Agree. I dont know if I am in minority here, but I always appreciated more Kai Hansen talent. Best Helloween heritage after his departure were Gamma Ray albums. Helloween was ok with Deris but real talent and outstanding music was in the Gamma Ray side (also I liked much more Scheepers and Hansen voice than Deris).

I grew up with Helloween and I thought they were the best in this genre. then I discovered Gamma Ray. Not discovered, I was already familiar but I took a deep dive into their discography and found out compared to them Helloween is a bunch of kids having fun in kindergarten. well, helloween is helloween but Gamma take themselves much more seriously, their music is far less cheesy and far more epic. and lyricwise they are the most red-pilled band on the planet. I mean they literally have a song about Plato's "Allegory of the cave"

Overall, Helloween really has a much more consistently good catalog of albums than many people realize. Sure, Keeper ! and 2 are legendary, but once Andi Deris took his place behind the microphone, it has been one solid release after another. "Better Than Raw" and "The Dark Ride" are particular favorites of mine, and the brand new album with the full reunion lineup is just amazing.

Great video as always! I first found Walls of Jericho on cassette back in 1988 as a 15 year old and was instantly blown the F away by it. Markus Grosskopf should get a special mention for being one of the best bass players in all metal. Fluid, melodic and always adding some spice to their songs. He's great. Anyhow, I quickly tracked down Keeper Part 2 a month or two later and obviously also blown away. I would say that all Helloween in the 1980s is mandatory. They also have a rare accomplishment: a live release that is awesome. I Want Out Live (aka Live in the UK) captures this lineup at the best with lots of funny stage banter as well. They disappeared off my radar after the 80s because many European metal bands lost their stateside distribution. I didn't hear Pink Bubbles or Chameleon for several years after their release. Pink Bubble is just the sound of a band clueless about what they wanted to do. However, I am one of those defenders of Chameleon. Granted, it's not a Helloween by the numbers album, but there's great songs plus Kiske's singing is outstanding throughout. If you go into it knowing it's an oddity in their discography, it'll probably sound better. Although I somewhat enjoy Master of the Rings, I just never got into Andi Deris' trip. He's competent but it just didn't do much for me. Master, incidentally, came out with a great 9 song bonus disc with cover songs and other fun stuff that is worth tracking down. I liked the bonus disc better than the actual album. After Master, I honestly just tuned out of the Helloween thing. I heard albums but I just couldn't really connect with them. That said, I really am curious to hear the latest one with Kiske and Hansen back on board. What I saw in this video makes me wonder if a triple vocalist approach might be the secret sauce for the band. Hopefully they will tour for it and I'll finally get to check them out live!

My favorite albums are (in order of preference) 1. Walls of Jericho/ Helloween (2021 album) 2. Straight out of hell 3. Gambling with the devil (my favorite with Andi Deris) 4. My God given right 5. I've heard the name but never sat down to listen until my boyfriend showed me Skyfall video. I fell in love with the sound, the concept and I've been collecting their albums since then. And I personally believe that Markus Grosskopf should get more credit for being an amazing bass player and songwriter, also Sascha has so many feelings and emotions expressed by his lyrics also deserves credit. My first ever concert was Anthrax, Exodus, & Helloween on the Headbanger’s Ball tour in 1989. It was their Keeper of the 7 Keys tour. I was mainly there for Anthrax but I loved Helloween at the time from their awesome I Want Out video & song, but the thrash fans mostly were not & Helloween got booed, which I thought was dumb. Still though, they put on a great show & did I Want Out which made me happy. I remember talking to Warrel Dane about a newer Helloween album & he asked if it’s happy music. I laughed & said, yeah, it kind of was. Surprising that both Running Wild & Helloween came from Hamburg. Having been to Hamburg on the Running Wild Victory tour, I caught a second concert from Running Wild (after Osnabruck opening night when I met them) in Hamburg & the fans there weren’t 1/100th as amped as Osnabruck. Maybe they’re used to them & it’s not a big deal. But there’s not much in Hamburg other than a huge knight statue, a sex museum, and the Reeperbahn where prostitutes line a nearby street; every 20’ was another one. You walk down the street, pick your prostitute (assuming you’re single. I was with an ex) , & go off to your hotel where a police station is nearby. All legal. It was an interesting trip!

Probably gonna get a lot of hate for this, but here's my discography ranking (mind you, albums being rated low doesn't mean I hate the album, Helloween is my favourite band of all time and I don't think they have a bad album, just less excellent ones): 1. The Time of the Oath - my introduction to the band, absolutely amazing, Mission Motherland, title track and Before the War stand out, as well as Forever and One, which was, incidentally, my first Helloween song ever 2. Helloween - all 3 singers together, it's a dream come true, Skyfall is the best song of 2021 period, I also count Pumpkins United as part of this, which was mindblowing to me when it came out 3. Straight Out of Hell - so melodic, so powerful, so awesome, especially the title track and Burning Sun 4. The Dark Ride - the title track is top 5 Helloween songs for me, the whole album is just a little bit less excellent than the 3 above 5. Keeper of the Seven Keys: Part II - EAGLE FLY FREE!!!! 6. Keeper of the Seven Keys: the Legacy - King for a 1000 years and Occasion Avenue, nuff said 7. 7 Sinners - so heavy and amazing, hard to not like it 8. Keeper of the Seven Keys: Part I - very good, very pure 9. Walls of Jericho - this includes the EP and Judas; How Many Tears is just a ridiculously powerful and heavy song 10. Gambling with the Devil - The Saints is still a banger to listen to at full volume, as is Dreambound 11. Better Than Raw - I like heavy, but it's not the best Helloween heavy album 12. Pink Bubbles Go Ape - I don't view it as a joke album as most people seem to, but rather as a very transparent commentary on society, just look at Shit and Lobster, Kids of the Century or Mankind 13. Rabbit Don't Come Easy - fast and loose, great; at this point I need to point out that 5-13 are pretty much interchangeable and if I made this list in a few days, there would likely be changes 14. Master of the Rings - Andi saved the band back then, the album is good too 15. My God-Given Right - somehow I never quite vibed with it, but very decent still 16. Chameleon - one album has to be last, I still enjoy the album a lot though PUMPKINS, RISE!

love helloween! pink bubbles has some really great tracks on it. chameleon is a misunderstood album. two awesome records that just didn't sound like the Helloween everyone knew of. but as far as music I think theyre great albums. Having said that, "Better Than Raw" was my first intro to Helloween.

I totally agree - there not "Metal" per se, but musically they're mostly great - same by the way for the Kiske Album: Kiske (2006) which is more of an acoustic singer/songwriter album, but the songs are just awesome.

I like pink bubbles very much. Kiske is great in that album. Chameleon is very slow, but good songs. Dont understand why people were fucked up by them. But best is of course Keeper 2. No bad song in it. I started loving Helloween at age 14, 1990. Same time a friend told me, they had to stop due to a verdict. It broke my heart. Then, 24 years later I saw Unisonic with Kiske and Hansen in Bremen, Germany. A dream came true seeing them play Helloween songs and in 2018 I saw Helloween in Hamburg. I had to wait 28 years to see Helloween with Kiske. I saw Helloween with Deris in the mid 90s, but it didn't feel right for me. Now with both singers, its great. But completly without Kiske, thats not my thing. So Im very happy with the way they do it today. And Im happy for them to play for big audiences like they diseverved it from the beginning.

@@R6Guitar I think, if you didn't look at Chameleon as a Helloween album, that is, don't come in with any expectations of what a Helloween album SHOULD sound like, it is a very very solid album, but it is so far removed from Keepers that it is almost jarring. Revolution Now, I Believe and Longing are some of my favorite songs, and In the Night is a song that I think could have been a top 40 hit. Even the song that I disliked the most - Crazy Cat - has grown on me because the solo is great.

@@mooseheadjack1 You're right. If you don't look at the bandname on the cover, chameleon is an amazing album. Any newcomer band would have been hyped like crazy. I know and love Helloween since Walls of Jericho. And after the two absolutely mindblowing Keeper releases, I probably never forget that moment in our local record store, when Pink bubbles came out (although the gods know I tried really hard). Seeing the cover and "What is THAT???" Ok, didn't want to judge an album by the cover and thought, that it can't be that bad, cause... you know, it's Helloween. Failed. It was much worse! Maybe because of the expectations I had, but until today I still don't like it. My expectations were much lower, when Chameleon was released. And I was amazed. Yes it's not Helloween, as I knew them, but it has an atmosphere I immediately fell in love with. My only personal dislike was Step out of hell.

Great video, I discovered Helloween in college right as Dragonforce's debut album of all things was making the rounds on our local shareware network, and I started searching for similar bands like Stratovarius and Nightwish, which eventually led me back to Helloween. Not too long after that I picked up their recently released "Treasure Chest" best of album here in the States, and ever since then they've been without question my favorite band! Aside from a couple of their most recent releases prior to their reunion with Kai and Kiske, they've been pretty consistent in album quality. It was such a blast going through their back catalog and the first time hearing the Keepers albums is something I'll never forget, but I gotta say the mid 90s - early 00s Deris era is criminally underrated. Aside from Keepers 1+2, the 4 albums they released with Deris before their 2nd major lineup change easily round out my Top 5 albums from the band (yes, even more than Walls of Jericho!).

"I Want Out" was my introduction to Helloween (as in, seeing the video on Headbanger's Ball). I fell so hard in love with Michael Kiske's voice. I remember then buying the cd, and when "Eagle Fly Free" came and went, I was left an emotional mess... I thought I loved Bruce Dickenson's vocal range, but man, with Kiske and his (even more) vocal range, I was crying😭, his voice was so beautiful... I remember going to the Headbanger's Ball tour at the Civic Center in Atlanta, with Anthrax, Exodus, and Helloween. seeing Helloween Live, and Michael Kiske perform, I was never the same, was a night to remember. I never knew about "Pumpkins United", and seems like I need to give Deris a chance, as alot of that stuff you showcased here in this video, I really liked. I kind of wrote off Helloween when Kiske left, kind of like how I did in the same retrospect, with Maiden. when Bruce left, it was never the same. but, Deris is pretty damn good, looks like I got a few Helloween records to listen to now, since I obv. ignored 'em in the past. thanks so much for an EPIC video!!🔥🔥

Headbangers Ball! Man that takes me back! I remember seeing I Want Out, I loved it. I ordered Keepers II through Columbia House/BMG, I literally still remember where I was when I popped it into my walkman (take that kids!) and heard Eagle Fly Free, I was hooked. Deris is great, the video really did describe him perfectly as a cross between Hansen and Kiske. Better Than Raw may be my favorite Helloween CD, yep, even above Keepers II, Deris can more than hold his own.

I actually stumbled onto helloween keeper 1&2 in the mid 90s back in high school, when we had bands like Testmant and Megadeth for metal and they absolutely blew my mind. I instantly fell in love with the lighter, neo-classical songs with tons of melody in the guitars and vocals. It pretty much was going against everything I heard out there at the time.

Me too! I was initially gob-smacked by Kiske's firing, but I've got to admit that I was also thinking "WTF" when Chameleon came out, so perhaps no surprise. I really tried to continue with them, but I just couldn't take to Deris' voice. Nothing against the guy. He's probably a top geezer. I just don't like his singing. I then checked out what Kai had been up to with Gamma Ray. Why did I not do that sooner? If you haven't, do yourself a favour and do so. The first three albums with Ralf are good, but they seem to be trying to find their way. A shame, because he's an amazing singer. Land of the Free is a flawless masterpiece. Loved them in the '80's, sort of lost track of them in the '90's - 2015. Just them really falling off my radar. Around the 2015 timeframe I got interested in them again with the release of My God Given Right album, and then went searching through their back catalog. I agree completely that "Better Than Raw", "Gambling With The Devil", and "7 Sinners" are up there in the bands output. The last album, "Helloween" is still growing on me, but I'm excited for what the band has now with both Kiske and Deris on co-vocals. If they can keep it together, they have an edge on a lot of bands that can't produce those harmonies. I've spent a good deal going back and buying their back catalog, and I don't regret any of them at all.

Thanks very much for this great video!!! I.m.o., Michael Kiske completed a great band, but with Kai being it's mastermind. He dominated song writing and also guitar solos - This made Keeper I possible, which is a unique masterpiece. Keeper II followed with more trivial contributions by Weikath and all in all was far below Keeper I. With Kai Hansen leaving, there was no real band left. The fantastic vocals by Kiske lost the track and as he always wanted to change his direction (but before, held in line by Kai) - Helloween had no more to give. The Kiske/Weikath albums were not worth mentioning and so was every release thereafter. Also the Schwichtenberg-farewell (RIP) didn't help. You can still feel the spirit decades later, when Kiske and Hansen play live together with Helloween or Unisonic. It's like: an absolutely unique Metal-guitarrist like Kai Hansen had a his good season with an overwhealming vocalist. The rest is not worth mentioning. (this is how I experienced the Helloween time)....
