Empathy unfortunately gets more and more rare these days. People forget about victims, because it doesn't happen to them. They end up as statistics. They're not there for the physical clean up, the mental cleanup. These people's lives get changed forever in some way. You definitely reminded a lot of people of that tonight. Don't ever change Andy. :)

Yeah. And some people just say they want to see a tornado and are watching from a screen safe in their own home far away. I don’t want a tornado no matter what.

I remember when the news covered Trump flying to new york and thinking " Some people won't be alive tomorrow to even care about this news. Why are they not covering the possible tornado outbreaks. " Once the tornado hit near St. Louis the 5:30 national news were all over it. They didn't care to warn people about the storms... before. They were there to reap the dollars out of tragedy.

I have a huge heart of empathy for each storm...I have lived in other countries and have seen all kinds of storms...I know how much sorrow a tornado can give...and a hurricane, and fires!! My apt was literally across street from where the fire stopped!! I'm a tad concerned about climate changes and the storms that the tornado lets loose on tornado alley... All these F5s...I am willing to put down money that next season we will see an F6!!! These storms now are crazy!!! So, there are still compassionate ppl left in world, maybe not here, but other countries, yeah

Brad is special! But, no, empathy is not "getting rare." It's an illusion. The ratio of human jerks/angels stays the same throughout history. Social media jerks being prolific writers of bad comments does not equal "more jerks online than caring people." Jerks have a goal to upset, (for personal pleasure,) so they tend to make accounts/comment a heck of a lot more than "normal" folks. The 2nd distorting factor is - there are more immature people on the internet than fully-mature. (Youth are more likely to be on the internet frequently than 60+ year olds.) Nearly all kids have a phase in life where they taunt others, then grow out of it. Remember - a comment can stay forever, even if the person grew/changed. (Note to Youth: I highly-respect youths that are respectful/mature. You just have to admit many are not. Makes you more special!) The 3rd: Many adults refuse to make social media accounts - at all. Worrying about privacy, or, simply not knowing how. One cannot comment without an account. (Or even like/dislike.) This means immature types / troublemakers have a disproportionate representation of their views. (But remember, many people WOULD have left a nice comment, if they had an account.) So - be happy to be wrong! :)

@denatucker4962 yes you are correct but after she got hit there was no electricity no internet or phone luckily she could still send texts so I could check and see if was safe for her to come out of the closet was the point. She got warnings to take cover; it was the all-clear that she didn't have any way of knowing.

Andy, I watched this live while it was happening while my daughter was in the basement at Oklahoma Baptist University. You did a great job. I was in sheer panic mode as I waited to hear if she was ok, but you kept me sane. Knowing what was happening strangely helped. All students, teachers and staff at the college are fine and not even an injury occured at the school. So much damage, but those things are replaceable.

Death count is now up to 3 as of this morning. The only lucky thing to happen to Shawnee last night was that the major hospital in town didn't get severely damaged. The hospital sits on the north side of W MacArthur St. across from the OBU campus. It looks like the path across campus was almost a straight line from the corner of Raley Dr/W. University to MacArthur/Kickapoo because the SE corner of Raley Chapel had the roof peeled back, and the roof on Shawnee Hall is completely gone.

Wow watching this 5 days later. I live in Shawnee and was goofing around with friends at a gas station since we didn't want out cars in the hail. Thank goodness we had the news pulled up, immediately went home and into the bathroom under mattresses. Felt the wind with all the doors closed, heard it the whole time. Seeing the damage it really set in how significant it was. Seeing "shawnee strong" photos of downtown shawnee before the storm makes me cry. Nearly the whole city has power but not everybody, this will take a while to clean but we are so thankful there was no fatalities in our town.

I was watching this stream until I fell asleep that night. Didnt know until the next day that the internet/TV company I work for had an office in Shawnee and evidently the office got obliderated, the headend had structural damage, and several of our guy's properties were impacted but thankfully I dont believe any of them were hurt, at least nothing more than minor injuries if anything. Heard about it the next morning. Our head end tech (in SE Georgia) was telling us that some of our channels are out because we get some of them piped in from the Shawnee, OK office and instantly I knew why. They sent out a company-wide email later that day letting us know what happened and that our guys up there were okay, but were affected.
