In past interviews they tell you where it came from. It's a combination of James childhood and his mother and Cliff introducing classical music theory, combined with Lars classical background.

You can just imagine a rendition of it, the song melody just begs for Judson to get to work with. And right it was, it sounds beautiful. The sorrow really becomes palpable on the piano.

That song actually saved my life when i was a youngster in high school back in the 80s. I never thought back then how iconic Metallica and that song would become back then. Judson, you have an amazing ear for all types of music and I appreciate y'all showcasing your talents here and discussing music that was so important to me and my childhood. But, I do have one question... how do y'all get passed all the copyright BS?

As far as monetization goes, we don’t get past the copyright claims. Especially with Metallica songs. I wish I had a better answer for you. They allow us to put our videos up but 99% of our videos are not monetized.

It's one thing to hear someone talk about pain, it's another thing to hear someone who you admire talk about pain. Metallica was a constant companion for me in my early teen years. Not sure if I can say it saved my life but I'm not sure I can't either.

The sound of the piano is just…I don’t have a word to describe it, it’s everything. For me it makes the song sound even darker in some parts, I guess because the piano can sound so heavenly.

I am curious about your synesthesia Judsong. Do you view the actual keys when you lopok at the piano as colors or just the sounds? My wife has it and is also a musician who sees it as numbers as well which I think you mentioned in one of your previous videos. I am fascinated. Love the vid, huge Metallica fan. I used to date a Harpist a long time ago, she played a couple of Metallica songs on her Clarsach harp. She'd converted it so it had electric pickups and used to run her Metallica tracks through various guitar pedals, including a distortion pedal. It was one of 3 that she owned, including a concert pedal harp.

I've been playing guitar for 15 years and can't do what this guy does with a piano. Watching someone hear a song and immediately work it out into a playable version on their instrument of choice still amazes me. Some people are just extra gifted lol

Metallica and Fade to Black. That same riff/turn and chord progression has popped up time and again in their work: in Unforgiven, Unforgiven II, and The Day That Never Comes.

Loved the rendition at the end of the video. Also, you cant wear that cattle decap shirt and not expect some requests. My suggestions would be Death Atlas, Times cruel curtain, Your Disposal, Kingdom of Tyrants, Just Another Body. And while we're on the subject of extreme metal. I feel like this could be a combo challenge for Judd. I feel like he could do an interpretation of Tom Waits' The Piano Has Been Drinking to the melody of Fade To Black and make it solid Gold. Plus I hate myself for Screaming outloud at the beginning of this reaction the words "Free Bird"...I just became every old man I have hated since I was a teenager that would yell those words between any song at every concert I ever attended...lol
