Hearing James talk about purpose and vulnerability is clearly speaking to me. I’m blessed my favorite band since ever is still totally in sync with me, my life and my love for heavy music. "Being of service. Helping people through their darkness. My flashlight works, sometimes it doesn't... and being able to say that out loud. It might be selfish, but it helps me stay grounded, and if it connects with someone else, then I'm serving my purpose." That hit me really hard. Much love to James, and to the rest of the band that quite literally defined my life.

It's incredible how he has improved physically in recent years. He came to have a lot of weight, quite long hair and not well combed, many wrinkles on his face. And the sad eyes... . He suffered a lot. Getting away from the damn alcohol and other meds/drugs and having good people by his side, and making jokes has been a life saver.

I remember being staggered when I first saw him looking like what you described. I had taken a bit of a break from checking in on Metallica there for a little while and then when I did again(right about the time S&M 2 was out) I couldn’t believe how much he had suddenly aged and didn’t look well. I was so used to the fit and friendly looking guy of the previous decade+ So glad he’s back to health again. He’s looking trimmed up in this interview and the lucidity has returned. He must have some amazing support in his life to be able to get back on track the way he does.

Can't help but admire this man's honesty. As he said, He's living his dream, one that many never achieve, but he retains his humanity and all the flaws that go along with that, despite such commercial success. In his later years, he's found a way to communicate that to people, without embarrassment. or feeling 'weak' for doing so. Clearly a tough sort of guy, but an inspiring person.

I’ve been super lucky over the years to see some unreal shows live ! seen Prong , Sepultura and Pantera in 1994. Such a Killer Show ! ( met Vinnie Paul in 2012 and had him autograph my ‘94 Far Beyond Driven tour concert shirt…18 years later 😄 Vin was really cool, friendly and funny ! 😊 also got to see Black Sabbath in 1999 at Ozzfest , and Ozzy solo 4x and tons more bands pretty much anyone you can list over the years, most of them 3 or 4 times . I have really been enjoying going deeper down the 🪣Buckethead 🤖 rabbit hole ( as I write this I think he’s at 500.+ !!! Albums! Bucketheadland Pikes series + about 80 or more other projects ?) it’s the greatest thing I’ve come across in the last 10 years or so ( maybe ever?) … that dude is so insanely good on a guitar! 🎸 I’ve played for 37 years myself at this point. To Anyone who has never heard his solo music.. You Absolutely Need To ! I can’t even begin to explain how incredible he is… Bucket 🪣 will quite literally Blow Your Mind ! an entire universe of different styles… and he can play them All… Extremely well!🎸🤟🏻🤯🤟🏻 Even after at least 10 years straight of playing his music every day… I am only continually even more amazed all the time at his skill on the 🎸axe 🪓 !

This man. Listening to him is so therapeutic. He’s been through so much in his life, and even though I haven’t had a hard life, I’ve had moments of sadness and listening to Metallica has always helped. Hetfield’s lyrics just resonate.

Everything I've been through in my life good, bad and indifferent James Hetfield has been in my ears to help me along. I am forever grateful for him (and the rest of the band) for that. James I love you as a musician and a person who is very open with your demons as I struggle with as well.

Album is meh. I mean, it's impressive Metallica can still make music and tour stadiums at their advanced age but this album is nothing memorable compared to old works. It's just a money maker to cash in with new generation. They are millionaires from royalties from past works.

Respect James and the rest of the band so much. I couldn’t imagine the pressure on these guys for the last decades, they’ve dealt with it admirably and openly. I enjoy seeing their growth as people and as a band. Just my two cents worth. Even if they never played another note, I couldn’t be more thankful for everything.

This man will always be an inspiration to me. His openness and fight to keep on going amidst the world of fame and a kind of unspoken pressure is phenomenal. To some it looks like a dream life, but I can't imagine how incredibly hard it is to keep your shit together in this industry for over 40 years! I'm so grateful for the band, but especially James' resilience. We love you James \m/

As a musician and for many years that you've been doing it I give you so much credit that you've been through I'm a very big fan of you and your band you have the most awesome voice ever I am 58 years old and been a fan since day one music was always a therapy for me if it was in a car or your house wherever if I was in that dark place listening to music made me feel better I know what it feels like cuz I've been through depression and mental illness and having anxiety and panic attacks through my life and listening to your music always just took that darkness away and I thank you so much and thumbs up to you that you went and got your stuff together it's not easy especially you as a very big entertainer especially being around a million people and traveling all the time that's got to be very stressful I mean it sounds like fun but when you've been doing it for as many as years of you guys been doing it I really don't know how it is but I thank you and just keep positive and stay out of darkness because you are one badass musician you have a very beautiful gift I wish you the best and I will always be listening to you till the day that I die thank you for being you 👍✌️🎶🎤💯

So now I know why the riffs sound raw, and lively, and youthful. It was the OGV. I knew it, I just knew that he was using the original. MAN THAT IS SO BAD ASS. LIKE SUPER wicked to just, pickup the original and just play it again. The history and the sound is so good. A lot of us are scared James, but we are fucking proud of you indeed. Hit the nail right on the head man. Be proud of what you have done, and came out with. So good man, we're proud of the band, and the music and everything. Now go kick some ass.

This group is so amazing. To be as successful as they are, but to remain as humble as they all seem to be. The talent they all individually bring to the table, as well as the love they clearly have for each other continues to blow my mind. I got a little worried during COVID that they might start walking away from the band but when I considered how far they’d all come, I knew that the bond they had as individuals and as importantly as band members, I felt pretty sure they would continue on together. Thank you guys for all the good you’ve brought into this world, and the positive feelings you brought to all of us as your fans. Love this album.

I grew up with James and Metallica, and they have meant so much to me over the years. It felt like they left me after St. Anger was released and it became a void in my life until Hardwired which was when I started to reconnect with them again. And now with 72 seasons I feel like they have fully returned and I can truly embrace them again. It is almost like a long lost friend has returned. No idea if any of this would make sense to anyone but myself but my love for Metallica has never been stronger. 72 seasons is the album I have been waiting for for so long (over 23 years), I thought it would never happen but here we are! To me this is one of their absolute BEST albums ever!

James is such a legend! To be able to confront your demons time after time and to admit that you need help makes him such a good role model and blows away the stigma that men shouldn't show their weaknesses and admit their short-comings.
