For me , this isn't the correct matchup. R.I.P. is slightly more progressive due to it being done a few years later, it has certain advantages in production and, well progression in the musicians themselves. It's M.O.P. vs Peace sells, and it should be R.I.P. vs And justice for all ( the enhanced bass version, if it's the original mix, it loses coming out of the gate) now you have a fair fight, A.J.F.A. can hold its own in every capicity against R.I.P., I still prefer Rust, but hell, the more I get into the fixed bass version of Justice, it starts moving way up the list in the Masterpiece group.

Six out of five for Marty’s solo on symphony was very appropriate. For a “hit” song frequently played on radio not only did Marty play a very catchy and memorable melodic solo but it was very unique and different from anything you would normally hear especially during that era. Plus on top of all that it’s pretty technical once you try picking it apart and learning it. Marty checked every box a lead player could hope for on symphony

is it or me or both band somehow "compete" each other every time they release new album? most recognized one obviously is mechanix vs four horsemen. lets take example from another songs and album. peace sells features bass intro and released sometime after rtl. rust in peace album was considered as magnum opus and it was released after mop and ajfa. in rust in peace, there was a song that features unique bassline through the song and a year later tallica released the god that failed although the simiiarty only limited to the bassline. later then in 90's both band were considered as sell out because they both released few albums that considered as less metal at that time and coincidentally they both lowered the tuning to E flat in mid 90's. the list could go on but pretty much they did compete each other years and years later even their latest album was released in same year (coincidence?)
@Eris_Norregard4 жыл бұрын
Definitely not a coincidence. :D I mean, Megadeth literally started off as a revenge-band after Dave being exiled from Metallica. They were always competing, or at least during 80's and 90's. I think they signed a truce after that. :D

I can´t belive i have to say this, but both this songs are very underrated in todays fans, probably due to their overplaying. They´re both monsters of songs, also, both marked what the bands where doing at the time. Sandman has one, if not the best intro construction Metallica ever did, great lyrics and by far one of Het´s better vocal perfomance and one of the best wah solos ever; Symphony rellies more in te power of his main riff, it was something surely different for Megadeth at the time, and that solo man, god that solo. If i have to choose i go with Sandman, is one of the best musical pieces of Metallica and definetly influenced heavy music much more than Symphony. Again, people should show more respect to this songs, overplaying is a non factor to talk objectivly.

Symphony of Destruction at least has a good solo and the riff is just so impactful. Enter Sandman is just so bland by comparison. Both are kind of slow and boring compared to both earlier and later songs by each band but Symphony is at least fun for me.
