Damn, this brings back memories! They absolutely blew me away that day. And yes, Venom could not match their energy! Venom wasn't bad, but Metallica were just on FIRE!

Now for all the cliff Burton gear you can find that out on Google, although one thing that is never talked about is I read somewhere to get the Anastasia lead bass tone he installed a single coil bridge pickup from a strat real close to the neck on his Rickenbacker bass wired to a toggle switch so when he wanted that tone he simply flicked the switch, now something else I've seen in pics his he sometimes used a esp bass black not sure what model,so that should help u get close to cliffs tone

He used Peavey and Randall bass heads into 2x18 Sunn cabs in the early years (1982-early 1985), then he switched over to the awesome Mesa D180 bass head into Mesa 4x12 cabs in 1985 up til he passed. I think he also had an Ampeg rig but preferred the Mesa overall.

@@benphipps3496Cliff used Rickenbacker, Alembic, and Aria basses. His lead tone came primarily from a tube screamer and a Morley PWB early on, then the distortion channel on his Mesa head in combination with the Morley PWB in his last year. He also used types of different delay, reverb, and octave effects. It's sad to think but I actually think he perfected his lead tone in the last months of his life. His solos became much more technical and beautiful, letting his notes sing more instead of wildly shredding away. Its the worst shame he couldn't explore his craft more. Cliff was just amazing.
