Meth and Alcohol enslaved me. 2 times in my life I hit rock bottom due to addiction. I ended up in jail and later in the hospital. I am a recovering addict. I learned what addiction is and why I never will use another mind-altering substance again. It is better to recover together. Join me on my journey to overcoming addiction and help others do the same. I quit and so can you!! Let's recover.

Let me know if you can connect with? I missed court for my third DWI, which I got while I was on probation for my second DWI. When I came to and realized what I had done I grabbed that bottle and drank for Oblivion I ended up in jail as a result. While there I had one of dem tings Ya know... An ummmm... Ep-pee-fanny Some say it all snotty like epiphany but what ev's I realized that alcohol and drugs put me in the shitty position I was dying a day at a time in. So, when I got released, and I have to say I wanted to be clean and sober. I wanted to act like a citizen But I lasted five miserable days Then I relapsed Then I got two or three weeks And .... You guessed it Did that for about 18 months. It was the most miserable time in my life And the Blackouts became much worse For instance I once got in a Van with what seemed to be very ordinary hippies after a Grateful Dead show at Merriweather post in Columbia MD.Somehow I managed to stay functional, even took turns driving the Van I came back to earth Midway through Space at Red Rocks in Colorado It was cold out and I was missing a shoe. And on top of it I had no idea where I was The only person from the Van was in worse shape than me Sha had no shoes and was apparently missing some of her marbles from her collection. I will admit that I was very entertained that several people when approached.. Hippy Chic would say " Hey man, have you seen my Marbles? I lost my Marbles, have you seen them. What would have been a touching moment were the number of people who stopped and checked their pockets to see if they misplaced them I did not receive the Heartbeat of altruism that theoretically surrounds all Dead Heads So, getting back to me for a bit I found the least gross payphone and set out to make a collect call( while tripping my balls off. Not knowing where I was. I sought clarity from one of my fellow concert goers. All I did was ask "Where are we?" To which he replied "Earth!" I actually believe the Blessed Virgin made the call for me because some a phone call was made and I got a bus trip from Colorado to Baltimore With only one shoe. And this shoe, believe it or not totally saved my ass All anyone asked me was "what happened to the other shoe?" I was admonished for not taking care of my feet My dad told some half assed story about cannibalism during the Korean War Then after everything settled down, Mother and I went out back and shot at a bunch of old vynil albums Pretty anticlimactic huh? Up until the Blessed Virgin intervening this was a true chapter out of the life of Steve

Well done!! The thing we have in common is you are somebody's son and I too have a son who is unfortunately not in recovery. Its been 20 heartbreaking years, my question to you is have you any advice on not enabling, and does it help to let go and let God ? It is hard being a parent I feel whatever I do is never the right thing x
@RecoveringAddict
@RecoveringAddict 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! And the best way I can describe not enabling is to let him feel the consequences of his decisions. When I was drinking, for example, If I passed out in the front yard and my wife brought me in the house and tucked me in, that would be enabling. If she left me in the front yard to wake up to the sprinklers hitting me I wake up and go into the house and see the family doing family stuff then I would experience the consequences of my actions. And feeling that helped me realize what I was doing was not good. I hope that helps.

If he gets close to my mom she can call the police and he would go back to jail again. so I want to offer him an option to go to a place right when he gets out. Any type of suggestion would be great so I can find him a place to stay when he gets out.
