Thing is, James CAN still sing like he used to, but he was advised that if he kept singing that way, he'd permanently damage his vocal chords to the point of where he wouldn't be able to sing like at all. So he chooses to sing a bit differently to allow him to keep going on. Otherwise we'd get maybe another year of James singing and then that would be it. But you can hear him now and then on some notes where he just can't help himself and goes all 1989 on it.

The intro tape that they played was the solo Kirk plays at the beginning of the song but reversed and with a shit ton of reverb added

Oh man, I was at the Leeds Festival in 2008 for the first live performance of this song and I lost my shit when I heard it then and it still kicks ass.

The intro was actually nothing but the actual intro of the song reversed like on blackened. It sounded amazing.

I agree with you on James voice. He has blew his voice around 4-5 times though so the fact he can still sing to that standard baffles me lol. The most noticeable change in his voice was '91-'93. That black album tour really hurt his voice. Barking like that with something like 270 shows in a year. Damn. RESPECT \m/

hey chainsaw, just letting you know from one super metallica fan to another, that james vocal note that you said sound "off" is (5:39) is something he does more recently in their performances, ive seen him sing it like that in 2015 and 2013, he still sounds like he did performing this live so give mr james some extra credit, he hasent slowed down vocally that much since the 2008 D.M album came out, i actually like him more in 2017

unreal how good the drums sound in the European part, Metallica sounds so massive, ManUNkind as well sounded such a huge song. Also the day that never comes is such a french song, don't ask me what I mean about that, because i can't explain it ha. As far as guitars go, yes it's the same one, they never change them,ever since they got endorsed by ESP back in the 80's they chose 3 guitars of the same kind and split them into the 3 rigs they have, but there are some guitars that travel with them no matter where they go (kirk's mummy guitar is one example, even though he has 2 more of that kind as well, the "special one" usually travels with him, when it doesn't, the special white ouija does, or the special caution hot, so does Jamz'z white snakebyte,or the Iron Cross, though not so much since he changed pickup's to the hetset and got the white cross guitars )

Awesome performance. There was another performance right before this one where Kirk absolutely butchered the timing in the solo. This performance was flawless for the most part though. Love that they're adding intro tapes to old songs. They also added an intro tape to The Unforgiven this year which is amazing (should have been on the studio recording btw) and the Halo on fire live intro which is also amazing. Hopefully they upload Leper Messiah from one of the recent shows. Also, love to see them play more songs from Death Magnetic. The Unforgiven 3 would be a dream come true. And yeah, James has had that guitar (Ken Lawrence Explorer) or at least one very similar for a very long time. First time i saw him play it was in the S&M concert.
