4 years late on the reply but... Actually, the last recording Jason ever did with Metallica was "- Human" in S&M. The bass you hear in "I Disappear" was Bob Rock's. Jason just shot the music video (his last with the band).

This maybe a "cool story bro" kinda thing but here we go. One Friday in May in 2000 I came home from school and put on the Kerrang! channel. There was this video of these 4 guys playing this really groovy metal on top of this giant rock in the middle of the desert. Anyway there was this dude dressed all in black, wearing a black beanie and playing this really big guitar. I had no idea what a bass was at the time you see. I said to myself "I want to be like that guy" That guy was Jason. That summer I worked 2 jobs so I could buy my first bass which was a Black Aria STB P-Bass copy (which I still own all though it's been heavily modified) Some 19 years later I'm still playing bass and Jason is still a massive influence on my playing. It's ironic how it was the last Metallica video he appeared in and the last Metallica song he played on. Jason, if you ever see this, Thank you man.

ScentlessApprentice7 Because those of who grew up with Metallica consider it, well, not really Metallica. Comparatively, it's a quite a departure from the old school. Many of us consider 'Justice' to be the true, last and final Metallica album. Even the 'Black' album had die hard fans scratching their head. But, that album put them solidly into the popular mainstream. After that, it was downhill until they re emerged in the 2000's, as the "new" Metallica. While I do, on rare occasion, listen to their new stuff, I've never purchased any of it and likely never will.
