For as long as we can remember, we have wanted to create an arrangement where we would both play on the same harp, at the same time. However, we didn’t want to arbitrarily choose a song, so we put it on the back-burner. One day C went up to K and said “I know what song we should play on one harp!” K immediately replied: “One!” So we knew it was meant to be. :D :D We started working on the logistics - which ended up being more complicated than we expected. K had to learn how to play backwards (quite a mind teaser) and C had to figure out how to change the pedals for BOTH of our completely different parts. (The pedals change the pitches of the strings - allowing us to change keys or get accidentals) We wanted to utilize the soundboard for percussion, so we started incorporating percussion into C’s part. We wanted to create some percussion for K’s part, but because she was playing backward, she couldn’t reach the soundboard with her hands. So, we invented the technique of kicking the harp with the instep of the foot. People are often concerned that we’re damaging the harp, but the harp is much stronger than our feet! (Even though we’re 3rd degree black belts in Tae Kwon Do!) K actually split her foot open while rehearsing this piece and we didn’t notice until there was blood streaming down the soundboard of the harp. Drawing blood made our interpretation even more metal, though. ;) ;) It was fun to invent new ways to play the harp for this arrangement. We are literally re-inventing our instrument! We LOVE playing this arrangement at our live shows. And yes, what we’re playing in the video and what you’re hearing is real. Audio Recording = No recording studio. No loops, overlays, or backtracks. Just 1 harp -- 1 audio take! We hope you enjoy listening/watching as much as we enjoy playing!

*TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS* Please also click "read more" : Q. Why did you use *only one harp?* A. As an *homage to the title* of the song!! ONE was a top request. So we decided to arrange it on only 1 harp and create both a musical and a performance piece. For our other videos we are each playing a harp. Q. Why do you *kick* the harp? A. ONE is an intense, emotional, and disturbing song. We wanted to find a way to get as much sound with as much variance as possible - with only 1 harp - an instrument people usually associate with peace and relaxation. Covering a song that was originally played by an entire band, on just one harp and making it sound full and rocking was a huge challenge. We wanted to include percussion elements that are so important in the original so slapping, drumming, and tapping made sense. *The player on the "wrong" end of the harp could not reach the sound board with her hands, so we invented the idea of kicking the harp* - using her instep (the top of the foot, NOT the toes) ! She removed her shoe so she would not scuff the wood on the harp. Q. Did it *hurt* her foot/toes? A. No, not by the time we filmed the video. Kennerly did not use her toes. She used her "instep", the top of her foot. Kennerly split her foot open when we were arranging and learning this... we had to clean blood off the soundboard. But, by the time we created our video Kennerly’s foot had become very tough and it was/is no longer painful. She also removed her shoe so that she would not scuff the wood. Q. Why do you *look at each other* while you are playing? A. We are a *real life* instrumental duet - not just a KZbin collab. *We look at each other for timing, to signal (cue) each other, and because we’re enjoying the music.* :) :) We do not use a drummer or backtrack to keep us "together" with our completely different harp parts. Q. Why are you *SO intense* when you are playing? A. We are "into/feeling" the music! *It takes a LOT of work, concentration, and intensity to play our harp duet arrangement the way that we do* with Kennerly backward, balancing on one leg, while Camille operates the 7 pedals (each with 3 possible positions) for the key changes for *both* of our completely different harp parts, plus rapping, kicking, switching sides, etc., but we had a blast inventing new ways to play the harp! Q. What do the *pedals* do? A. The pedals *change the pitch of the strings.* There are 7 pedals, one for each note of the C scale. Every one of our 47 strings can be three different pitches (flat, natural, sharp) because we move each pedal into 3 different levels *while we are playing.* For this arrangement Camille was operating the pedals for BOTH of our completely different harps parts while Kennerly was playing backwards standing on one leg. :) :) Q. How do you *make your videos* and get the sound? A. This is a self-made music video. We do not record in a studio. We are always really playing (and singing when we sing) when we film, that is how we are able to stay together. :) :) Our videos are self-made samples of music we arranged ourselves for concert performances. Our videos are only our 2 harp parts - but No backing track, No Karaoke, No loops, No harp overlays, No studio, No crew, No director, No videographer, No producer, etc. - just the 2 of us doing everything ourselves! However, like anyone making a "music video," we do not use the sound we recorded through the phone held by our mom or our little camera. There is always too much ambient and environmental noise outdoors (wind, birds, people, dogs, planes, etc.) plus filming from different directions and distances. We record ourselves LIVE playing together (at the same time) in our living room and add that sound to the edited video footage. :) :) Q. Why so many *cuts?* A. This is our ONLY video like this. ONE is an intense, emotional, and disturbing song. We deliberately chose to show as much of possible of all the different sounds we were creating for reality and interest. We think it is still less unsettling than most video games as well as the original video. ;) ;) If it is too intense for you we have over 140 other videos for you to enjoy. Q. Do you play *other harps* and other styles of music? A. We also play smaller electric lever harps and smaller acoustic lever harps. We cross styles, genres, and decades from rock and metal to Celtic, Soundtrack, Classical, Sacred, Folk, original Nordic Fantasy songs, and more. We will continue to go where no harps have gone before with our radical duet harp revolution! If you are looking for a particular song, style, or genre, we have created playlists here: kzbin.infoplaylists Please listen with headphones Q. Can I see you *perform?* A. We do not make our living on KZbin. We are duet harpists in our "real" lives. www.harptwins.com/shows If you are interested in more info, you can also sign up for our *E-NEWSLETTER: **harptwins.com/newsletter* We also have live online concerts are available to our "HarpTwins Backstage" fan club tier: patreon.com/HarpTwins Our online home shows are interactive, comedic, we answer questions, and each home online concert has different songs. Q. Can I *purchase* your music? A. Our harp duets are available world-wide. The sound is superior to the compressed sound that KZbin gives us. We have released 8 physical CDs. The sound is superior to the compressed sound that KZbin allows us. *Autographed Albums* and Posters, Original Comic Books, T-shirts, Hats, and more: camilleandkennerly.bigcartel.com/products Streaming, download, and additional purchase links are under every video and on our channel "about" tab. as a musician myself, understanding how a harp works, and having listened to the whole piece, I have to say that this is an absolutely perfect rendition of metallica's "one". not only that, but these two performers have absolutely mastered every aspect of the harp. the harp is difficult enough to play as it is, but to simultaneously perform your half of the song, add percussion parts and control the harp pedals for BOTH parts, much less her own part, takes a level of skill that some people spend a lifetime acquiring. I say again, they have MASTERED the harp. what they did in this video is so complex and difficult to learn, there is no other word to describe it other than a true masterpiece in every sense of the word. this is absolutely an amazing work of art, and they should be extremely proud of the magic they have created. beautiful. absolutely beautiful

Wow, i can't believe that this video was uploaded five years ago and KZbin had recommend it to me just now. Even more surprising is that one of them had to play backwards. Even more crazy is that both of them had to syncronize while playing and changing the pitches of the harp. Girls if you read this i want to make you know that you had show more talent than the 80% of other youtubers in just six minutes. Also, you both are beautiful, which makes more pleasant see the video.

I just discovered you both 10 mins ago with One and both of you on One Harp, I am a muscian, I know from the heart, raw, intense and Love when I hear it, I can't stop crying I am so moved by your music, the beauty of each stroke your fingers make, and your both amazing on the outside, and the gaze of you two speaking minds, like being as One while playing. I fell in Love with twins many years ago, I understand your bond and hear and see it with this One video, omg, I'm just blown away, my buddy Shawn passed away a few years ago, he taught me alot of metallica and I never met a bigger fan who could play all their tracks and leads, he was amazing and I know he would be in tears too watching you too and I would have found out about you the first day you posted anything from metallica. Liked and Subscribed for Sure. Thank you ladies so much for your amazing talents and creativity and I'll see if I can get you in Toronto if your not booked this year. Much Love, Respect and Keep the Special Twin bond going that not many can truely understand 100%, you two are so unique I'm still crying, and this is only after hearing one song, think I will wait to hear video number two and treat these as christmas presents that came late in the mail so I can cherish each one before there is no more. I hope you have at least 12 videos so I hear real music at least once a month, the music today is so dark it has lost the Love. You both remind me of the twins, hugs Tamara & Tara, I miss you like Sun when cloudy days cover the Trees

Love how these brave, and so very talented young musicians are keeping a centuries old tradition alive and well by bringing it into the modern era without loosing any of its beauty. It’s making how these, and many other young professional musicians are making all string instruments popular again, like the 2 cellos (those guys are amazing, and definitely must do an album with these two ladies, it’s a match made in heaven), and so many others making the violin, bass, piano, along with other non-string instruments popular in modern culture, like the accordion, wind and reeds........for a time it looked as though there was no room for our beautiful classical instruments in our modern era, but thanks to the talents of so many, they all live again, in both the old and the new, and I couldn’t be happier! Music is my passion, every since I was a young boy (born wayyyyy back in 1968), I have absolutely adored all the classical instruments, and Classical Music itself. But throughout the 60s and 70s, it seemed as though it was dying out, an artform lost with the passage of time. But now we have an entirely new generation of incredibly talented musicians to bridge the gap between both the old and the new, making them as popular now as they were hundreds of years ago, I pray it continues forever, is I believe classical music will never die.

Last night we saw the harp twins live in concert and out of their two hours concert this song was one of the most entertaining and enjoyable besides hotel California and stairway to heaven. The fact that the have no back tracks, timing machines and that they have composed all their songs to Harp makes them truly amazing artists. At times in the concert they seemed to be angelic and a true gift from the heaven .

My goodness, the foot and fingertaps sound awesome. The ruins in the background so fitting to the song, they put alot of thought into the visuals as well as the music. I just found out I like harps. Glad I stumbled upon this, goes to show how versatile music is and that every piece can be transformed to express different emotions depending on who plays or sings it. Every music piece, every art piece for that matter, be that painting, architecture, etcis infused with soul from the artist for us to see, hear and feel. This is why art is universal and connects us all.

This was the first thing that i heard, and you had me me at "One". I had no idea that a harp had pedals on it. Its a fascinating instrument. Even on your electric harps its so interesting seeing you two change keys while playing; it is mind bending. You both have beautiful technique. The two of you are true composers. The way you ladies can take a piece of music and make it your own is remarkable. We play what we love; that said, you girls have great taste in music. I figure most harpist are traditionalist. Where have you two rogues studied?

You know what, James should invite you to play with them. One is a very emotional and disturbing song. The Chinese pianist Lang Lang's performance with Metallica is very creative, but yours is more! Hope to see you girls someday on Metallica world tours.

You wouldn't think that an instrument like a harp would work with a piece that was composed to covey such a sense of unease and melancholy, but this was hauntingly effective. It manages to retain the edge that the original song had, yet gives it a new tone that gives it an almost ethereal feel. Its like adding a piccolo flute to a wind ensemble.
