Though the hands look not so 'robot', they are actually driven in a 'robot' manner, and lack the biological details of human hands. Therefore, there is no fatigue or human-like feeling of comfort to constrain the movement of the hands. The results are more about showing the highly synchronized accurate fretting and picking behaviors of two hands. We even ignore the strings at all during simulation due to the complexity of accurate string simulation. It is true that they cannot reproduce human guitarists' performance with high fidelity. The control policy chooses upstroke by randomness as the tab itself has no additional requirements about the stoke directions.

I had completely forgotten that guitarists are crazy gatekeepers while most of them can only play a pentatonic scale and only knows how to read tabs... This is just an animation to showcase their work and I imagine it works with midi for the placement of the hand on the neck.
