For those complaining about their price, remember that these speakers are also vacuum cleaners. They roam while you're out and clean the floors. The floor-standing ones definitely do that and the stand-mounts might do it too.

Why wouldn't you place them further from the wall? Why does interior design win from acoustics even in a speaker brand commercial?

The 800 series are no longer rear ported and use a downward firing bass port with the baseplate being a tuned distance away. This allows a more flexible positioning of the speaker as distance from the side/rear wall can be reduced if required. We would generally advise a minimum of 500mm as a general rule, if achievable in your room environment.
