The song was based off of a Novel/movie called Johnny got his gun. It's about a soldier that was hit by a mortar shell on the last day of World War I. Left In hospital, with basically a fate worse than death. He lost his arms, legs, eyes, ears, mouth and nose. He's fully conscious but unable to communicate, and unable to tell the difference between a dream and the waking world.
@dux_bellorum28 күн бұрын
The song coupled with the movie is really a masterpiece! A perfect depiction of the horrors of war!

They wrote the song based off of the book. When they decided to make a music video (their first) they then found out there was a movie based off the book so they decided to used clips from the movie. They were going to pay on a per clip basis then found it was cheaper to buy rights to the entire film.

@yakume185129 күн бұрын
Let’s go Rob!!! There’s 2 guitarists in Metallica- James hetfield and Kirk Hammett. James is the rhythm guitarist and Kirk is the lead guitarist meaning Kirk played the cool guitar solo near the end (as for the rest of the guitar it’s a mixture of them both im not sure whose part is whose though). James hetfield is also the singer. Lars Ulrich is the drummer. During this time their bassist was Jason Newsted although interestingly I believe they muted his bass on every song of this album. So I don’t think this song has any bass although it was originally supposed to.
@FyreofShadow29 күн бұрын
IIRC, the bass tracks weren't muted entirely, but it was decreased to a level where you essentially couldn't hear it over the guitars. You might be able to catch a few weird noises in Dyers' Eve and Shortest Straw that are actually the bass, if you're paying attention!

@FandangoHoward27 күн бұрын
The bass on this album is basically just matching the rhythm guitars. Nothing especially crazy, to be honest. I never minded the mix, personally. The multi-tracked guitars just carry so much weight to me. Newstead is a damn good bassist, though fr. He's the architect of a ton of great bass lines for Metallica.
@cjonesufc27 күн бұрын
The mix is divisive, but it changed music at the time and I love the sound of the album. If anyone really wants the truth, however, go listen to “…and Justice for Jason”. He played his ads off on the album and Lars buried it.
@fernandomedeiros339327 күн бұрын
@@cjonesufc exactly. I personally don't like the lack of bass and the thin sounding drums, especially the bass drums. It did, however, set a trend in the years to come. Vinnie Paul had kind of the same sound on the early Pantera albums.

Love the reaction. 🤘 This song is truly a masterpiece and your reaction was epic. HOWEVER… I really think you need to give Master of Puppets another chance if you didn’t listen to it all the way thru. Away from the camera, just lay down, close your eyes with your best headphones on and listen to it for yourself. You need the lyrics AND need to keep in mind/understand the STORY of the song: the first part is A DRUG talking to an addict. The drug itself speaking in the first person… tempting, luring, promising. Then you have the GORGEOUS, almost operatic breakdown representing “the high” and the come-down and the addict himself challenging the drug about not keeping its promises. It’s absolutely EPIC. Please please please give it another try. Not for any of us but for you. It’s powerful and poignant. Keep rockin and rollin! Peace!

There are two songs I'd like to hear your opinions on, after this song. Hangar 18, by Megadeth; and Spit Out the Bone, by Metallica.
