Lakhan's a stupidly smart man, which is why Jinshi basically doesn't trust him as far as he can throw him. He's also the same kind of guy that makes himself invaluable to the place he's at.

He's also essentially the chief of staff of the military, so as a member of the imperial household, it's only natural for one not to trust him. Like, in terms of potential success rate for anyone attempting rebellion/treason and overthrow the current ruling family, his position make that rate much higher than anyone else.

I remember when the manga was introducing him it characterized him as the kind of savant military strategist who could make or break a regime during wartime. He's an eccentric weirdo but no one wants to make an enemy of him because he is absolutely smart enough to screw you over if you give him a reason.

Like you, I also knew the riddle has to do with the fishbowl and sunlight. What I thought was the father put wax in the keyhole to block the key. So, melting the wax would let you unlock the chest. But I was not expecting solder and then melting that solder to make another key. That was just mind blowing.

When I saw the smoke coming out of the keyhole, I thought that the father might have jammed in and broken off a stick of incense in the keyhole, and the incense burned to allow the key to be inserted. But it was even more complicated: melting solder into another key!

Zack, steel comes from processed iron.... not lead.... or tin.... Bronze comes from tin so there's that.... but not steal :) The solder used to make the key is a combination of tin and lead. Lead has a melting point of 900* where as solder can melt at a much lower temperature. The secret metal alloy is pewter. Pewter is a combination of lead, tin, and usually a third metal used as a hardening g agent. Antique pewter was used for eating utensils. Supposedly safe, and often pewter was used for ornate finishes, makes sense with this context. The third metal that was used seems to be antimony. Would be used as a hardening agent and give the pewter stronger qualities. Bismuth was a common hardening metal for antique pewter too, but bismuth doesn't look like the same metal as the one shown in the anime, antimony does though.

Thank you! That was very informative. I would not have figured out the special metal was Pewter. Just to add. Pewter does not rust. That is why it is perfect for decorative pieces like vases, figures, ornaments, etc.

Also, the melting point of Iron is super high, which is why it’s more difficult to work with than bronze, and people thus tended to learn bronzeworking before ironworking

Lead, tin and probably antimony when mixed in the correct ratio have what its called an eutetic point, that lowers the melting point. I include antimony because also it can produce poisoning, harmful effects upon body tissues and functions of ingesting or inhaling certain compounds of antimony. Such poisoning resembles arsenic poisoning. Antimony also prevents the alloy to shrink when it solidifies, this is why this alloy is used in typography.

I was never into reaction video but after Apothecary Diaries I had watching a lot because i feel like I am watching the episode again. And for all the reaction videos for this, yours is my fav because you really go in depth in this compare to others. I am excited for your reaction when everythings is piece together. Also I hope that the series will get more season until to the current LN because that is where maomao really goes into more medicine and I would love to see your reaction to that. Cour 1 anime: Light novel vol. 1 Cour 2 anime: Light novel vol. 2 (this episode is chapter 5 of 20 in vol. 2). Currently the English novel is up to vol. 10 so I really hope for season 2 and so on. The more I read, the more interesting it gets. One thing though, I don't hate Lakan so far. 🤔 Always really enjoy your reactions here ♡

the metal worker id also inhaling the lead , lead will partialy vaporize when heated to melting point , so you have to be in a well ventlated area to work with lead when casting it

absolutely. so many methods of him to absorb lead in that time, they didn't have the proper PPE for this.

It was good to see you pay attention to what was being said like in the part where the the father deliberately divided the metals to the perfect ratio. Today's episode was pretty interesting considering the father's secret technique is creating a new form of metal that'll melt at lower heat (but honestly, that sounds kinda dangerous to me tho lol). Also, this episode did it again and hit us with the FEELS:')

There may be three metals e.g., rose metal can melt as low as 98 degrees centigrade lead, tin, bismuth but other metals and other ratios cover a range. So melting temp and strength can vary a lot.

The anime skip some detail from the novel. The metal suppose to melt in a day and they wait longer hence the father hint about drinking tea together. I guess the anime just want to avoid the boring process.

The annoying freak, someone you will love to hate. Something like Frank Burns of MASH. The old school solder is made of lead and tin, and this is used in electronics and plumbing. There is a new formula for lead-free solder. The why is beyond this comment.

in the one episode where maomao went back for vacation she sat down in a dark room where a women layed in bed sick at it would seem or unconcious i think that might be her Mom? Was just a short moment on screen but my guess would be if she was used up by rakan to lessen her worth and maomao is the product of that her mom might did something to herself out of depression and all that?
