Kirk shines on _Ride the Lightning_ and _Master of Puppets._ The Mustaine songs "Ride the Lightning", "The Call of Ktulu" and "Leper Messiah" are so very sufficiently changed by the time they recorded them that nothing was lost not having Dave play on them.

Dave is the one who has integrity. He said that Lars had absolutely no part in writing/composing any of these tracks and he's 100% right. Giving songwriting credits to the drummer for coming up with the drumbeats is like giving songwriting credits to the bassist for the bass parts and the lead guitarist for the solo. Some bands do it, but there are a lot of tracks that McGoveney, Mustaine, Burton, Hammett, Newsted and Trujillo contributed parts to that they were understandably not credited for. Been listening to Metallica for almost 20 years now, but I only heard this for the first time today I guess the most interesting part is that the songs here were practically already "finished" more than a year before Kill'em All was released. They were only more well produced to the album, but every riff, tone, snare etc, is here. I mean, dudes really knew how they wanted to sound back then, and that's even more impressive if you think that Hetfield was... let me search... 18 fucking years old on this? Astonishing. Hail to Metallica!

People saying Kirk played better than Dave Mustaine are forgetting the fact that this was a damn demo recorded half-assed in a garage, and those guys heard Kirk play the solos on a proper, well-produced, well-recorded *studio* album. Not a fair competition.
@fabricebacquart7 жыл бұрын
Kirk Hammett had to study what Mustaine did to try and copy him lol. There's no competition at all. Mustaine made metallica what it became along with Cliff Burton. Kirk Hammett just happened to be there.

Killing is My Business still had half-assed sounding solos.
@adamgriffith-smith91066 жыл бұрын
Fabrice Bacquart James and Lars have always been the reason for the bands success. Mustaine was their in the early days but they did fine without him while Cliff just introduced the band to the basics of music theory but in terms of songwriting still James and Lars.
@bilalcan23666 жыл бұрын
Mustaine was not the man who defines the sound of Metallica. Metallica's sound was set after Kirk and Cliff. Without Kirk's signagure solos, you cannot say it Metallica

Interesting that at the time, James called it "Power Metal." The term Thrash Metal didn't come until later on and was named after an Anthrax song.

I don't know if it cause it's the only song ever that Lars doesn't have writers credit for. But I freaking love motorbreath. And I love how it sounds on here.

Those Hit the Lights guitar parts are still the most kick ass riffs to hear starting an album. Man those guys could come up with some amazing riffs and harmony parts. Few bands have 1-2 memorable riffs like that and Metallica probably has 50.
@heavenhelp19828 жыл бұрын
John Melton Agreed. They get a lot of hate these days but Metallica did give the world at least 4 (arguably, 5) great albums, all with memorable riffs on them. Learning to play each of those songs helped improve me as a guitarist and I'm eternally grateful to that band

Ya know what I noticed, the pick scrape at the beginning of No Life ‘Til Leather, ( what would be Hit The Lights) goes from LEFT to RIGHT. In Kill ‘Em All, on Hit The Lights, it goes from RIGHT to LEFT.

James Hetfield, Dave Mustaine, Cliff Burton, and Lars Ulrich all together in one band is like a musical super group. The fabrics of reality would've ripped apart if they all stayed together and Cliff didn't pass. They would've been too powerful for our universe to handle

exactly how i remember it in '82 on my friends "new" tape deck.. such a great time to be alive.. we actually wrote them off as diamond head wannabes, until lightning came out.. so original and fresh for the time. and then puppets came? shit the bed, we got us an awesome band here gents.. finish rolling that J, hand me another beer, and crank that shit till the neighbors call the cops... all of us backyard party bands tried to learn as much metallica as we could, and when we played it, even as bad as we did play it, it still got the crowd in a frenzy and got us laid, so alls well that ends well... again, great time to be alive
