Load is very underrated. If any other band had released it it would be considered a 90's classic. Because the mighty Metallica released it all the 80's elitist thrash boys shoot it down. It's a great album, deep lyrics, catchy melodic riffs.

so you're one of those guys who uses the word "elitist" more often than "hello"

TMPOUZI Metallica got shit on for having acoustic guitars on Ride The Lightning, and then when they did a music video. It's safe to say there was some elitist fans.
@TMPOUZI6 жыл бұрын
What did you expect man? Thrashers and devoted metallers seeing their metal idols getting a haircut and releasing load-reload albums to leave the mosh pits and start dancing in joy to it's country-blues rhythms? I think they were kinda justified. You're kinda being the elitist here for no reason
@TMPOUZI6 жыл бұрын
Lol the latin word elitist in 5 out of 5 comments
@Alexander-gj9ms6 жыл бұрын
It's not just about elitism. It's also about selling out. Metallica got a taste of mainstream chart topping success with "Black" and wanted more of that $hit but they knew another "enter sandman" type approach wouldn't work in the grunge era. So they churned out load which was supposed to be some sort of post grunge post metal heavy rock album. By doing this they chose to finally abandon a big chunk of their fan-base (the metal "elitists") because they wanted to stay relevant in the mainstream. They liked that money you know? Which is why they fought so hard against piracy and file sharing too! And it is why they are still together (minus bass player again) desperately trying to stay relevant with their gray hair and their teenage kids rehashing the same old shit which proves they've run out of ideas. And BTW Load was inspired in large part by Newstead. Without Newstead you get St. Anger, Death Mag, and the latest one whatever it's called (they're all garbage).

I think for a lot of us we hated it when it came out as it was such a large departure from the sound we latched on to in the '80s. It just wasn't Metallica (thrash) and was way more alternative/pop to us. The thing is it really wasn't bad music, just different, and I think as I get older I actually appreciate it now more for what it was than when it first came out. It still isn't thrash, but I will actually willingly listen to it these days. lol

Yeah I mean honestly I think this album is very underrated mainly by the hardcore devoted Metallica fans. It’s just the way it is. I still remember buying this the day it came out back in June of ‘96 and although it didn’t sound like their previous records, there was something about it that still managed to pull me in (at this point, I was blasting Pantera’s The Great Southern Trendkill on 11 practically every single day haha - completely different record)...fast forward to now and I absolutely love both of them for what they deliver and they both kick some major ass. I’ll leave it at that =). Btw I couldn’t stop laughing at your reactions to these songs. Good shit.

These comments... lol. There are definitely two distinct Metallica eras: BES (Before Enter Sandman) & AES (After Enter Sandman). Before, and it's well documented, they played fast for the sake of playing faster than any other band out there. They were speed metal pioneers, and that worked in the early 80s. But Enter Sandman is forever their biggest hit, and they knew that the slower, more melodic sound is what would keep them relevant and propel their career into the stratosphere. Load is the album that solidified that turning point.

James Ratty Esteban Carballo Defnition or maybe it's the other way around. Load-Reload are getting some mild recognition today only because it's Metallica. If f.e. Aerosmith had put these albums out maybe no one would remember them by now. In reality those two albums are so generic that in a week after this video's done, no one will remember them ever again. Metallica now don't play that stuff, people goes to see them play MoP live. I'm a Black Sabbath fan and even their last album "13" or "Technical Ecstasy" has better riffs than this
@conspiracionesy6 жыл бұрын
TMPOUZI I dont know how old are you.. maybe really young cause in case you did not know Metallica 90s era was the most successful of their times, so you saying that today those albums are been recognized is pure ignorance, you have any idea how many albums they sold with Load and Reload back then? Is also a matter of what you like.. if you dislike Load and Reload well there is nothing we can do to change your mind or your ears cause music is made for different kinds of tastes and likes, but I have heard the last Black Sabbath album and is nothing compared to what they did in the past, and nothing similar to Metallica load and Reload albums, you should know that they were influenced by OLD Black Sabbath sound and their album 13 was released like 2 years ago, so learn something about music
@TMPOUZI6 жыл бұрын
Esteban Carballo I don't know maybe they sold as many cds as Britney Spears. So?? It doesn't change the fact that it's generic as hell. And something else try to deal with an argument , say your shit and skip the age and ignorance stuff. I'm probably older than you & seen black Sabbath live twice and Metallica 3 times. The Sabbath reference just triggered me responding and I mentioned Technical Ecstasy (1976) also. 13 was 4 years ago

I kinda undertand why a lot of people dislike this album, it was somewhat anunexpected kick in the balls to their fans back in the 90s, but I think if they got the best songs from Load and the best songs from Re-Load, it would have made a great album. Different, but a great album. Not my thing, tho. Glad you enjoyed it! PS: I'm SO looking forward to St.Anger. I'm so curious.

I myself hearing this album's sounds (even through this video) for the first time after so many years, I totally get myself for reacting badly and hating on Metallica back in the day. Back then small kids, we all kinda hoped that after black album (which was an ok album for me) they would go back to thrashing... until we all saw the "until it sleeps" single video on mtv. Especially when I saw the "Hero of the day" one I think I threw all my metallica cds & cassetes in my storage closet. Never wore their t-shirt again. So I totally understand the hate they got by me and so many others! Now that we've grown up and matured it's sounding rather ok but back then ...no way

Each song, good to see you listening and digging it (Track 6, okay, explanation, but that song will take ppl somewhere, and Mama Said, too. I know you ain't dissin). Kinda figured a lot of people would shy away from this album, because Metallica were so foundational in the USA, then didn't make an album for half a decade and came back with haircuts and 10x more tattoos. I'd heard "Justice" and "Lightning" in my house when I was little, and started listening to 'Tallica around the black album...actually working my way backward through the albums (which for a 1st-timer is a *great way to do it*) ... and then when Load and Reload came around something was waay different. But it wasn't really the songwriters. They were just changing. Almost 10 yrs later I went back and listened to Load on a solo roadtrip, and from beginning to end I realized that this art was distilled. Someone who made heavy metal music for a living had become a wiser human, and actually had something to say and something to offer. And the production actually did not disappoint. (I don't care that Lars's drums are different; haters should get a life.) Metallica are badasses and I'm glad you found them. It took years, but this became one of the albums I actually take most seriously as good music. Some people just take their fandom too seriously, and they have my empathy. I'M RELIEVED YOU DUG IN AND FOUND IT! YES! this thorn in my side is from the tree i planted; it tears me and i bleed

One of the things I think a lot of classic metal fans forget is that 90s Metallica was just as influential as 80s Metallica. Both created whole subgenres of metal, like "Justice" created death metal, but 90s Metallica created modern mainstream metal. "Load" was the first Metallica album I heard and I loved it. Then I found the 80s stuff. Now I love all of it.
@TMPOUZI6 жыл бұрын
So load and reload with it's "Johnny cash meeting Bon Jovi & Aerosmith meeting Alice in Chains & Bush" sound who exactly did it influence after that? Let me tell you. Noone. Then 2003's St Anger was a mediocre rip off of some groovy nu metal stuff from the mid 90's and ...And Justice by no means created Death Metal. Bands like Death, Obituary, Carcass, Morbid Angel, Deicide, Vader, Cannibal Corpse, Therion all from the 80's did that. Metallica after done being pioneers of thrash metal just tried to stay relevant by imitating sounds. They've done it successfully, with grace & hype, but it's still imitation, not original stuff. The modern metal bands are influenced only by MoP, AJFA and Black Album, with the latter just being like a mid-tempo leftover version of the 80's themselves, sounding a bit better cause of the new at the time digital era sounds

I think the only problem with this album and the others between ...And Justice For All and Death Magnetic is that they were made my Metallica. If any other band made these albums or even if they were under a different name, more people would give them the respect they probably deserve. I'm not one of those people. I give the Black Album props for being the first Metallica album I listen to, but I never liked that they changed their sound so drastically to sell more albums. What we all learned from this series so far is that you are not a fan of thrash metal. That's good. This is how opinions and music tastes are formed. I'm glad you're enjoying these albums.

I remember clearly when Load came out and how much it sucker punched me and my friends. It was not necessarily that it was "bad" music in general but it just sounded like they were trying to sound like someone else and lacked the intensity and melody that were so integrated with Metallica on all of the albums. Load and Reload are heavily influenced by southern trucker metal but songs like Bleeding me, Until it sleeps and Outlaw Torn are to me very good songs and were even back then.

Been trying to watch these reactions and it's been mostly fun. I've also tried to see what kind of music you actually like, but it does not seem to be very consistent when it comes to sound (even though you claim that you can't stand the 80's). At first I thought you just like groovy things, but then again Metallica's black album is very groovy and you hated it. And you loved some progressive metal when it was all about very technical fast rumblings. Then you say you hate the Bum Bap sound but love rap music which is like the most Bum Bap genre there is. Then you claim it's about the aged sound (which I don't really see when it comes to the Black Album) but then you did love Dream Theater's Images and Words which is like the single most 80's record you have so far reacted to. You even liked Ride the Lightning which might be the most 80's sounding album from Metallica. My conclusion is that it's mostly about 1) your own mood and 2) preconceptions and attitudes towards "old sounds" (try the 70's next?) that for some strange reason make you skip songs that sound slow. Not saying it's wrongly done by you, but helps viewers understand why you might hate albums that without reasonable doubt get some good vibes from you (considering something similar did before). So if it's a sunny day or a bad day at work it seems like you'll give a bad reaction. Understandable!

He did the Black Album last month on his other channel, and everyone flipped out on him for skipping their earlier albums so now he's doing those. Spoiler alert: He didn't like it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJ6niYiXq7x0mLc

I finally understood ! You like the sound ...bass sound reflects what you really dig and what do you call as "groovy and funky" ! You will never ever like old sounds obviously ! Better to keep listening to 2000 bands . .

1. Great you love it!! I love it too!!! 2. AUDIOSLAVE is the band that will rock your balls out - It's RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE with a real singer.

After the Kill em All and Ride the Lightning reactions, I had a feeling you'd be into the Load and ReLoad era of Metallica. I love coming to these albums in the car and just being in the groove. Fair warning, their sound is gonna evolve again after ReLoad. If you move on to Garage Inc, you might find a few fun songs, but they are all covers or mashups. St. Anger might get in your ear like Kill em All, I'm interested to see what you think there. It should make for an interesting journey :)

Hey, I love all eras of Metallica (except St Anger...) so I expected you to really dig this album. Bleeding Me is one of my favorite songs off of any album, so glad you enjoyed that one.

3:57 "How can you not like this?" People hate on this record because it's blues based and the cover says "Metallica", who are identified as metal. That's it. Any other blues oriented band would have put out this record, it would have been one of their best.

Load has some good groove tracks, but it sounds a bit like James and the boys said, Hey! Let's make an album strippers can dance to!

I knew he would love Load. He’s gonna love ReLoad, he’s gonna looooove St.Anger (probably) don’t know what he’s gonna be like with Death Magnetic and Hardwired. We’ll see

Awesome video man. A quick request, when u go to the next album you'll come across the song "Unforgiven 2".. Its not a slow ballad but it is slower paced. Please do not skip, it's one of my all time favorite Metallica songs. Has an awesome solo as well. Thank you sir

I’m quite disappointed that he only like ride the lightning out of 5 of the greatest metal albums and you see him dancing to fuckin load
@NJSmithMusic6 жыл бұрын
tornado smashers he likes groove and rhythm. Most of Metallica's stuff in the 80's is fast for the sake of being fast and lacks groove. It was more straight ahead.

Nice to see Load getting some love. I'm a huge Metallica fan, I own every album, yes, even St. Anger. Load and ReLoad are such great albums, neither of them got the love they deserved. Just don't listen to Lulu and turn into a table. Lol

This...album....is...amazing. This was the first album I ever heard from them and this album, despite being nearly 79 minutes long, feels like a 59 minute album. I get Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, and Mudhoney vibes from this...it’s very Grunge and Alternative based

And i will tell you where it came from:) That's the Grunge era's footprint on Metallica. Grunge is a mix of Blues/Punk/rhytm and blues ...and all of grunge artists go back to old folk and blues records....'cause it's raw, simple and straight from the heart. And that's what they picked up in the 90's :)

You’re gonna love Hardwired. It blends both the 80s thrash and the sound of albums like this one.

Load is a blues and hard rock driven album, same goes with the next album Reload which I know he'll dig. A blackman just has the blues in his blood and he doesn't know it!..it's pretty obvious now lol. Love your reviews man!
@snackersnew6 жыл бұрын
Load and Reload are solid rock albums with a groove but here metallica were clearly leaving metal behind for a period. Lars Ulrich actually said "metal is dead" at that time (he corrected himself years later).
