The movie they used was called "Johnny Get Your Gun". They basically picked up the rights to the movie to use in the video
@metalmark12147 ай бұрын
They mainly did it so they didn't have to pay royalties every time the video played.

I remember this movie. The nurse was contacting with Johnny by giving him hand job.
@jbird44787 ай бұрын
It's called "Johhny *got his* gun." The title is a play on a slogan used by the US army for recruiting soldiers for WWI, which was "Johnny, get your gun".

Yeah there’s no talking on the actual song, the audio track. The movie bits are only used in the video.

I remember watching the premier of this on MTV in 1989. Also remember Metallica say they would never do a music video, I guess their record label got to them. You can tell that the song was made around the movie "Johnny Got His Gun", which Metallica bought the rights to. For talking in the video, you could listen to the audio track that doesn't have movie clips intertwined in the song. The AJFA album, after it had been recorded had the bass turned down dramatically. I think they didn't want to be reminded about the loss of Cliff Burton. The is first album without Cliff on bass due to his death in a tour bus accident.

There are 3 sisters from Mexico called The Warning who have covered Metallica's Enter Sandman. There is a live version on their channel which I reckon even Metallica prefer! They are unbelievably good and are yet another all female Rock band you'll both love. I'm seeing them live in Cardiff next month!

Here’s one that might pique your interest! Enter Sandman cover by Voice of Baceprot , I know there’s a million covers of this, but the moment you see the band you’ll understand the sheer courage to get on stage to play music, let alone music like that. In the current political climate they probably couldn’t tour in this country, which shows how crazy our society is becoming!!!!

Love honest reactions. Not every group or every song is for everyone. I’m a big Metallica fan but I agree with Belle, prefer the studio version without the talking.

Never been a huge fan of metal but like every genre there are some songs that appeal and it's that way with Metallica although not this song lol. The one metal band I'd say I am a big fan of though is Nightwish with Lovebites and Ironbunny (sadly shortlived) as my next favourites.

I actually kind of agree with you guys on this!! In my opinion this is one of Metallica's top 3 songs of all time however I feel the music video spoils the song i much prefer listening to it without the video!!!
@dmwalker247 ай бұрын
Yeah, I bought the album and listened to the song long before I ever saw the video version. The video does add value to the overall message, but in terms of the music, I 100% prefer it without the dialog.

Sounds like Belle would be one of the fans back in the day who accused Metallica of selling out with this song. Bet she loves their deep cuts. That initial riff on the breakdown, though? THE riff? There had never been a tone or attack like that, ever. Legendary. Where’s the bass? Poor Jason. Class guy still after all they put him through.

I have to admit this doesn't hit like it did in the 80s. Probably why And Justice For All was the last Metallica album I bought, and the last metal album I bought! My buddy was on the Sub-pop singles club, where the label would send you a single every month. One month, he got a single from an unknown 3 piece, called Nirvana. Never listened to metal again. That is, until I discovered J-Rock!🤘😎🤘
