This is the best DIY video I have ever seen. Excellent teacher! FYI, instead of using cotton, my husband had a big box of little 2” joining dowels which were perfect for holding the knot in place. Can be used again and again. Just thought I’d share. Thank you for your wonderful instruction.

I just wanted to say thank you for having such an amazing channel. I’m a self taught interior decorator ( with an art history background) and I have never upholstered furniture myself. EVER. During the Covid pandemic, I made a niche de chien for my bichon frise, dog, Lola. Niche de chien became very popular at Versailles during the reign of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. Marie Antoinette loved dogs so much that she had Jean-Baptiste-Claude Sené, her furniture maker, make several for her beloved dogs. These beautiful little dog palaces became quite popular amongst the royal courts in France and amongst the nobility at the time for their pampered pooches and were very much in fashion. They were made to match the beautiful interiors of that time period. I was so inspired by this idea and started on my project after some careful planning. I made it from an old night stand - took out the drawers, chalk painted it, gold foiled the trim, sewed tiny velvet pillows with her name embroidered on one of the tiny pillows . I used velvet fabric to sew a bed cover that would lay inside, added 2 rows of tiny black and white marble tiles to the exterior step to create a checkerboard effect ( very Alice in Wonderland-like), added gold colored brass LouisXVI handles on the sides ( for lifting since its quite heavy ) from which I have a tassel hanging from each handle . The table top front I drilled in 2 acanthus leaves finials to add more character to the piece. I knew I wanted to add a tiny dollhouse chandelier to the interior ceiling of her little palace, so I covered the ceiling with a beautiful wallpaper, installed the tiny chandelier, when I realized that I didn’t want to cover the interior walls with wallpaper as planned. Only the ceiling. I didn’t want my baby bumping or laying her head against the hard walls while sleeping or resting in her bed. I had some beautiful dusty blue and cream colored stripped taffeta fabric leftover from the drapes and fabric covered cornices I had made, and decided I wanted to use that fabric to line the interior walls. I have always known that diamond tufting is a meticulous style of upholstery , very expensive, BUT IS very beautiful and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. So I challenged myself, but I had just enough fabric to make 3 small panels that would go inside and cover the walls but that also had to be removable ( to clean and vacuum bc overtime I didn’t want dust accumulating inside. I watched many videos on KZbin on diamond tufting and none of them were meeting my art historian ‘research standards’!!! Until I came across your channel and found your video on diamond button tufting from a few years ago ( not this video but a previous video). I watched it several times took notes , and followed your detailed instructions and tips and got to work. When I was finished, I was very proud with the results and not to be boastful, but my dog’s little bed palace cubby is truly a work of art . I worked on it for a couple of months and I get so many compliments on it,especially on the interior. It’s a very detailed , beautiful, custom made, and very comfortable little luxury for my beloved sweet dog that she loves so much to sleep in, and I just want you to know how much I appreciate your videos. I truly would have never been able to finish my project had it not been for your diamond tufting video and I teaching myself the art of upholstery via your channel. Thank you so much & God Bless❤❤

A woman after my own heart! My little guy only has a doggy bed, but made with a Brunschwig & Fils Grospoint that goes with my living room colorway. Incidentally, I've only ever seen a Jean Baptiste Claude Sene 'taboret" or bench available for $12k, I can only imagine what a niche de chien would go for if you could find one at auction. It looks like a figure 8 knot done around a second line, in which case the mnemonic I learned is "Make a guy (the loop around your finger), give him a tie (cross over the tops of the lines and then under the lines), and poke him in the eye (pass the end through the loop you made)."

I just want to come back to say thank you so much for providing this resource. I have finally finished reupholstering my late father's piano bench with your help. It is not perfect as it is my first time attempting anything like this, but I just went slowly and re-did almost all of the steps over and over to get it to a finished state that I am happy to have and use in my home. It looks exactly as I imagined it. I had to attach it to a wooden frame rather than make it then attach due to the unique shape of the bench but I found a way! You helped me find the confidence.

You can place a piece of ply board underneath your foam before you cut to protect your table surface

My one question is that when measuring the fabric dimensions that will be needed, Cynthia used the term “handles” (Part 2 approx 27 mins into the video) Is this the thickness of the boxing? I think what she meant is the part of the fabric where you are going to handle/pull while stapling the edge.

If I’m covering a bench that has a slight curve, should the straight of grain follow the center line of the bench? In other words, curving the fabric to match the bench.

It would be much easier if you make a template on a piece of cardboard instead of using a ruler which is time consuming
