I love how the different techs work well together on this. Rayquaza ironically has the moveset of a great Rain team sweeper, with Thunder, Hurricane, and Hydro Pump. But of course it can't take advantage of that because of Air Lock. I never thought of Gravity as a work-around.

I literally tried to do a Meteor Beam + Rayquaza team a few weeks ago. Your solution makes so much more sense than Neutralizing Gas Wheezing with Rain Dance lol

your question on the quash interaction with thunderclap -- it comes down to speed. both are +1 prio. But the effect of quash means the pokemon goes absolutely last, regardless of prio. Because prio is a function of thunderclap, it would fail. BUT if the raging bolt is faster than the sableye, the quash would fail. and unless you're heavily invested in speed and the raging bolt has negative speed investment, sableye loses that prio matchup

I’m a new vgc player.. I’d love to just see a break down of what all you consider when making a team. It’s intimidating to try and build my own team with hundreds of Pokémon to pick from and hundreds of different match ups to face. I don’t even know where to start, I’m sure I’m not the only one!

I will try the team, but I am a little scared of Callyrex Ice and Mireidon. Does anyone have suggestions how to handle them? Caly: Burn and Tera I guess and then live with TR... - or add encore to sableye? Mireidon: Seems more complicated. A lot of them burn tera electric on first turn, but we have nothing to really punish that, right? Maybe squash to hit them before voltswitching but that will not win the game. Overall, I have the feeling that the team heavily relies on sableye, for gravity and speed control.

I now played a few games and think the team is really kind of weak against callyrex and trickroom in general. The only real option is squash, to hit them first (I often tried sleep), but I have problems keeping sableye alive long enough - requiring setup with gravity first. More experienced players use protect for one turn and remove sableye with hard hitters. I see no real answer in this team and thus it always comes down to a very risky coin flip if I think caly uses protect or wipes the field itself :/ Since I had also problems against tailwind, speed control in general might be the weak point of the team. I admit, that it might simply be my playstyle that does not fit the team, but I personally find it very hard to pilot Nevetheless, thank you burn, it was still fun to play :D

Quash, chiyu, and AV Rilla are my go-to options to try dealing with Caly, with Tera steel on Ray to try and catch the draining kiss if need be. Miraidon hasn't actually been too bad, since sash bundle becomes the fastest thing in e-terrain. Rilla in the back again to terrain war and punish miraidons who drop their dragon typing to soften the initial damage from bundle.

@@aarionsievo It's also not gonna be the most meta team obviously. There's a reason the same stuff gets used a lot -- it's better more consistently than stuff like this. Don't beat yourself up if it doesn't work!

“Meteor Beam” and “Can’t miss” are two phrases that don’t suit me. 90% accuracy, and it misses more than hits. I speak from experience. I am using a different team when I arrive at a local one day. Hopefully I don’t miss any moves.
