I grew up in the hood, listened to nothing but rap basically, until I was about 14. Heard this song and metal became my #2 genre. 11 years later, and metal is my religion. Best community of people I've ever hung around, instead of walking into a room of judgement, you walk into a room full of strangers that will treat you like a brother. Metallica, megadeth, slayer, pantera, etc is only the beginning. The disease got to you. Hope to see you at shows.

@@cleansentIt's very true they are both very similar. One side you have more instrumentals but the feelings it gives is beautiful but also can give extreme depths. The pace of the song is to illustrate the cycle of addiction. The first part is the need and the control it has on the person. Fast and persistent . The middle melodic section illustrates the mood after a fix. Much more calm, relaxed and beautiful . Then it returns back into the demanding need and control the addiction requires. Until it controls and ultimately kills you. The way the music illustrates the cycle is actually quite brilliant. Just my interpretation.

The slower part of the song is supposed to be a reference to the puppet giving into it's master (the drugs). That is why it is slower and more euphoric compared to the rest of the song, and then slowly wears off and builds back up and the first verse to follow it is the puppet accusing the drugs for ruining his life doing nothing but lying and ruining his life. The heavier parts of the song, to me at least, are a reference to being sober and feeling the urge to give into the drugs. It's brilliant and at the same time extremely sad.

Totally agree. If only the majority of Metalheads were as open-minded as well. Then again, plenty of channels are starting to appear where Metalheads react to Hip-Hop, so change is definitely coming. Music is a universal language, and it comes in all shapes. I listen to almost everything, be it Metal, Rock, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Funk, RnB, Blues, Pop, Classical or even Video Game music (which has come a long way). I just can't imagine my life without music.

That moment when you realize that the song mellowing out is symbolic of the high a drug gives you, and when it gets heavier, it's coming off the high and beginning withdrawals.
@kabiskzor6 жыл бұрын
Deep and interesting way to look at.. I think its just going low so they can build it up again just for the riff.. Most bands just riff and then write lyrics on top afterwards to make it a song. They write the lyrics to fit into the melody not the melody to fit into the lyrics.. I don't think they compose the melodies with a meaning behind it but rather they compose it for how the music feels to them.. They feel the music rather than think it. But each to their own mate your take on the song is yours and no one can say you are wrong or right its your own musical journey lol

"I guarantee I can listen to other metal bands and I wont get that same feeling." My friend you've only scratched the surface of metal. Once you go down the road and invest time into really doing your research around metal bands, different styles and different generations you'll quickly realize there's no other genre you can compare it to. If you had to pick a genre that was closest to metal/rock, it would he classical. They follow alot of the same patterns.

You notice everything and it seems overwhelming because it all comes at you at once. Then you take the drug and it mellows out. Then at the end when it picks up again, that’s when the high wears off and you hit sobriety again.
