I use a cocktail stick to wrap it round and then cut the stick to length and glue it to the stack after painting the top of the stick and the pot black. I also find the pots seem a little over high so I also cut a small amount off the bottom of the chimney pot. (N Gauge).

Can you buy addition parts of walling etc' separately from the kits.
