Thanks for posting this. This has been one of my favorite songs since I first heard it on Follow That Road,a folk music compilation, sung by the songwriter, Bob Franke. It's an amazing song, religious without being preachy and hopeful in unhopeful times. It would have been a good song to perform at Obamas inauguration. Love the autoharp.

I sang this song all the time growing up. I sang it when I was scared. I'd forgotten a lot of the words.... until he started to sing. :')

I found myself singing this refrain when I woke in New York the morning after Hurricane Sandy and sun was shining through my window.

This was my favorite song when I was little, and I rediscovered it today and have been listening to it over and over. Truly amazing. I also had the opportunity to see Barachois for a final time at the me&thee coffeehouse a few years ago. Thanks for reminding me of some great memories!

This was the song that introduced me to John McCutcheon at the Jonesborough Storytelling Festival a number of years ago. I cornered John and told him what he sang was a tremendously beautiful song that he had written -- he admitted forgetting to credit Bob Franke, but as far as I'm concerned, this is, to me, John's signature song. It never fails to affect me deeply.

What a fabulous Clip! Thanks! I am sure it captures some of the warmth and excitement of the Night. Pity "M&T" is so far from the UK - your List is stupendous! Bob Franke - what can one add? John really "gets hold" of this one, and elevates both himself and the audience. [Tyneside, England.]

I love the song, but sadly, doubt that the storm will ever really be over... Happy Holidays, Wishing for Peace on Earth! 12.21.14

words and music by Bob Franke The thunder and lightning gave voice to the night, The little lame child cried aloud in her fright, Hush little baby, a story I'll tell, Of a love that has conquered the powers of hell. CHORUS: Alleluia, the great storm is over, Lift up your wings and fly! Alleluia, the great storm is over, Lift up your wings and fly! Sweetness in the air and justice on the wind Laughter in the house where the mourners have been The deaf shall have music, the blind have new eyes The standards of death taken down by surprise. Release for the captives, an end to the wars New streams in the desert, new hope for the poor, The little lame children will dance as they sing, And play with the bears and the lions in spring. Hush little baby, let go of your fear, The lord loves his own and your mother is here, The child fell asleep as the lantern did burn, The mother sang on 'til her bridegroom's return.
