Justice is my favorite. As for many, expressed in every forum. The tone crushes as do the drums. The reverb makes up for the lack of bass on a good system and with songs like Blackened, One, Dyers Eve, etc. Definitely Metallica at their heaviest point.

Once I heard that album I bought their first four albums. My gateway album to Metal was Paranoid by Black Sabbath, it was super cheap like $5 and I heard that it was a good album so I checked it out. Man, to each his own, but it's so cliche for me to listen to Metallica fans rank the albums because you know St. Anger will be very last and the Load and Reload albums will be just above it. I'm like just about everyone in that upon the first several listens (maybe a hundred listens, lol!), I hated the album and thought it was trash! But despite the crappy snare, it is a pretty good, though uneven, album! The first half is pretty damned good! Until you get to Invisible Kid, lol! Shoot Me Again and The Unnamed Feeling are AWESOME! Some Kinda Monster, Frantic, and St. Anger are all pretty great too! Personally I'd rather listen this album any day before I'd listen to Kill Em All or Hardwired To Self-Destruct. The band took a gigantic leap in quality from their debut to Ride The Lightning. Load was a great album! One of my favorites! After the black album and Master Of Puppets of course. And maybe Ride The Lightning too. Definitely top 5 for me though!

I am an old school fan since the release of "Ride the Lightning" but as Metallica grew, evolved and changed so did I with them. I understood and embrace the changes. Sure their first three albums are untouchable however, if Metallica tried to go back and repeat these classics they would get criticized for repeating the same formula over and over again. Master : Greatest album in metal history - the only fault is that Ride sounds so much better. I was hoping that would've improved with the remaster but sadly none of the remasters (especially Justice) did much to improve the sound quality of any of the albums. Ride's guitars just sound do much thicker and have so much more power to them. James' guitar sounds way too compressed on Master.

Hey, man loved this video, and I really liked the way you explain things, but i have to say. I really disagree. 10. Kill em all. My first from bottom would be kill em all. Lyrics are simple, stupid and written by a teeneager with zero idea of what he's doing. Drums are not interesting. The thing that peole say about this album is that is really aggressive and yes, it is. But I dont think that playing that E as fast as posible is that of a big deal. Only really good thing is Cliff, but still, he feels inmature. 09. St anger Then it would be st. Anger wich I can't judge as hard as many would. For me it sounds like a band falling apart, that's full of anger and recovering at the same time. 08. Reload. It's kinda lame for the most part. The heavy hard rock songs just sound like they have no actual porpose, and the other different, darker songs just dont do enough to compensate. 07. Hardwired... To self destruct. It just feels that they were'nt really inspired durimg the creation of the album it sounds like they just said "it's been eight years, lets make another one" and you can tell when you lisent to the solos and the drumming that this may be tha case. But i have to say. Songs like Hardwired, Moth Into Flame, Atlas, Rise, Halll On Fire, and Spit Out The Bone that they can still do it, so i have faith on the next one. 06. Load. It's a good slow, groovy album, with really interesting lyrics. It souds really experimental, dark, and creative. With amazing Songs like Bleeding Me, that sweet melancholic Hero Of The Day, and the masterpiece that The Outlaw Torn is. 05. Deat Magnetic. It's just a really good album. It lacks a little aggressivity, some fast riffs, and a strong sounding production. The guitars sounds so weak, and the drums sound like cardboard boxes. So that's a really low point on this one. 04. Ride The Lightning. A big jump from the inexpert band that was on kill em all. Now they have way better lyrics, a lot more creativity. And the sweetest Kirk Hammet solos. It falls just a litle on Escape, and it does'nt sound like the best they can do, but with such a good album like this, it's just a promise for something better. 03. ...And Justice For All. The "let's fucking do it" album, nothing boy excellent, heavy, interesting, well crafted songs. It may be just a little over the top, but still amazing. A low point on this one is the production aspect, but doesn't ruin the experience. 02. Metallica. The meaning of perfection. An excellent album with a clear porpose, that gets you to an excellent sounding experience, through some simple, short, and great songs. 01. Master Of Puppets. It's Master of puppets, man.

I honestly recommend every Metallica fan listen to Lulu in its entirety at least once. I feel the well around this album has been poisoned based on the idea alone, if you actually listen to it you can hear the fun that Lou Reed and the band are having making these fucked up macabre pieces. Not saying it doesn’t have its ill conceived and boring moments here and there but at least it feels like the band is trying something new instead of being on autopilot(like their last 2 albums basically). It’s neither Lou nor Metallica’s best but it’s a lot better and interesting than St Anger at least

10. St. Anger - [F] (Need I say more?) 9. Death Magnetic - [D] (Terrible production, half the album is forgettable) 8. Hardwired... to Self Destruct [C] (An improvement from DM, but again, half the album is forgettable) 7. Reload [C] (There are good to great tracks, but the filler tracks are just really not good) 6. Load [C+] (Same as Reload but less filler on this album I feel) 5. ...And Justice for All [B-] (Some real killer tracks on this, but there's a few I just really can't get into like Sorrow and Beholder... and poor Jason) 4. The Black Album [B+] (Great production, only thing holding this album from ranking higher for me are the overplayed radio singles... great album nevertheless) 3. Master of Puppets [A-] (Absolute masterpiece with only two songs I don't typically listen to often being Messiah and Damage) 2. Kill 'Em All [A+] (Despite the production, it's an almost perfect thrash album, would have preferred if it just ended with S&D since I really don't care for Militia but still an amazing record) 1. Ride the Lightning [A+] (This album is just fucking incredible man, only song I typically skip is Escape but everything else is some of the best work Metallica did back in the '80s)

@@ScoopedMids Same, they need to try something new, I don't know something to reignite the spark, Imagine an album full of songs as good as spit out the bone

How can you hate on Nothing else matters? What the fuck dude? That song is the gateway into Metallica,it goes on to stuff like The Unforgiven , Enter Sandman and Master of puppets You start with that order and you've probably made a new Metallica fan

I dont like reload and load but how do you not like fuel that's the only good song from that era of metallica. And the memory remains is an alright song and I really like unforgiven 2 so reload definently way better than load but not by much

Hardwired is barely over an hour? No offense but how can you do album reviews if you're not even listening to the albums? Hardwired is 78 min long. That is well over an hour. Too much over. But this is true of every Metallica album since Load which coincides with the release of the compact disc that fits 80 min of space. Metallica purposefully tries to fit as much music in an eighty minute space on all of their releases since Load. Which is the main criticism of all their music since: their albums are just too long.

Megadeth’s Mechanix is more like Metallica’s The Four Horsemen, not rlly like Jump In The Fire

I'd actually probably place Justice as one of my least favorites. Production is an obvious fault. The lack of bass, the thin, lifeless, unsupported guitars, and the DRUMS. The drums are credited as having a "strong" sound, when really they're some of the most thin, papery drums I've heard from Metallica. A tom shouldn't sound like you're smacking a pancake, and the kick shouldn't die out IMMEDIATELY after it's hit. But, the album also painfully bloated. Most of the songs would GREATLY benefit from being cut down by a couple minutes. Also, a few of the songs just aren't that good. Eye of the Beholder is one of the draggiest songs Metallica made in their classic era, Harvester is seen as a classic song even though it doesn't do ANYTHING interesting, TLITD is way too long for what it actually does (actually, most of the songs don't really go anywhere or do anything special). The songs also have some of the most awkward compositions I've ever heard in Metallica's catalogue. The whole thing is just janky and boring to me. The lyrics and some of the individual riffs are good, sure, but those can only take a song so far.

I was listening to the Metallica Podcast and The Black Album was a reaction to Justice, James talked about how when they were playing songs like Justice and Frayed Ends the crowd were looking up at the rafters, at the floor, at each other. They were bored with how long the songs were droning. Going into The Black Album they wanted to make shorter, catchier songs you could really jump around and dance to. They realized just how bad the sound and overall production was and reluctantly let Bob Rock bring out their full potential and capture their raw energy they put into live performances and translate that to vinyl
