A song that is somewhat forgotten when people talk Metallica. They talk Sandman, Master of Puppets, Horsemen, One, etc. But when you listen to Nothing Else Matters, you are reminded to the power it has. Elton John said it best, it is one of the best songs ever written. It has everything.

It’s funny, if you listen to interviews with James from around that time, recording this album was where he learned he knows how to sing - up until that point he didn’t believe he could actually do it properly.

Every time I hear James yell "Yeah!" It's like he's screaming in the faces of Life & Death and it gets me emotional. James will always be a god to me. A lot of people put Lars down, but there'd be no Metallica if it wasn't for him. He's also one of the drummers to bring double-bass drumming into the forefront.

The story behind the song is the starting of the song where there are open string (E-G-B-e pattern), James Hetfield wrote that while he was talking to his then girlfriend on the phone, he was just randomly strumming. It started from there and he composed the entire song, showed it to Lars, Lars liked it and rest is history. And yeah, James Hetfield played the solo, it's so beautiful, work of a master!!!! After all these years, I am still in love with this song. First guitar solo I learned, because of James!!!!

Love all different genres and how each one speaks to me and how I can feel each note of certain songs. Music is truly a language within itself. It's a joy watching you respond so raw to each song, having to go back and listen to certain parts over again, picking up on tiny nuances within the music. This is what music is about. It lifts our spirits, tells a story, gets our feet tapping and dancing, makes us cry, makes us laugh, makes us smile, gives us energy, quiets our souls, captures exactly what we feel. It makes us alive! Love your love of music! Have a lot of your reactions to catch up on 😃

This song transcends its genre. One thing that I always loved about Metallica and specifically James Hetfield was his ability to play his guitar as sort of a back bone to the song. It always fits subtly and perfectly. His trademark rhythm guitar playing is the best part of this group, in my humble opinion. He is truly underrated in that regard. This song he was on lead guitar and that is a rare thing. When you deep dive into the discography, you'll need to listen to songs more then once to really get a feel for what he tries to do with his playing (Also to that part, he's really the lyrical genius and he has reached deep inside for a lot of the band's lyrics) I think his rhythm guitar shines the brightest during the 90s during black album, load, and reload. This is not to take away from Kirk. His solos are of course epic and that's where he shines. An example of hearing his rhythm guitar playing standing out is the song My Friend of Misery. You really should listen to every single song starting with the Album Kill Em All, all the way to the most recent Death Magnetic. Let each album be its own thing and don't try to compare one to another. This is almost roughly 35 years of music.

Ok, first I gotta say I loved watching your reaction to this song/video. I think you really appreciate Metallica. Keep rockin. Wear that Metallica shirt with pride! Now, something you might not know about Metallica, specifically James and Kirk. They mainly play ESP (Japanese company) guitars. In fact they endorse them and you can buy their signature series of guitars (for A LOT of money!!). But originally they played Gibson (American company) guitars. Gibson wanted them to endorse their products, but ESP offered to let James and Kirk design anything they want and ESP would make it. It paid off for James, during a concert in 1992, James was standing in the wrong spot when a stage port went off. 3200 degrees of liquid magnesium ignited right under James Hetfield. His ESP guitar (similar to the white one he does the solo with in this video) saved his life. He was burned on his hand and face but the guitar took the main blast. It was utterly destroyed immediately but James survived. ESP guitars became legendary, almost having a mythical and magical status today. The ESP name carries a lot of weight in the guitar world.

I've heard this song so many times on the radio, I got completely sick of it years and years ago. But this reaction for some reason made me feel appreciation toward it again after all these years. I didn't think it was possible. That's how I know it is a legit and good reaction. Thank you.

oh god! *deeply sigh* i ... i ... i haven't heard this song til the end since specifically events in the first week in 2019, without crying in tears and severe mentally pain! 😢 every time it started i instandly stopped the video, or skipped the song in the playlist or what so ever, because i couldn't stand it. i'm a toughass and fuly grown 42 years old man from austria, a pure blood metalhead since 2000 - 2001. regarding metallica i can't really provide any details, just that i loved a bunch of songs from them, not all but a bunch of songs. "nothing else matters" was the first song i heard from the band. that was way way earlier, some time in the 90's, i don't remember anymore when this was, but i saw in TV the band playing this song together with a fully classical music orchestra, and it becomes instandly to one of my all time favorite pieces of music. after many traumatic events in my life i fell really heavely in love with a young woman, living in berlin, which is - besides others tasks - also a singer with a really beautifull voice. a friend of her is a very good musician with the piano, they done a music stream on her twitch channel in 2018 and i donated money with text to wish this song from them both. at the end of the stream after waiting over 5 hours she did it. since that day, everytime i hear the song my head instandly overwriting the singer with the voice of that woman. after a nother traumatic event, which is connected with that woman and which was extremelly painfull for me ... i couldn't stand listening to this song. today i listend to nothing else matters for the first time til the end. 😢 and my head still switches her voice with the current singer, no matter who is singing it. and it is still painfull to hear it ._.

I remember when this first came out and how angry and betrayed I felt. Now before I say any more, I'm now 57 years old, I'm a ride or die METALLICA FAN. It took me some years to appreciate the vast vision and scope of thier talent. Now I feel like such an idiot for being pissed when this masterpiece was released. \m/

I Love seeing the Next Generation find Metallica.. = ) Metallica has a way of bring people together, to see it's OK, to be Different & not fit in, it's ok to have Struggle's in Life & most Importantly. that you are Actually not Alone.... = ) Never forget, you have 7 odd Billion , Brothers & Sisters here with you here on Earth, make sure you Love them & look after them All... = ) Metallica has Saved more people then I think it's possible to calculate & I am One of them, they Got me through Very dark Times, in my Younger years & I will Forever be Grateful.... I have had the Pleasure of seeing them Live in Brisbane, Australia & I will never forget the Times they have Gotten me Through, when it seemed I had no outs & I thought no One Cared.... Metallica was always, waiting for ME... = ) I Love Metallica & Bisscute's Reactions. I'm so Happy Bisscute has found Metallica too & to see her Reactions to what I found too, 20 odd Years Earlier, makes my Heart Melt, so Thank You Bisscute... Keep rocking Girl, you are made for what you are doing, TY.. = ) I Love You All, Be kind to Others, It Cost's Nothing... = )

its easy to understand this song, just easy as this: do what you want and believe in, and nothing else matters.

Classic Metallica! And so chill. It's the epic guitar that drew me to Metallica way back when. Vocals weren't that great in the earlier albums, but the instrumental was always amazing. In my 2nd year of university Metallica came to our campus for a concert during Arts County Fair, unfortunately it was during final exams and my schedule didn't match up so I missed it.
