For over 35 + years I’ve followed ( books &videos) Ron Fournier, Kent White, Ron Covell, John Glover, and most recently William Longyards book on the English Wheel… where I learned of some guy named Wray Schelin? Yet none of them changed the way I thought/looked or shaped metal , like Wray has! After following Wrays on his You Tube videos , he said one thing ( on one of his videos) that none of the others ever said or emphasized that is probably the simplest , yet most prolific statements in shaping! “Any panel can be made with stretching alone “! Thank Wray for all that you do 👍

Stretching or shrinking are both easy and can be done with simple methods and inexpensive tools. I learned that from observing what the Italian coachbuilders did. They made more hand built cars, made the best designs, and their coachwork/designs have proven over time to be the most desired and valued.

Hello from Alaska. Just got in my proshaper mallet set and shrinking disc combo. I considered making my own tucking mallet. I will tell you your pictures and videos dont do it justice. It is huge. Love the videos, Patrick.

6:52 Bristol had (mostly) full surface hammer forms for many of their models. There’s a sad photo of all of them stood next to each other in a gloomy warehouse after they went bankrupt for the last time. The doors were not full surface, if I remember correctly, only simple curved panel, like a Jag XJS. Maybe you should do another buck and hammer form video explaining what bucks can be used for what, with pictures of the cobra bucks and such, ultimate buck video.

Good Vid Wray, but what is the yellow masking tape over the wire for?
@proshaper2 жыл бұрын
Wire forms don't photograph well so you have to put masking tape on them to see them. The masking tape also protects the panels from being scratched.

Can I ask what grade and thickness of alloy you've used for the body panels please? Great videos as always. Cheers 👍
@proshaper2 жыл бұрын
For aluminum car bodies I use .063" 3003. For steel car bodies I use .040" steel. Both have excellent dent resistance.

@@proshaperdo you have a video of the creation of the wire buck ? I have an idea of how I will create my buck but I feel like my process will be unconventional in comparison.

Is there a reason you make that all in one piece over welding it by the edge where it folds over so you can shrink the edges easier just asking don’t know much

I don’t know how that reverse curve on the sharp edged tern down is possible . I mean Wray explained it but wow. Skills there people. ❤️🇦🇺

Hi Laurie, actually it is more of the magic of the wireform, and using heat as a shaping tool. This panel was made by students with little or no experience. As I have said many times techniques are way more important than tools. Most people give up because they perceive the tools as absolutely needed before they can proceed.

@@proshaper hey thanks for taking your time to message mate I appreciate it. I call you Job because of your patients at your work. Im learning that while learning some of your skills . I’m always on the lookout for any new Wray Schelin ProShaper videos as I’ve seen all I have access to on you tube, thanks again.👍🇦🇺 Have a good life
I totally understand the pro's of a wire Buck... but i dont know how to build a wire Buck for a Car 🤷🏻♂️ I can easily buy some files for a wooden Buck, but how to transfer this into a wire Buck 🤔

Hi Toby, experiment on a small scale. Make a wireform of a motorcycle tank. Use 1/4" hot roll. Once you make a few witeforms you will learn how easy and rewarding it is. Look at the videos at my KZbin channel showing how I do full scale drawings and then turn them into wireforms.
