@@TimHolman yeah it’s nice that you play it slow to get the timing down correctly. Reading a tab is hard to really try to translate timing until someone plays it slow, not to mention showing finger placement and if you’re picking up and down. Kinda like how you showed that pentatonic pattern on how to pick it on fade to black

Great video, just one question. What in general helps to speed up difficult parts? I struggle to speed up the first bit of the main solo. I can play it as slow as you played it in the video but I can't seem to get it faster. Keep up the good work as always. (PS: I find it hard to play to a metronome I don't know why lol)

Hi Tim, as usual you've published a very accurate lesson and I give you my compliments. I'm just sorry that Kirk Hammet has the "bad habit" of always playing the 22nd fret of the guitar during his solos, since my Fender Stratocaster Yngwie Malmsteen unfortunately only has 21 frets, damn it! Is it true that the next lesson will be dedicated to Disciples of the Watch by Testament? 😍

@mvk20533 ай бұрын
Quick question - it looks like you are showing the last 2 notes of measure 10 as being different than when you played it before back in your video on downstrokes. Before it was just 2 chugs on the open E before the sliding power chords, which I think is the way Kirk played it in that lesson video he did way back when…is that another one of those things that they play it differently live than it was on the record?
@TimHolman3 ай бұрын
That's just the way Kirk plays it live. It's not like that on the album. I've noticed that he still plays it like that. I just played it like that since the video wasn't meant as a MOP tutorial. Sorry for the confusion.
@mvk20533 ай бұрын
Thanks so much. I figured it was something like that, but wanted to make sure. Your tutorials are awesome in every way, accuracy, clarity, and completeness above all. It’s a great day every time one of these comes out, and I’m really looking forward to seeing the rest of the MoP and AJFA albums, and beyond!

Thanks for the lesson. Question: I do not hear the octave slides at all during the verse riff in the isolated track. It sounds like normal 3-5 to 5-7 power chord slides to me (G to A)
@TimHolman4 ай бұрын
It's hard to catch but they are there. If you slow the track down to half or quarter speed it's more apparent. The higher octave will pop out more. With the first part of the riff James seems to have sometimes slid a three string power chord, probably unintentionally as his pinky just barred the higher string. This also reduces the impact of the octave slide and makes it harder to hear the difference. Repeated listening should help you hear. I agree they are hard to hear though and am not surprised that you brought it up. Thanks for the question!

Very first chord is a Em power chord 022 (top to bottom)
@TimHolman4 ай бұрын
Incorrect. As I explain in the video they play it like that live but on the album you can hear the B pitch located on the 9th fret of the D string. You can also get that pitch on the fourth fret of G but they definitely didn't do that.
@pvsnoir4 ай бұрын
@@TimHolman i definitely can’t hear the same as you. I reheard over and over again the studio version to verify and watched tons of live versions from 1986 and I still hear Em. But maybe I am really wrong
@TimHolman4 ай бұрын
Try slowing the isolated track down to quarter speed and play the low power chord at the same time as the track. You'll hear that it doesn't quite sound right until you play the higher voicing.
