Well he didn't see the girl that was in front of him and he punched her badly, she ended up in the hospital with stiches. No, that is our current tech. VR lights up the brain like IRL social interaction, but the abstraction of these 2D screen doesn't. Parts of our brains atrophy over using this interface and not interacting socially IRL. It can show as anxiety disorders. VR will fix this issue. VR doesn't fix depression, but it can help with anxiety, and fix depression from being isolated by anxiety, if that is the cause. Some issues will get worse in VR, as untreated conditions tend to get worse.

I am going to be honest. I don't see "Virtual Reality" as the future. I do see Mixed reality (Augmented Reality) as more on the point of being the future. As the professor states at around the 21:00 mark, Virtual reality "disconnects" you from the real world. There are soooo many more advancements in haptic like technology that needs to be made before we can make VR more of the desired future. Things like the drink that can simulate tasks and smell are a HUGE jump in my opinion, it is still far from where it needs to be to make VR the norm. When people think VR as the future, they are imagining themselves literally disappearing into the world for their entire day. That means there needs to things like muscle atrophy that need be over come. On the other hand Mixed Reality simply interfaces with the real world. To make it the norm we just simply need to find a way of making a device that is unnoticeable that will show our world around us and interact with what is in it. Imagine Driving and having notifications live on the road in front of you with hazards. Walking around anywhere in the world and instantly having all text translated before your eyes. Music that plays in your head without headphones. The possibilities are endless.

The true essence of metaverse is the interconnected virtual worlds and augmented reality, where people are given a choice of whether to use their official avatar (real identity) or their proxy avatar (virtual identity). So there is no such thing as one virtual world in the metavese. Roblox, IMVU, Second Life, and other virtual worlds should ideally link to one another and changing from one to another should be as fluid as jumping from one website to another in Web 2.0.

YES completely agreed. One more thing that I mentioned in my interview but did not make it into the story: we need to have digital sovereignty and a NON algorithmically dominated mode of interaction. I am obviously biased towards SL because of functionality and breadth of culture that I don't see in other virtual world offerings but I am very much for the idea of a colorful patchwork of worlds, free of monopolized power. The true threat is a regulatory environment that favors big players like FB/Meta!

I can see the use of VR expanding in the world of entertainment. Such as with games, shopping, exploring, shows/concerts, etc. I love my VR games and experiences (hate the weight of the headsets though), and could see myself shopping for stuff in VR. It could do very well in the world of education as well. But socializing? Not unless I'm physically unable to. Socializing with friends in real life is still the best way to do it in my opinion.

Play games, go shoping for virtual goods / rl goods you can get from online shops of rl malls and delivered/, i wander and explore and ther is endless world, i go to live concerts, to thetrical plays, to authors book readings, art galleries with art from rl and virtual world, i can do sports, i can go and learn many different stuff , i can hang with my friends, i can create, build, design and decorate, I can have family, i can fall in love , I can get virtually pregnant and have kid, i can be kid and recreate happiest times from mine childhood, I can have shop and sell mine ccreated items, I can build club and run it or gallery and support arts, i can be what ever or whoever i want......and that place is here already long time - it is called SEcond Life. Yes it SL doesnt have VR or AR ...yet. But SL evolves and grows and changes all time ... P.S. some people have already tried to be in SL with VR sets..it is possible but bit painful to pull. There was Sansar what was all VR.. but bc it didnt followed SL expierence with users ... it kind of failed after big hype.

I started in Second Life in 2005, and in 2007, I met and became friends with the man I have been living with in real life since 2014. We are not at all unique. There are many long term real life relationships, some of which have led to real life marriages, that have started in Second Life. There needs to be a healthy relationship between what the metaverse can be used for and spending time in real life, exploring, walking, gardening, and just breathing in that fresh air. Nothing beats real life. But I wouldn't be too unhappy if we used vr for meetings or teaching in the classroom while you are home sick, giving you the option of attending a virtual class or attending a real life class depending on convenience.

If people are buying virtual real estate on the metaverse, how is that going to be a momentary experience for those people? I feel like it's more common for people to want to fully commit to the metaverse and spend most of their time in it, because their real life is so incredibly miserable.

A VR metaverse would be as alien as humans walking on Mars in suits….real non starter on earth beyond limited use cases. On other hand AR seem seamless and intuitive. Almost feel like Facebook and Microsoft trying to resurrect VR from its ashes!

MY PREDICTION: Is it cool? Is it fun? Sure it is... But, this will potentially be one of the worst ideas and creations ever made! It gives me chills just thinking about it. The phrase, "living in a digital world"....WTF. It's not realistic, it's fake, it's fiction, but they're going to do everything they can to make it your reality. Technological advancement is incredible and necessary, but much like social media today, these things end up evolving into way more than what they were originally created/intended for. Which then leads to unknown impacts that have an everlasting affect on basically everything and everyone. Over time, we now know that social media has caused many effects that were completely unpredictable in the beginning, with one of the main issues being mental health. I can just imagine the ads/commercials in my head.... "Are you sick and tired of being you? And living life on life's terms?" "Do you want a new one? You deserve it!" "Now introducing, metaverse!...Where you can go play God." But real life doesn't fckn work that way! Now, there are a lot of great things that have came from social media, but I believe overall, the negative effects outweigh the positive. VR was, and is, primarily created for GAMING! Keep it that way! Sadly, it won't.

The whole idea is to unsubscribe with any and all interactions with the dark side, contact with it must be forbidden.
