I'm practically strictly an 80's Metallica fan. With that said, I find Roam and Misery brilliant. Even though James sounds great and the lyrics are golden, I still wish it was an instrumental with more layered guitars.

Thank you sir! I respect you. I've learned several metallica songs watching your tutorials! Having said that, I'd like to point out in this tutorial you "merged" the james melodies with kirks melody and vice versa, but not the entire part. James plays always the lower part of the melody, except for the part that is doing the "sweep picking arpeggios" of 13-10 on the first string and 10 on the second string. All that part, James is doing the higher melody part and kirk is doing the lower melody part until the last part where James return to the lower melody with the arpeggio 17-12 on first string, 13 on the second string and kirks returns to the higher melody. You can check it out by watching them live, and knowing that James always do the lower parts of the melodies almost every single time in all songs. Cheers!

For the harmonized james/kirk part, what effects are you using to get a similar sound?

I don't use effect, just the ' normal " drive sound. Maybe various amont of gain to feel confortable depends on the guitar, i don't remember, cause i do it on the fly when i record my videos. These harmony parts are always dry sound, like the riffs.

Hey Julien I need a little help with this one: in the harmonized solo, Kirk's part, how do you mute the B and E strings when doing the arpeggio at 2:47? I've tried resting my pinky on the B string but I don't feel comfortable enough and can't play up to speed with my pinky like that. I can't use my palm either otherwise I'll mute the G and D strings too! How can I do?

Hey buddy, I mute it with my neck hand, not my picking hand. Picking hand "mutes " the low strings to shut them down when i play the high strings. Hard to explain by words... This is time you need to take some one on one lessons with your man ! 😉

When I first heard James' harmonised part I thought it was a keyboard! It sounds like those notes are being bashed on keys. One more thing: you haven't specified which Mesa Boogie you use?

No keyboards here my friend. I never use EQ or something, always the sound of my amp just like he enters in the mic, but for this part, i cut a little the high frequencies on both guitars. For the sound, i just use my Revv G3 distortion pedal into my Fender Supersonic 22 into Mesa 2x12 cab. Check out my ESP KH-2 demo on my channel, you got amp, pedal, settings, various sound exemples 👊🏻 💀 👊🏻
