The balls to do things like orchestral on No Leaf Clover, and to end this song with that haunting sung melody, all the while feeling the pressure to deliver classics while the world was calling them sellouts. Say what you want but Metallica was true metal to the core, more defining of the philosophy than most people dare to admit. It would have been far simpler to keep writing fast songs and be called gods by the masses. Instead they kept following their instinct wherever it took them. Today you see a bold mother* do something daring against all odds and you call it "metal". We have Metallica to thank for that.

90s Metallica was really a heavy southern rock band. Its really pretty good stuff.
@AdoreYouInAshXI4 жыл бұрын
Everyone disagrees with me but they were better in the 90s than all the thrash shit they put out. Especially Kill Em All. That album blew ass. If it hadn't been released at the right time then Metallica would have never been noticed probably.

I fucking love this band. They're always trying new things to incorporate into their landmark sound. Working with Marianne Faithful or Lady Gaga or the SFSO or Mikey Cyrus or Lou Reed. Okay, maybe every now and then something is a bit of a stumble, but for the most part it works. I'm sure there were critics in 1996 saying adding a female vocalist - and an "old" one at that - was a mistake, but who's saying that now? This song still hits hard in 2022. Metallica forever!
