UVS needs to be at all of the MAJOR ANIME conventions in the US. They missed out BIG TIME not appearing at the biggest MIDWEST ANIME convention in Chicago. 20,000,30,000 people pass through the weekend. Universus is the 4th longest TCG alive today! Right behind Magic, Pokémon, YGO. They need to use that fact to their advantage. YYH is a classic SJ anime. Still wildly popular today. Cowboy Bebop and Trigun. Godzilla is insanely popular. And of course MHA and AOT. UVS did incredibly good on IP’s this year. And of course I ah e faith they will do great again in 2025. They need an anime convention presence in California, Chicago, Texas, New York. Bare minimum. Excluding the given. Gencon and worlds at Las Vegas.

Why this is one of the few tcgs without a tie in app is beyond me, that would have gone a long way. That and maybe a tutorial video that covers failed plays. And a quick reference guide for certain phrases.

Hi there! I have never played this game before, I saw a couple of videos back in the days when MHA was a hype few years / months maybe, but I didn’t understand the game really, and since I’m not into MHA I didnt make the effort. Now AOT is a whole different thing, I’m super fan big time. Now I’m willing to learn everything there is to this game, which I still find more complex than any other game I’ve played. Thanks for sharing all this info, and I hope to see more of AOT videos, let’s go!

The game is a bit intimidating to learn with all that can happen just from the get go. Im happy and excited to see where the games go with these demo decks and this approach.

A turn in UVS simply isn't comparable to a turn in most other cardgames. There is so much more play and interplay. So much more interaction. Each card in an attack turn can almost be thought of as its own separate turn by comparison. With that in mind, I think the overwhelming number of cards played is almost more psychological than mechanical. Based less on cards played and more on the lack of a clear stop and reset point in between them. Which, if so, does not make it any less of a real issue but may also open up other avenues for treating that problem. For now though, I love the simplicity of these demo decks as a teaching aid. We've needed demo decks with less overwhelming effect text for the longest time.

I agree with the difficulty of learning the game. When i was doing demos for the company biggest issue was information overload, second was player base or lack thereof. I'm glad to see they are simplifying it to a degree without killing the tabletop deck building style of it. good for them I wish the game didn't die in my area so fast I do miss playing it, making content and deck brewing with it.

Our playerbase largely moved to other games, but I'm planning on rebuilding it here. I'm really pumped for the future of the game and think AoT is going to really push things in a great direction.

I come from Pokemon tcg and I'm interested in picking back up UVS (I played VFS casually back in the day). Might be at an advantage with the early game issue you mentioned, it isn't uncommon to come under 25 cards left in deck turn 1, so I haven't considered that issue of playing a lot of cards early game.

Funny, when I was teaching younger players during MHA set 1, I eventually just told them to treat all the foundations and attacks like they had no text to get things running smoother.

I love the demo decks! In terms of on-boarding new players, I really like the system that Pokemon has now with their pre-built decks. Each deck is given a complexity level of 1, 2 or 3. The level 1 decks are super simple, fairly cheap, sometimes scripted, and are designed to convey the basic mechanics of the game. Level 2 decks are intermediate. And Level 3 decks are a bit more expensive, but are designed to be reflective of competitive play. And while I love all of Universus's previous Clash decks and Challenger decks, it would be good to finally get some true beginner decks as well.

I think that new players dont have to remember every single thing and should just focus on having fun. Universus was pretty tough to play for me several games in a row with someone else's todoroki deck, but it clicked with me really well the second day I played it.
@MaindeckGames6 ай бұрын
For sure, and that's one of the greatest challenges of teaching - you can't dictate how your student interacts with the material. I don't know how many times I've tried to teach any game and have said "don't worry about this for now" and have players who DEFINITELY worry about it for now. Tools like this can help consolidate the stream of info so players don't inadvertently sabotage themselves with a need to read.
@bloomcrawler5 ай бұрын
Nothing wrong with simple, a lot of the time it makes for a great time. To be fair, I'd rather a game last 10 minutes so a Best of 3 match only takes 30 mins. I agree more hands on is way better than a watch video. Watch videos are only good if time is taken to explain each card and what the strategy of the deck is, with an explanation of key cards and how they work together to execute that plan and ultimately win the game. Biggest thing I think this game has going for it is the focus on a single player character. So many games use Creatures, Monsters, Monsters that come out of Tiny balls... But this game like FAB gets rid of the war band and allows you to really flesh out the attacks of single character and how they would fight in a battle each with their own unique mechanics. Looks fantastic, and I still have my Morgan UFS deck I bought it a long time ago but had no one to play with unfortunately.

New possible player here. Its definitely sparked my interest but in my research ive already found a couple of gripes. First one was on the main page i couldn't easily find what deck requirements even were, nor rules, or even what every type of card was. The link to the sun wu game talked about two different cards and pretended the reat of the game didnt exist. Through various videos and reddit im piecing together how the game goes but that reaks of not understanding how to market the game to new players. Second, it seems like we already have content creators divided and fighting in such a tiny community. Again as a new player it scares me away from the product. Lastly i think the community is missing a start up type creator to help people move into the right kind of decks to be able to feel like they know what they should even be looking for. Hope this helps!

A little too vanilla? You still want players to have a taste of the depth and strategy... players who want some complexity might dismiss the game after a demo, while players looking for something simple might like the demo and then have a shock when they play a real game
@MaindeckGames6 ай бұрын
I think this does give them a taste still. There are so many layers to the game that I don't think you need to have a board full of abilities to get that taste. Players will already be figuring out the card pool, attacking, blocking, and using the character and foundation enhances. They'll get to see all the other abilities as soon as they look at any other cards!
@RarecuisineSaucegod-ig8bc6 ай бұрын
This game has a lot going on even outside of the card effects. A game that is a little too vanilla even with card effects is one piece.
@Japaninhimself6 ай бұрын
There’s a very simple to that. If the new player demoing the deck says this is too simple and not complex. Okay. That’s fine. I understand. Then let’s play a new demo game with these advanced demo decks that the staff brings. It’s very easy to make more advanced demo decks with the most popular characters. That’s the beauty of this game.
@RarecuisineSaucegod-ig8bc6 ай бұрын
@@Japaninhimself I agree. Card gamers like Dan could get jiggy with an advanced demo deck. Someone joining for the IP or a beginner card gamer may benefit from the vanilla decks.
