LYRICS
Take a deep, waking breath
Hope the blood arrives
Burn my eyes with the sun
And pretend I’m alive
It never will appear
Strong as past desire
Light warming disappears
Like a cold, dead fire
Should I fall, I fall down
Would you come, you come round
Wake me
Caught in the spell, I’m dreaming
Wake me
Day after day, repeating
Wake me
Sleepwalk my life away
Stagger on through the fog
In the midnight sun
Shouting out at the shapes
Of the nameless no ones
All isn’t what it seems
Cannot comprehend it
Captive inside a dream
Where the dawn won’t end it
Should I fall, I fall down
Would you come, you come round
Wake me
Caught in the spell, I’m dreaming
Wake me
Day after day, repeating
Wake me
Sleepwalk my life away
Should I fall, I fall down
Would you come, you come round
Wake me
Caught in the spell, I’m dreaming
Wake me
Day after day repeating
Wake me
Sleepwalk my life away

With no disrespect to Jason, I think rob was the best thing to happen to them, the albums rob has been a part of, brought them back to the band the “so called” fans complain about “not hearing” classics that made it back to the set lists I remember watching some kind of monster and instantly liked robs audition clips. Wanted to go for battery out the gate! Every album he’s been a part of is increasingly stronger, the new album proves it further

Man don't you guys just love when your favorite band releases a new album? It feels like Christmas right now 🔥🔥🔥 I wasn't expecting 2.5k likes but thank you guys so much. Also, 72 seasons truly is a great sentimental album. Too far gone?, Room of mirrors, Sleepwalk my life away, You must burn! and Inamorata are my everyday favorites.

As a shift worker, I connect with this song so much in my own interpretation. Getting woken up with a headache from the midday heat, stumbling to the coffee machine with my eyes half closed feeling the walls for direction. Sitting in the blinding sun with my coffee trying to get some vitamin D before I go to work. Starting my shift as the sun goes down and finishing in the pitch black, you have the highway to yourself, the gym to yourself, 24hr grocery store to yourself. Friends stop calling eventually as you work nights. It feels like you have the world to yourself but you're alone. It really feels like one big sleepwalk. My favourite song on the album so far.

@archangel5627

James’ vocals have been really good whether live or in the studio for the past several years because his vocals have finally matured. With that being said, there was a period during the late 90s and early 2000s when James’ vocals weren’t that good and that’s because he blew his voice out during the Reload era and it took a long time for them to come back. Since Hardwired to Self Destruct I feel as though his vocals have been on fire and this album showcases some really excellent vocal work by James. Not only does he sound great but the entire band sounds really tight.

You must be deaf Metallica are just bad now they will never be a thrash Metal band ever again. Hetfield is just an old man trying to sound like he did in the 80s but failing miserably. His marriage has failed he's become an alcoholic again and he's trying to hold onto his band that sounds like a soft rock band that plays at weddings. And calling him Pappa het just makes him more of an old man that is getting closer to living in a retirement home.

Perfect analysis, I thought I had heard this before. This album is like the leftovers from the black album onwards. I have just wasted hundreds of $ buying all the different variants. Now i don't even want to put them on my turntable or look at them. eBay, here I come. All you soft rock fans can grab a bargain! Clearly my expectations were far too high, should have known better. Did BOB ROCK secretly help produce this?

@@308dad8 I've read up all the lyrics to these songs, and James clearly is writing some very personal lyrics in a number of these tracks. Also, looking back at the history of metal, not all of it is filled with angst and hate. Punk had a lot of hate and angst, but not all metal (even then, not all punk is angst and hate either). I'm reading a lot from fans saying these songs are helping them through their own angst and troubled times, so Metallica is doing something right with this album. I also watched them live on Kimmel, James has enough wind left. Alternative? Alternative sounds a lot different now than it did in the 1990s when I was growing up.

@@OptimusX1972 Course there's some studio magic. But even live nowadays he's at a far higher level than he has been for years. His voice can break and falter at times live, but so it goes. For a long time it seemed he'd lost the attack in his voice, the weight and gravel and snarl. I guess he needed rest and some instruction (or whatever it was), because he has those qualities back - even when singing live. It's not just that, though. On Load/Reload, both of which I love, James sounded superb partly because he tapped into an expressive way of singing that the 80s songs didn't even allow for. He's brilliant on those two albums, a genuinely fine, interesting vocalist. The thrashier stuff doesn't let him do that. 72 Seasons has more of a Load vibe, but has some thrashier elements too (instrumentally). This encourages James to go bluesy as on Load, but the heavier instrumentation means he gets more aggressive at times, too. Great combo for him. (None of this is to take from James' late 80s, AJFA voice, which was fearsome, spine-tingling stuff. Really ferocious, but with control too. He doesn't do that now, but how he sounds today is arguably the best since then... with Load era vying for the top spot, too. Though like I said I prefer this perhaps because of the extra aggression where needed...) Ramble over!
