I'm paraphrasing because I can't remember exactly, but it was funny that James thought they were going to be playing some obscure old stuff that people might not have heard. My mom said she was at this show. It was like 8 or 9 months before I was born, she said she was so happy after the show she returned with my dad because they had an argument before. This show must of soaked into her ovaries or something. She did have backstage passes and met the band and stayed for like 5 hours after the show, they must of had good food.. I am fine to be honest, now I just play bass with a pick, have a gutural voice and i have long hair, although for some reason it doesnt grow on the sides of my head.. and once my band muted my bass entirely on one album and I have no idea why.

In my mind it is no offense to every other legendary concert every band has done that’s still talked about decades later like this one but I mean come on James vocals made him sound like an loud angry lion Jason’s backing vocals you would think he was possessed by how he sounded at times Kirk’s playing was phenomenal like on the albums themselves and lastly Lars’s drumming was almost perfect yet so fast and that snare! Sounds like a machine gun going off and with the echo in that arena makes it sound like there’s about 100 guns going off in there plus the crowd!! Loud and just word for word perfect! The moshpits and headbanging from men and women in there I COULD TALK FOREVER AS TO WHY THIS CONCERT TO ME IS NUMBER #1!

This is proof that crowds makes a huge difference in the way bands rock out. The speed they played at is breathtaking. Best Metallica concert. Maybe second best.

That’s just what they were doing back then. If you check out a few more of their concerts from mid/late 80s like the show in Japan, or Canada, they are going extremely fast as well. Although, I will say those two shows recordings are… well… not as good as this production if ya know what I mean. However they’re both on KZbin so it’s still pretty cool.

Kinda. But imo Jason's departure was a symptom - not the cause. I suspect the bell first rang when Cliff died and they realized that it was ringing for them. So they decided to stay together and keep playing, but at the same time they had to overcome the loss and kept going with understanding that it could end for them just as quickly. I think Kirk mentioned that he was gonna sleep at the bunk Cliff fell out of the bus from. So I guess they just decided to cash out in a way. Use their reputation to play whatever they want and make money from it to enjoy the time they got left. I think it made them wake up from the rock star dream and reconsider their priorities. But Jason didn't go through all of that and became an emotional punching bag for others to let anger out on. And James always looked like the most honest and emotional guy of them all to me. So yeah, now the band is a way for them to make money and have fun, but I wouldn't go as far as to say that it in any way undermines them being the biggest metal band in history.

I said the exact same thing when I listened to the Black album a few times back in the day. I knew then that Justice was their pennacle and they reached it. It sucks it took them so long to make Hardwired...to self destruct. That is the album that should have followed Justice. Hardwired is very good.

It wasn't just 1 show, they were 2. First one night, and then the other one. And in all the videos of the concert I have seen, they plug the two performances into one. Because of that, sometimes Jason magically appears with a brown bass instead of his black one. (And I know he could have it behind as a backup, but fuck it)

I mean I love Pantera, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden. But to me no band will ever come close to what Metallica has done with their first 5 albums. The last 2 albums are great too. People always talk about how Kirks or Lars' technique sucks. Im just a regular guy who doesnt give a shit about pentatonic scales or whatever. I just love the sound that comes out the speakers. This is music not the fucking olympics so I just love the musicality of the band not the speed that theyre playing or technique that theyre using. Im a music fan.
