You see Kirk walks into a gig, night after night, knowing he has 15 really difficult pieces of guitar to play in front of 50'000 people, and if he even makes the smallest error it will go viral - and he doesn't give a shit. He's relaxed as fuck. That's what being a true professional is all about. All your KZbin guitarists can nail the solo if you give them a pressure free environment, and 2-3 takes to get it perfect, but they'd absolutely melt if they had to do it live, on tour, night after night.

You know, I just watched Metallica playing Battery with Dave Lombardo on drums and it was great, but there's something about Lars (probably playing it with the band for over 34 years now) that just gels. It's like the rest of the band just kinda conforms to Lars' idiosyncrasies and it's magic.

I can't quite 100% agree with you on Kirk's solos. I mean, don't get me wrong, he's an amazing guitarist, and his solos on the records are fucking great! But since the band more often than not plays the songs, especially this one, super fast live, compared to the album version, Kirk seems to have trouble placing each individual note in there somewhere. I never noticed this when I saw them live, but on video, especially with today's recording quality, it's pretty hard to miss, imho.

I'm actually surprised, I think this is probably the best performance of Battery that I've seen Lars do in years. Not a whole lot of tempo change overall, you can mostly hear his kicks are a bit more in time, and on the whole it didn't feel like he was struggling too hard to keep it together. I dunno what he's doing different nowadays, but he needs to keep doing it. Of course, he's not the same drummer he was thirty years ago, but I think maybe he's finally realized that, and has decided to stop trying to be. It sounds good.

On the end of several measures, James slides into 3-4 different chords, timing the transitions perfectly, while singing. Incredible!!
