my conclusion is, if you are using light bait, better go with bfs spool or custom lighter spool. if you are fishing for monster or versatile bait, go with original spool, do some modify on it.

Thank you for sharing your experience! Do you know which stock reel, without any modifications, can cast further 7 to 10 gr. jigs? Metanium 20 or Metanium 22?

Curious if those aluminum micro module gears hold up. No idea why they switched back, the original Metanium MGL and the 2013 Metanium both had issues with their micro module gears. I was also fearful of the new Aldebaran BFS for the same reason. Worst case scenario, you can order the brass gears from the 2020 Metanium MGL and place them in the shallow edition. Just would like to hear how the smoothness is holding up. I made the mistake of buying a Conquest and now I judge all other Shimanos to that standard.

i think it is the cost matters. aluminum micro module gears is more cheaper.this also apply to line guider. in 2022 line guider, it is sic. but 2020 is sic with titanium coating.

@@YeibonYe Didn't know that. I assumed the Shallow Edition got aluminum gears to save weight, to make it look and feel more finesse. I have never had a fail personally, just reports off the forum.

@@logicalrationalfishing7481 it is only 10g diff. if they want, can make some holes on brass gear to reduce weight. i think the aluminum gear is using in other reels too. maximum compatible.

I already replaced my 2022 metanium with brass gear. The aluminium gear damaged pretty badly after few months use. Probably due to my own fault on how i handle the reels by using force when the lures got stucked on few ocassions. But i thought the gear would have been more durablem
