I'll be going to Athens next Friday for business. Going to pick up a bottle. Thanks Jason

It’s widely available there. I forgot to mention in my review that many enjoy it as an ingredient in a cocktail too. Have a great trip!

Always like your reviews Jason: to the point and informative. Received a bottle of Metaxa as a gift. Have yet to try it. It does get a bit neglected with all the other spirit choices: scotch and other whiskies in particular.

You should try Metaxa Private Reserve 30 years old. It's the best brandy out there. Then, I like their 5 Star, then the 7 star and lastly the 12 star. Private Reserve is the King! Merry Christmas and a Hapy new Year!.

Hi Jason, love your reviews! I'm a Cognac/Armagnac guy but am interested in exploring other brandies. Have heard of one from Bolivia called Singani 63 that is distilled from muscat grapes. Apparently director Stephen Soderberg had something to do with it's development. Thought it might make an interesting video, if you can find it in Canada. Thanks again for the great content!

Unfortunately not available where I am. Great suggestion though and certainly if I travel and see it will grab it. Cheers!

Nice video, Jason. This may be too sweet for me. Great review, though, thank you.👍

Yup it’s sweetness sits in between a rye whisky and a French liqueurs like Cointreau or Grand Mariner.

hey Jason, yet another nice review. Just a comment from a Greek: based on the quality of the drinks you are typically reviewing, you should had given it a go with the metaxa private reserve. a bit more expensive but a completely different experience than the 12 stars. On a separate note : nice review on the Spanish brandy, I was always wondering about it - think I will try it next time I get the chance.

It's funny, my Greek relatives always refer to Metaxa as a cognac, although obviously they are using that term rather casually and it is obviously it's own thing, as you note in your review. As someone else commented, the younger expressions are often used to sweeten cookies or desserts. I've had the Metaxa 7 and I enjoyed it, although my wife found the rose petal notes very off-putting. Here in New York I see the 5 and 7 all the time on shelves... occasionally you will see one called Metaxa Grande that comes in a nice porcelain decanter and it seems to be one step above the 12 although, like cognac, there's no clear indication how old this stuff is. Nice review... I'll have to give the 12 a try and order a bottle online. Cheers!

Your relatives referring to Metaxa as cognac is understandable because in the early 1900's into at least the 1930's Metaxa was labelled as cognac because no law prohibited the Greek company from doing so. In any case, it's a fun spirit especially at Christmas time. I think you would like the 12 and given the reasonable price in NY, its worth a try! Happy Holidays!

Interesting history on the spirit. I'm not much into the botanicals, but I'm always looking for a new conversation drink to impress my blue-voting snootie attendees over the holidays. I'm wondering how it compares to Tsipouro?

Singani 63 is kind of interesting. It works well as a twist on a a pisco sour. Not a big fan of pisco or singani neat, but those sours rock!

You can tell that Metaxa is a speciality of brandy ,must try the 5 and 7 stars expresionssThe greek s use 3 stars Metaxa for making cakes,5 stars for them and 7 and 12 for tourists....

Gwiazdki na etykiecie Metaxy nic nie znaczą. To tylko gwiazdki z opisaną liczbą i nic więcej. Kształt butelki się tylko zmienił.
