The iron cross symbolizes bravery in combat and is awarded to US, German and Canadian (known as the "Victoria Cross") military members. The Iron cross has also been in use by multiple armies and militias throughout history. It does not symbolize "nazism" or "racism" at all. In fact the US was using the symbol at the same time as Germany during WW2. About the guy wearing the flag shirt, that is not the confederate flag but I'm not getting into that whole side of history. To sum it up that flag on his shirt was a battle flag used by smaller armies and most notably a variation of the flag was used in the state of Virgina as a battle flag. James doing the "nazi march" was completely done in purpose and was not serious at all in fact it was most likely satirical. The band is also not a bunch of old white dudes as Robert and Kirk are both of foreign descent. Kirk being Fillipino and Robert being Mexican. To sum it up everything she has said to try and smear Metallica was all lies. She just has a problem with metal and old white dudes.

"Oriental" is hardly racist. It's insensitive because it's "euro-centric" IE "oriental" comes from Latin and means "East", because those are the lands east of Europe and the Romans who started the term. On the one hand, it groups everyone from East Asia together, which is insensitive to their variety in cultures, but no it's absolutely not the same thing as a slur. Only in the crazy world of this decade is it something cancel worthy.

@NovastarDoughnut Жыл бұрын
I think greater than that the idea of "cancel culture" is kinda bunk for everyone but a selected few. If you're an individual or a youtuber or someone whose fanbase follows you for your authenticity, then it can outright kill your career (so many youtubers have been killed by youtube drama). If you have a relatively low but influential position, then yeah, it's a threat. But for all above a certain level (or for those who do something very wrong like your weinstiens and louie CKs), then it's kinda nonsense. JK Rowling is an admitted transphobe and makes no secret of it, and still profits, Phil Anselmo said white power and made his brand being a nazi and pantera still performs, a load of the comedians who claim they "got canceled" got back up on stage then wrote and produced entire shows about how they can't say anything anymore and how "thier freedom to challenge" has been taken away (because yeah I think the people dave chapelle and Ricky Gervais, needed to challenge are the trans ones. Had it too good for too long, I think), and they still have platforms where they complain about not having one while media gives them so much attention. My point is the bigger they are the harder they are to fall.

Many of the "bad" things she uncovered during this three minutes of video were intended as provocation by Metallica in the first place, because provocation was a motif for press attention back in the days or can as well as seen as artistical concept like Kafkaeque themes, which is a main concept in metal music from the beginning. Black Sabbath portrayed an artificial killing machine as victim of its own creators and taking revenge. Leather whips and soothing pain were introducted by Judas Priest at least as imagery. Edgyness as well as what is nowadays called "Rockstar Lifestyle" was just a promotional gesture for record sales and part of the business during the 80s and went out of fashion in the 90s or shifted toward other topics. You just had to be the opposite of mother-in-law's darling. Nowadays it is almost edgy if you are such a darling in the metal scene.
