre there is so much that I know you will enjoy. I cant wait to see more. I suggest checking out some Iron Maiden...The Trooper or Fear of the Dark is a good starting point for Maiden. I know you will like it because Maiden has great story telling lyrics. You should be able to find Lyric videos for both songs so yall know what is being said.
