Another great vid!! Little tip to avoid the red bleeding under the tape and onto the white is to spray another coat of white once you have masked up for the red. That way, anything that DOES happen to bleed is the same colour as what's already under the tape and seals it for perfect crisp lines!!😁
@OhioCentralModeler Жыл бұрын
I use clear coats for this purpose, then it doesn't really matter what the surface underneath is colored. You just want to put a seal around the edges of the tape regardless.

hey, really cool video :) . a small idea for recording the final shots: in practical vfx, when explosions are filmed with miniatures, the are recorded with high speed cameras, and then played back in slowmo. this way all elements (like smoke for example) will move slower and appear to have more inertia, making it look more like a real scale thing

also, love your work man!! I've been following for a few years now and absolutely love seeing you work!

Yeah I really how simple it is, it's actually pretty impressive how capable the program is... the only down side is when models get really large with lots of separate parts it tends to slow down a fair bit, but overall it's awesome 👌

Well done! There is nice hack for paint not leaking under the masking tape - just run over it with varnish first! That will seal it enough (varnish will leak under instead of paint, basically)

Great build and very interesting video! Altough 3D printing has taken over much of the modelling process, I think the upper walkway is something where photo etch still is the best option.

Manway safety cage looks very nice and seemed to print thee loops well being horizontal with the build plate. I wonder what the smallest rail that will print. Bein in N scale and some very detailed HO scale parts I would find those small rails were limited to size and very fragile. If you go back to some of my past videos. Mammoth Cement as a huge stack and I have been planning on putting a smoke unit in it for some time now.

I've been watching you almost from day 1 Luke. There is no argument about how talented you really are. But since you got your hands on the 3D printer and the ready-to-assemble kits, you have become more like the perfect assembler and less the inspired creator you used to be, the one who practically built everything from scratch. Of course I do acknowledge the fact that you are still creating, but it is with a mouse on Tinkercad, and not with your exceptional hands. I will still follow you and watch every video you upload, but it just doesn't feel the same. Of course this is my opinion and mine alone. Cheers mate, take care.
@willtreasure7029 Жыл бұрын
Making with a 3D printer is every bit the same as making using more traditional methods. It doesn't matter if he's using styrene sheets or CAD, he's still got incredible attention to detail, scale, life like models. Things are different now, but they're every bit as good.

@@willtreasure7029 This is your opinion. Mine tends to differ.
@johnphilippatos Жыл бұрын
@@bharanib.r8849 Actually I wouldn't mind whether he built a country scenic with cottages, barns, farms, stables etc., or a sci fi - post apocalyptic diorama, as long as he built it the way he did in his first videos. By hand. Thus they could be called "hand made". Now, hand made are only the blueprints in the C.A.D. The rest is more or less putting a machine do your work, and you just supervise the details.

Tinkercad tip: if you have multiple parts in a design, you can export STLs of each item separately by selecting the item you want to export - Tinkercad will ask if you want to export just the selected part(s) or everything.

I'm fairly confident the reason you keep having to redoing the your anti-warping trick is because you are trying to anneal the stresses out of the plastic and you are not getting to the inner plastic. I bet it would work better in a sous vide bath or a slow heat in hot sand before pressing.

I really wanted to see how this would be integrated into a railroad or other diorama. One thought I had is that I've seen many industrial complexes where the chimney/smoke stack sits next to a building and a large metal tube comes out of the side of the building carrying the smoke and waste gasses. The metal tube may be round, square, or rectangular. With that sort of design, the smoke generator could be in the building reducing the amount of space needed below the surface. And, of course, if you have a smoke stack you need some sort of industrial plant or generating plant to go with it.

My husband and I used to love watching your videos....when you scratch built most of your items, not 3d printed every single piece. now it's just a build your own puzzle. So many people don't have access to 3d printers and are disappointed that you never do any scratch built things anymore.
@RamoArt Жыл бұрын
I also enjoyed seeing things being scratch built, but I understand that it's incredibly time intensive and especially something like the large round stack is so much easier to 3d model and print. The old videos are still there so there's nothing lost. Those techniques still work the same as they did back then and whoever doesn't have a 3d printer can go back to learn how to scratch build.
