I am 9 months clean from opiates. After years of being a functioning addict...the inevitable happened...I hit rock bottom ended up in jail, lost my car, lost my house, and had my kids taken...I went to rehab and this time after many failed attempts I stuck with it and within 9 months... I am back in college I have completed my AA degree, got my kids back, got a good professional job, got a car and I have a savings account again!!! It feels great to be able to own nice things again... and not have to pawn my things to get a fix!! Therapy is a key and a good support system! Never give up!

I been on methadone for about 16 months now and its def helped me get off opiates to the point that now I have 14 months clean and so does my girlfriend. We both went to rehab when our son was born and we went from being homeless (me 5 years , her 7 years) , no vehicle , stealing food from stores to living in an apartment , just bought a Kia Soul a couple days ago , she's taking college courses for cyber security , I'm looking for a job , our fridge and cupboards are full of food we paid for , and we take great care of our 15 month old son. All I know is that I never thought my life would turn around like it has and I'm so glad that we both are putting in the effort to get where we are and to further better our future and our son's also and without methadone I'm not sure how it would of been possible.

I was on Methadone for almost 7 years! It started out as just a back up plan! I was tired of being sick and a Methadone clinic was walking distance from my Englewood neighborhood! I was still using the first year I was on Methadone! Went all the way up to 100 mgs tryna get faded, but ended up staying at 90! Figured, it'd help me in the long run! For a while it was my little safety net! I would get all the way down to like 8 mgs and just stay there for a while! Cause, I was low-key scared to get off it completely! I'd heard too many horror stories! Eventually, I tapered all the way off! And, that shit was harder to kick than all the opiates I was doing put together lbvs! Will be 3 years off the liquid handcuffs on June 16th! One day at a time! 💯

I’ve been on Methadone since 2006 😳 My addiction stems from self medicating my social anxiety (people seem to love me, but I don’t love myself). That’s part of the reason I’ve been on it for so long (fear keeps me stuck & isolated). I work a regular job & all that, I’d much rather be in the clinic than in active addiction (no question). I have insurance, but they will get you on Medicaid if you’re broke, & treatment is basically free 💟
@jamiexx13213 ай бұрын
I am so happy for you but treatment is definitely not always free. Someone close to me has insurance that doesn’t cover methadone has to pay out of pocket 18 a day. Some people don’t qualify for Medicare/Medicare or state insurance. It’s sickening honestly. The clinic kicked them off because he couldn’t keep up with the payments.

This looks crazy, I can’t wait to see it. Yeah, I hate when people say “ *just stop* using.” As if addicts could *just stop*. It physically changes the chemistry of your brain. Nobody wakes up one day like, “I know what I want to be! A dope addict!” It’s a long journey that most times starts out with an actual prescription from a doctor, one whom doesn’t explain to the patient what happens once they cut that prescription off and that withdrawal feels like you’re literally dying, while your skin crawls and you’re vomiting and shitting on yourself and feeling like your soul is climbing out through your pores…. From an innocent Rx to RiP is the sad destination for those on every block like this. I’m from Philly, and Kensington is like that. It looks like actual zombies. Canada has evidence that proves safe clinics for those chronically addicted where multiple rehabs haven’t worked, where users and get clean kits and needles (which stops spread of disease) and in some they even get pharmaceutical grade dope ( you know it’s dope, it’s not cut with something you’re unaware of like in the street). And clinics like that actually cut DOWN on the people’s tax dollars being spent on ambulances, food and shelter, and the crime rate goes way down because if chronic users aren’t worried about how they’re going to get money to get their fix (like stealing, robbing using violence, or prostitution ), then they can actually spend their day and time to begin their journey on rehabilitation and the entering society by getting jobs since they won’t be sick, going to doctors appointments and finding housing which is done by counselors helping with resources (usually mandated stipulations to coming in those clinics). For the community as a whole it’s a safer and cheaper option than hospital or jail. And NO, those clinics do NOT encourage drug use. If you put a needle of dope in the center of a room full of people who have never used before- the likelihood of anyone picking it up and trying it is probably zero. It’s meant for a safer society for all, drugs don’t discriminate!

You can just stop and I am living proof of it. The thing is…people with this victim mentality buy into their own sob story bullshit and use it as a crutch. Just bare down on the pain and discomfort and white knuckle it until you’re on the other side. Miles Davis locked himself in a cabin to kick heroin… it’s very possible. Stop perpetuating these lies. It reinforces the sickness

That's sure is some great liberal rhetoric you spew but as a Canadian myself I can assure you these lax policies when it comes to the addiction sector is not working. Death infections and use are all on the rise and giving out free smack and needles is not the answer. I'm sure nobody signs up to be a street junkie but there is a point where you have to know using drugs is bad especially IV drugs, and yes you definitely made a choice at that point so let's not kid ourselves anymore. Because of these lax policies Vancouver is turning into Philadelphia so stop trying to justify nonsense.
@Rahim19693 ай бұрын
It's a life choice that you let slip away it isn't a disease it isn't a wound its a self inflicted addiction. Of course it alters your brain but you should have used one in the first place and never started. We don't need to clean up your mess, YOU DO, Addicts want to blame everyone but themselves and want all the help with zero effort from them. My Brother died because he was too weak to handle his problems and I loved him but I could not fix him, he had to want to stop and want to get clean and he didn't. I tried and the last words I spoke to my brother was "I love you talk to you later". That night he died and there was nothing we could do. I won't allow the addictions of others ever affect me again. I can't be your savior you have to be your own. Also I was born and raised in Philly in Kensington at Lehigh and Collins, Kensington avenue always had its share of addictions from needle point park or what is actually named McPhearson Sqaure where a once great Library was and then became a junkie paradise, to Kensington and Somerset and all the Huffers back in the day. This is nothing new destroy our neighborhood with the trash of society. I give them no safe haven and no quarter at some point you need to except some people will never get help and as long as these drugs flood our streets this will always be the case.

@@Rahim1969 im glad someone else said it. the whole "its a disease" argument is a fucking cop-out. Yes there are people that get hooked on prescribed meds, but I easily know more people who just started bc they were chasing a high and partying. disease my ass. you arent born with a condition that says you will inherently do heroine or meth without any way to control your decisions. there are a ton of people that have addictive personality traits but that doesnt mean they go out and try hardcore drugs. everyone these days knows the outcome of living that lifestyle. its rampant. everyone knows someone who is effected by this yet they still choose to go down that path. have some fucking accountability. to the minority who actually got hooked from prescribed meds, i hope you find solace and get clean and turn your life around. to the rest of them, you made your bed. stop expecting everyone else to lay in it with you. shit is exhausting. they didnt make the choice to end up on the streets, homeless, with a raging addiction, but they made the choice to get high. GTFO of here with that mess...
