What are your thoughts on Metazoo Topps Chrome so far?

Personally, as a casual fan of metazoo I love it. Every card is a hit, the potential for serial cards is high and makes it exciting. The full art chrome style looks amazing and i love the battle cards. I think the chase for the 1/1s is fuelling the hype but that's to be expected

I'm loving it. I didn't buy any of the regular Topps because I wasn't really interested. Chrome was on my radar and I was planning to pick some up. It did blow away my expectations and I've ordered waaay more than anticipated. It's really fun to open.

Regardless of value, it seems very fun to rip + has possibility of really high end chases and bounties. Gives me Wonka golden ticket vibes. I don't collect MZ, but I have 9 boxes from Target on the way.

I think set collectors will dictate where the prices ultimately will level out at. The question is, how many people will actually try and go for a complete parallel black, orange, gold, or green bordered set? Even if the answer is low, its enough to sustain these cards at "realistic" price values imo. This is the set where sealed collectors should be drooling at the mouth at. As far as we know its small print (at least for hobby ~30k boxes), it's been cracked to oblivion already, and its going to continued to be opened A LOT still. Combine that with the fact that you only get 4 cards per pack and it makes the base and normal refactors a little harder to start accumulating bulk of. I do not collect sealed, but I believe this is the set that people thought Wilderness would be- where people just keep opening it non-stop. The difference is A.) (I believe) Wilderness had a higher print run and B.) After like 16 Wilderness boxes what incentive do I have to open again to have like 400 useless bulk cards laying around for a chance at a SR or ticket? Chrome isn't like that, or at the very least it will take longer for ppl like me to get to that point. I think you make a good point about the black bordered cards. I don't think their overall sale values will match their rarity. But in TCG's rarity never was #1 selling factor. It is a factor, but its not the most important. I think the Green Borders will sell the best albeit at lower value b/c ppl will look at them and think they can probably realistically complete a green border set at a relatively low price. Another to consider about Golds, Oranges, and Blacks (like the Ben B. gold you pulled) even though its numbered out of 50, it doesn't mean all 50 will ever hit the market. So even if you have just 10 guys going after a complete Gold set, there could still be some heavy demand. This set could honestly be a turning point in MZ Collecting history where the collectors just go after the Topps sets moving forward and leave the base sets for the players. It usually takes some shift in the paradigm like that for a brand to accel in the future. Could be a pivotal point in MZ history here. Or it could just be a very strong stand-alone set that holds value on its own down the line. No matter what it is, even if it "crashes" I know for sure I will always be collecting these.

I'd agree. As a collector and not a player I'm only interested in rarity and artwork. TOPPS CHROME has both for me. Sealed is a good investment until every 1/1 is pulled at only 30k hobby boxes. I'm yet to see a battle card higher than a gold rarity. I think they will be the hardest to chase with golds being 1:4500 packs etc.

It's an interesting question for serialized cards, of any game, really.
@LupercalRising Жыл бұрын
Got to agree that with 150 cards with 99,50,25,5 and 1 that's 180 serials for each base card. 180 x 150= 27000 and that's just for the base set. Then you have the battle cards, lore, camera and creator cards all with their own rarity serials.

Mothman 1/1 if it went to auction it could be the first card reaching $500,000 to $1M to a hype collector

Real story is that a guy in the metazoo company created 12 sample cards 1/1 at his house on a computer and out of the 12 he created the Mothman and gave it to Steve Aoki to lure him in the card community then after that Steve became the cofounder of metazoo

I just wanted to point out that I have not seen a single Cryptid Cam that was not alternate art. So I don’t think there are 4 of each 1/1. I think there are 3. And only 15 of the /5s. I’m obviously not 100% sure just my observation

Just ripped some blasters and i must say the cards look great but you can expect the same old topps chrome quality control. Scratched surfaces and horrible off centering seem to be very common with chrome products. 😩

What is the “unofficial” order of priority chase cryptids? If mothman is #1, what’s the order of the remaining ones?
