In the late 60's, My Aunt & Uncle lived on site and ran the gift shop, they sent postcards with great stories from visitors they met & daily chores they were responsible for.!

My parents took me to see Meteor Crater in 1964 when I was 12 years old. I was truly fascinated! 32 years later we made a return visit only this time, I took them. My parents are both gone now but when I travel back east next summer I'm planning on stopping again. Bittersweet memories this time but the crater still fascinates me.

At my age I'll never be going back to the US of A again but your excellent 'on the road' videos are a wonderful alternative to actually being there again. Yes, it's only Utube but an excellent way of seeing the South West again . It's much appreciated.

I was in the McDonald’s drive-through this morning and the young lady behind me leaned on her horn because I was taking too long to place my order. “Take the high road,” I thought to myself. So when I got to the first window I paid for her order along with my own. The cashier must have told her what I'd done, because as we moved up she leaned out her window and waved to me and mouthed "Thank you.", obviously embarrassed that I had repaid her rudeness with a kindness. When I got to the second window I showed them both receipts and took her food too. Now she has to go back to the end of the line start all over. Don't screw with us OLD PEOPLE. lol

My Mom ran the visitor's center and Dad was a cowboy for the Ranch that owns the crater. The ranch house is on the south side. As you turn off I 40 there is an old building Ninigner (sp) mesuem (hell I can' good today) t or at least was one where we lived. I was big enough to be walking so 3-4 years old. Don't know what they are calling it now, but I knew it as Niniger(sp) Crater. This would have been in the early 50s' When it was time for me to go to school we moved to Flagstaff. Back then all the cowboys carried a broom handle with a magnet wired to the end. When they would come across a burnt spot, they would scrub around to see if there were any meteor fragments on the surface. When Mom worked there only the small front building existed. I played on the hill side that the trail goes up. Me and my dog... Back then they would let people hike down to the bottom. This is also where the astronauts who went to the moon trained, along with a cinder field NE of Flag, where the had built a bunch of small moon like craters This was not mined, these were exploratory shafts trying to locate the meteor

Sadly we had to cut out snowbird trip short thanks to Covid 19, hoping to be able to head southwest again in October/November but right now things don't look good. We will miss the USA if we are not able to travel, wonderful country terrific people.

As a side note if and when you go back on the remnants of Rte. 66 opposite the RV park you can barely see some ruins at the top of the image. That is the old Ninninger Meteorite Museum. NN Ninninger was the father of US meteoritics and operated the museum until the Interstate took the traffic away from Rte. 66. Anyway a drone flight over the ruins would be interesting.

That was interesting, thanks from a non Rv'r. In the very early 90's I spent the night at the Grand Canyon from 2am till twilight and walking up to the edge was astounding even though it was mostly dark yet clear of its depth and then drove straight to Barringer Crater and it was still early morning. I walked in and the lights were off and not one person around or answered a hello call out, looked closely at the few iron/nickle meteorites then went outside to see it myself. It was very impressive and took a couple pictures with those disposable panographic cameras and left without seeing another person. More people should be aware of the Younger Dryas Impact Theory and realize that our world went through a very chaotic episode just 13,000 years ago.
